Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Actually met, I looked it up and it looks like Macs run windows through OSX, meaning it probably would not affect your entire system. The downside though is that Windows would probably be slower than if you were to run it on its own, since you are running two OS's at the same time and using RAM for both.

Well that defeats the point.

I guess I will continue my PC usage, then.

Agreed. I know 2014ers (not us really) had some questions last year about AMCAS, but were there this many? And this many of such a trivial/pointless nature? These 2015ers need to learn how to make their own decisions and stop overthinking things. I'm doing my best to help answer questions, but my God. :bang:
part of me thinks that it's easier to say "wow that's a dumb, pointless question" now that we're done with the process

but then part of me also thinks that once one person asks a really silly question on that thread, that really opens the gates for everyone and anyone to ask any silly question that pops into their head.

$1350, but that includes the 3-year protection plan.

on the expensive side, yeah, but hassle free. one less thing to worry about in the next 4 years.

I want a mac! I don't have any real reasons other than it looks really cool. That's a bit pricey for coolness though.

Maybe since I've actually contributed some useful information in that thread (including some to repeated dumb questions) I can start being truthful and say "That is a dumb question, figure it out yourself because it isn't rocket science or even algebra."

This attitude is one of the reasons why I'm not a Mac fan.

Thanks folks! I'm headed to Case Western! It's been a freakin' long application cycle, but now it's over! 👍

That's a great place to be headed for your first acceptance. Or was Case just the place you decided on before you posted here? Either way, congrats.

I hate studying Biochem so much that I've moved on to Microbial Physiology, which I also hate.

Shush the talk about Macs. You don't want to attract too many people from the tech board.

I'm supposed to be. But I always goof off when I'm next to my computer.

I have a Animal Sci test tomorrow. Good ol' companion animal management.

Nice. I'm trying to study Biochem and Microbial Physiology. It's not going so well.

Good luck on your final. That's your blowoff class, isn't it?

Are you up studying for finals?

That's what I'm saying!

I mean, for anything but music production, graphic arts, or flow cytometry (other sciency things?) , I just don't see much of a reason to own any Apple product (though I'd probably pick up an Apple III for kicks if I could find one). If they were cheaper, I'd consider it...they do often run more smoothly than PCs. Probably due to homogeneity?

Edit: I meant Macs tend to run better than PCs. I was in no way referring to iPods. There are much better products on the market.

I agree with this whole thing. The reason why Apple is making so much money right now is because the general population doesn't realize this.

I do love my iPod, although I haven't tried anything else since I've had mine for the last 4 years.

:barf: for having two sci finals on the same day.

It is my blowoff class, but for some reason it's the class that I have to make the highest grade on the final to keep an A.

Oh, I'm 85%-90% positive I'm going to move into those 930 Poydras apartments. I might go this weekend and fill out the application.

👍 Someone's gotta do it, and that someone is not going to be me since I don't remember anything.

😳 I don't know much about computers so something has to appeal to me.

Apple makes it tough to own any other MP3 player. This goes quintuple for anyone with a Mac. I still rock a tiny SanDisk Sansa Clip, but the radio in my region is alright 🙂 If someone can suggest an MP3 player with a working AM radio, I'd consider picking one up.

FWIW, it's not like Apple is first or only company to sell their products *mostly* based off name, status, coolness factor.

There's a reason why Coach and Louis Vitton purses and Alienware computers have a niche.

How are those places? Do they give med student discount? How is the guest parking? Is cable/internet included? How close are they to the med school? How expensive are they?

Sorry about all the questions, I just can't find much good info on the site.

Agreed. Apple was just really good at selling their products as indispensable fashion accessories, much like Louis Vitton and Coach. I'm not holding it against them, and I'd gladly pick up some AAPL on the next downturn (if I wasn't about to incur a >$200k debt ). I just don't see a need for Apple in my life.

To be fair, I technically haven't made any computer choices for next year. Maybe my mind will change? 😉

TBH, there's really nothing at this point that Macs do better than PCs in any area to warrant the extra cost. IMO.

I'm not sure I agree with this shirt.

