Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I did pretty much nothing today other than go to church. So nice to decompress for a day. Although this week is going to be a stressful, heinous, beast.

JEEZ. It feels like I'm almost always the last comment on a page!

of course, this isn't true for the last couple pages. XD

Oh goodness. Went on a float trip with some of my classmates and some other med students. Who knew drunkenly floating down a river/get beat up by rocks/getting sunburned could be so fun? Now, I have a month to recover before the M1 float trip.

YO GUYs! (and girls)

hah so good practice eh? That does sound like a lot of fun though

for med school, you guys think a laptop is really necesary or maybe better to go the netbook+ desktop combo. I have a macbook i bought about 4 years ago now, it runs perfect and just for notes, i-net, and other crap it works fine (in other words everything i would need for med school). The only cons to my current laptop is that the battery life isnt too great (3 hrs) but i guess with it being so old its to be expected.

I kinda was thinking desktop because its easily upgradable, and while i dont play a lot of games i do some...and id like to be able to at least run things like sc2, or civ5. An upgraded new laptop just seems kinda useless for med school since you are given a ton of typed out syllabi and notes that cover everything as well as i can print all the powerpoints myself.

netbooks tend to be able to handle most of the jobs you do on a daily basis on a laptop. So if you are ok w/ a dtop, it's almost always more economical to do netbook + dtop. Or in your case, you could just get a new battery 🙂 Then again, I don't know if macbook batteries are user-replaceable?

I was hoping for a tablet/slate pc that was as small as a netbook so i can actually take notes and not carry around my regular laptop-sized tablet... but no luck with that yet 🙁

just check if your school tests you on your laptop (then they would probably have a specific requirement anyway). i live in a house with a 10+ upperclass med students and computers arent a big deal over here.

I don't think a laptop is necessary. The portability is useful at times which is why I have one, but 95% of the time I use mine like a desktop (plugged in at my desk).

hi guys! so moving up 3 flights of stairs=death. i love my apt though🙂 how's everyone else doing? anything exciting happening?

I would personally not be able to survive without one. I have it in class, and take it with me all the time when I go to study at school. I suppose it could be done, but I definitely use my laptop all the time.

nah i heard about it though. lol, i gotta start supporting this team. phils are crumbling (as is my yahoo team)

yea, you will get used to it within a week though. its just the initial move in

oh ya i'm sure. it was totally fine walking up empty handed, but when you're carrying boxes, mattress, tv, etc it's a totally different story😛

yea.. my apt's going to be on the third floor too. No elevator. This is going to be fun...

yea but less likely chance of having roaches, at least thats what you will tell yourself. but even my friends really nice apartment in center city on the 6th floor had pseudo palmetto bugs and even mice

yea, pests. Yayyy.

Hey BB - you know any good maids/maid services in the philly area? We'll need help keeping our place clean... (by which I mean I don't trust myself or my roommates to do a good enough job of keeping said place clean)

hmm, no i wouldnt know of any but i would ask some of the undergraduate or professional fraternity. they would know them pretty well

My apartment is on the 4th floor and I still hate the stairs.

I just accidentally took a 3 hour nap and had a dream that my place was infested with roaches. It was super vivid and really gross.

Naps are awesome! In other news, outpatient gyn isn't as exciting as ob but is much more relaxing! I'm getting better with speculi.

naps are definitely 👍

And I have no idea what a speculi is 😕

a speculum is what the gyno sticks up a lady to get a view of her lady bits

I kinda guessed that's probably what it is... but I usually guess stuff wrong so I figure I'd not assume 😀

Man, I got the starcraft 2 beta invite today... and I found out today was the last day for the beta! At least I got in like 8 or so games... so that's good. Anyway to crack the thing so I can at least play against the computer AI while I wait for it to release?

u should ask stein, he knows all about sc2

Man, housing in Baton rouge is kinda expensive, a decent 2 br apt goes for like 800 here ~_~

mayo started today. another school underway!

what up people.

what would you like to know?

I'm especially interested in how they like the activities list to be formatted. On AMCAS I did more of a resume-style bullet point list. For some reason I am feeling like they maybe want more of a description and why this activity meant something to me? But I can't tell based on how the section is worded.

I made mine like a resume with bullet points and sentences of description under the bullet points. Other people did different things. I got an interview (but withdrew) so I'm sure it worked.

I feel like what drizzt did is definitely the best way to list it for most schools. Makes it seem professional... and really easy to read 😀

also - :hello: cougar

:hello:Sentinel😉

You guys need to keep me awake for another 15 minutes. I'm drooping.

What happens in 15 minutes?

Also, aren't you supposed to basically ward away all forms of drooping just by being in the general vicinity? Isn't that like the prime directive for all cougars?
