Hahahaha So freaking good!!! I didn't think those could get any better🙂

swan dive into diamonds, babies crawling to stores to get Old Spice and becoming manly babies and the monocle smile are my favs 😀

What, you're going to hurt your knee tomorrow? Perhaps you should get an insurance policy today?

How did you hurt it? *no one is seeking medical advice*

Nah, I hurt it over a week ago, seems to be recovering well tho. Still, if I can get a free MRI(it's like 2 grand!!) I'd get one.

Seriously. South gets a bad rap. I've taken vacations to the real South (e.g., not FL), and people were nicer there than anywhere non-rural up north.

Hey now, many parts of FL can be pretty southern too, especially in north florida!

Yikes! I have a feeling my schedule is going to be pretty similar to that. :scared:

Yeah, I know! I started to write out this long post about how basically you're going to find mean people, bigots, racists, xenophobes, homophobes, idiots, etc. everywhere. It's definitely not limited to the South. Anyway, I decided it just wasn't worth it to start a flame war on SDN over it.

I thought our schedule would be better, only morning classes for most days. The south ain't that bad! Though I'll have to admit, I(and I'm sure sentinel too ) wish southern chicks would be a bit more open to dating guys of other races.

Being not-white, I totally agree with this. Although, I did have a hilarious moment in north carolina: I was driving my car, a bunch of red neck white kids in their truck pass by and yell out "yo [n-word] get the [f word] out of our state". I yelled back "I'm Indian you *****". Most hilarious racist moment ever. I'm not even close to looking black either

I've had firefighters in NYC start a fight with me and my friends thinking we were terrorist sympathizers (this was a little bit after 9/11). That was really funny because I'm a hindu, and hindus and muslims (if you want to say "all muslims are evil" like these firefighters) have been at each others throats for longer than America has existed.

Am I the only one who finds racism funny because, usually, it's completely stupid and makes no sense? And also preached by *****s? Anyway I digress - my point was - yea there's bigots in both north and south. Since the north tends to be more metropolitan and mixed, it seems like there's less here. But it's not actually true.

/facepalm

Dude, my best experience was when this hillbilly tried to pick a fight with me in school, his best insult was "remember Pearl Harbor?" I was like, wtf? First of all, I'm Chinese, and second of all, America got bombed at Pearl Harbor you dumb ****!

Bad mood + eventless afternoon = me calling up 4 businesses that I've had problems with in the past month, voicing my displeasure and getting compensated $400 for it.

I am standing up for the little guy who is angry but has too much to do to bother spending time on the phone with customer service! 😉

👍

also at least the 1st month of M1 classes since we do biochem, cell bio, and physio seems like a whole lot of review. The topics are all like neuromuscular junctions, stem cells, transport, protein synthesis and degradation, etc etc...i know its going into more depth in med school but still ive gone over that stuff soooooo much in undergrad since i majored in that, i wonder how much that is going to help? any thoughts yoda?
I think it helps quite a bit. There is a bigger focus on small details in med school, but if you have a strong background in it already it makes it pretty easy IMO.

rip george steinbrenner. even if you hated him, you had to love his character on seinfeld voiced by larry david

That's because they're the good guys 😀

yea well they end up losing in the expansion pack :meanie:

but man, they've got the ultimate every type of unit. they're the only ones with significant air power, their tanks can shoot down missiles and repair themselves, their infantry is one shot kill and stealth when not moving, and their long range bombardment can hit moving targets. pretty much invincible!

I am totally a southern 'chick' and I'm open to dating people of different races. 👍

i find that east coast people are the most racially cliquey and segregated because there's so many of their ethnic background

so i just got my 1st yr schedule and...im scared:scared:. It seems since we do anatomy right away + pbl, ill be in class from 9am-3pm or 9-4pm everyday...is this normal? or does my school just enjoy causing pain. It seems like i wont be leaving my house at all period for 1st year?

just for the hell of it i looked at the 2nd yr schedule and it was still like 9-3 everyday, though its class from 9-12 and then from 1-3 its pbl or preceptorships so its not as bad i suppose? still 1st year looks awful i can see why people say its the worst.

My first semester will pretty much be 8-3 everyday minus a couple of days. It gets lighter once anatomy is over in the spring, I think it's like 8-12 or 1.

ugh, you never realize how much stuff you have til you try and pack it all! i've been at it all morning and i think i'm almost done, just going through bathroom and random things now. i hate moving!!

I know. I hate moving, too. Speaking of which, I have to go to Baton Rouge to finish cleaning out my apartment tomorrow.

I just painted my toes and one of my toenails just like fell off from when I dropped something on my foot. Now the nail polish draws attention to it. My feet look funny. 🙁

You can paint your flesh too 😀

Think of the positives man, that's way, way better than not getting in this year! I remember last year when it was setting in that I wasn't getting in anywhere. I went to UF's admissions office one last time, the office lady was checking her email and she was like "whoa, I think an incoming M1 just died from a motorcycle accident!" and my first thought was "does that mean 1 spot just opened up?" 🙁 It was actually the M1's brother, but the point is, if you hadn't gotten in anywhere it woulda screwed with your psyche much, much more!

We going to med school, *****es!

It's a stupid prestige deal that's stuck around since college applications when I got rejected from a bunch of prestigious schools in the same week and only got into my state school. Felt the need to prove myself ever since, and now people don't get it when they ask where I'm going. I used to say, "Well, Loyola or UChicago if I get off the WL." Then they'd always tell me how that'd be awesome if I got off. For the last month I've left off that last part and I always get the response, "Oh, nice so you'll be close to home?" :smack: Then again, maybe it's all in my head.

i think thats it. you'll be happy wherever you end up. med school seems like a place where there's always something to worry about (if you want to)

I know exactly how you feel, minus the college apps b/c I only applied to 2 places. I dealt with this stuff about two and a half months ago, so it's nice to be on the other side and you'll get there soon. It's waaaay better after you deal with it, trust me.

Coincidentally, I was officially rejected from Baylor today. My cycle is now 149% officially over (even though it has been for a while) with my last real rejection.

BBender, I don't know you at all, and you don't know me, so you of course have permission to totally ignore what I'm going to say🙂

The human brain is jacked up; when you're on a game show, and the dude in the box offers you $180,000, and you pass it up so that you can choose a few more suitcases, and then, next time, due to the choices you made, you get an offer of $90,000, you feel like you just lost 90k, even though you didn't really.

It is AMAZING that you got into medical school somewhere. It is ok for you to be disappointed that you didn't get in somewhere else, and even mourn the loss of it for awhile. But just know that when you go to school the first day, you are taking another step toward being a doctor.

All people are not created equal. We aren't all given the same tools. But you WERE given the tools to make it this far, and not only were you given the tools but you took advantage of every damn one of them. Because there is no way you can get this far without a lot of sweat, sacrifice, sleeplessness, and pride swallowing.

You're smart and no matter what anyone else says, you are already successful. Anyone who says differently can suck it. Seriously. They. Can. Suck. It. It may take a few years of repeating this to yourself daily to believe it, but it is possible to get there🙂 Let this fuel you to totally murder everything that is put in front of you and be even more successful than you thought you could be.

Oh, also....dude, congrats on getting into medical school🙂

I'm sorry, Met. As crazy as it sounds, maybe the best thing for me could be a swift rejection because then maybe I'd be able to move on.

I'm actually very happy about the rejection now. Rejection is a great thing if it lets you move on with your life.

Pritzker needs to either accept you or reject you tomorrow!