They can match your iphone though aesthetically. You need to be matching. Plus then you can look fly while using all your apps.

I think I might just keep my old laptop for next year.

I was saying that until this year when my computer started falling apart. I would also like to take full advantage of the $2k I have to pay for my LSU computer, but apparently it's crappy and I shouldn't even bother putting any music on it. I know people who have it and say it has started crapping out in less than one year.

So it basically means that I should buy a new computer this summer even though I'm paying $2000 (who pays that much for a computer anymore?) for one in August. 😡

Apparently Pro Tools, Photoshop, and FlowJo all work for PCs these days. Man, my knowledge base is out of date 😱. Other than some of the maintenance free stuff, there's probably no reason to own a Mac.

Edit: I'm just happy to finally agree with JJ through and through 😛

I'm thinking the next MP3 player I get will be a Zune. I have an iPhone, so I have all of those apps. And I love the Zune interface much much more than Itunes.

Though, the Sansa players are great especially if you rockbox it.

Yeah, site sucks for information.

The place is okay. I'm choosing mostly based on location and it ends up being about the same cost as another place that I was considering. If I was planning on doing roommates, I probably would just consider a house or something in the Garden District. The rooms themselves aren't the biggest and they have a loft feeling as opposed to a homey feeling.

Anyway. The med school discount is if you sign a 14 month lease you get two months free in rent. I'm probably going to sign a June lease, so that if I need to move out next year or in a few years, I'm not tied to doing it in the middle of the school year.

Guest parking sucks. There's no designated guest parking. The building's parking garage is actually public parking for that area as well, so essentially your guests are paying to park.

Cable/internet not included. Water/Sewage/Trash is included in the rent.

They are a mile from the med school and a mile to the French quarter. So about a 15 minute walk.

There's two different 1 Bedrooms. The smallest 1 bedroom is ~$1035 /month. You also have to pay $160 /month if you want a space in garage. Like I said, the apartment themselves aren't amazing for the price.

Can't think of anything else to add unless you have a specific question.

Fine then. Looks like I should save my money and put it towards a non-mac + something else...like a vacation! I'm certainly going to need some of those next year.

That sums it up really well for me.

I'm going to stick with my plan to rent a place (preferably house or apartment in a house) in uptown near Tulane and Loyola. I would prefer a place as close to Audubon Park as possible, but I would settle for one near Maple St. Since I'm looking in such a small area, it's hard to find a place with 2 full bathrooms but I'll find one. I have some time.

Hah, my laptop has become unportable. My case cracked near the hinges and so the laptop screen won't stay up unless I prop it up.

I plan on trying to turn my laptop into a media center and just leave it hooked up to my TV for movies, music, and some web surfing.

After talking with my gf, we've decided to forego the Caribbean vacation and go to New York instead. It would just be easier and probably cheaper from the estimations. Plus this way allows for a potential weekend trip to the Atlantic coast.

I thought you replaced the hinges? Well mine is on its way to being unportable but since school is ending, it might be okay for the summer as long as I can fix the internal issues.

Lol, I did. but I was lazy and didn't replace one of the screws. So this made it everytime I opened up my laptop it put some stress on the case near the hinge and eventually it cracked.

If I had only put the screw back, I wouldn't have this problem.

mac's business model is fancy + different. it's the same model as sony computers. i mean, i seriously met a girl who says she loves the Vaios and paid like $500 extra just cause it looks good.

The V8 2010 camero is ~18k cheaper than the cheapest corvette.😕

I can't be the only one that thinks camero>corvette.

I'm more of a VW fan myself 😛

so I'm working from home today b/c i have a dr. appt at 1...decided to utilize my new 17.3" laptop because my work one is chugging SAS -- I CAN SEE 25 ROWS IN EXCEL!!! 😱😱😀😀. On my work machine, I usually see 15 or so.

really, it's the little things in life . I quit this B in 23 days!!!!

just got an email from amazon recommending i buy examkrackers 101 passages in verbal...bad memories!! amazon needs to realize that i never want to see an mcat test prep book again😛

 I don't like the new amazon thing where they recommend stuff to you. I just like to buy and then be left alone.
