Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just curious. . .

Who has already taken the MCAT & who is a senior planing to take a year off?

I took the MCAT last summer and I'm currently a senior. Seasons greetings, happy holidays!

I took the MCAT this past June (the 18th at 2pm) and I'm currently a junior.

Also, hopefully we'll keep the thread up more as the season gets closer. I already have a short version of my PS from a guaranteed acceptance program I applied to, but I have a lot of editing to do. I may just take dw up on that offer...

Seasons greetings to the 2015ers from a 2014er! 🙂

Have you taken any of the practice tests yet?

yeah, i've taken 2 so far - i'm just using AAMC and kaplan tests. I'm looking EVERYWHERE for an answer to this:

Does anyone here know the difficulty level of the real mcat verbal passages? Is it similar to the EK101 passages or to the Kaplan passages? The kaplan passages are like a nightmare to get through, but pretty straightforward questions, while the EK101 passages are okay, with tricky questions.

The REAL MCAT will be like the AAMC tests, but longer passages, with questions/difficulty similar to AAMC/EK101 (average the two).

Out of all the practice tests I took, I personally felt like the AAMC practice tests were most representative of the real deal (in every section). Kaplan was much more complicated than the MCAT, and I felt like those practice tests didn't really do much to help prepare me for actual test. I cannot testify to EK101 because I did not use them in my preparation.

Damn, that's really early, good job!

any tips from you guys for last month of prep? i'm taking in jan

Haha yeah - I really wanted to minimize the stress over the application season and I'd already finished the prereqs. Turned out well for me.

In terms of prep, I would definitely recommend that you finish up your review if you haven't already, and then focus on taking the AAMC practice tests. I usually took one test, followed it up with a day or so of reviewing concepts that I wasn't as strong on. Then lather, rinse, repeat until test time. The day before the test I had a complete mental block and couldn't study at all.

Class of 2015!

BTW, dunno if you've read this elsewhere, but I found REAL Orgo to be way harder an way different from AAMC Orgo. Know your organic, don't just learn what's on the PTests!!

good to know, this is my big weakness, thanks for the heads up

Yup, yup. Verbal on AAMC tests is most like the real thing, which makes sense. I hate Kaplan. Their verbal section tests were the only verbal material I had (along with AAMC), so it might have helped me...maybe...actually no, probably not. Their question stems are too long and wordy, and way too detail-oriented. Don't know anything about EK verbal.

Knowing your organic will definitely pay off! People dread organic on the MCAT, but I wished there was more. It's pretty straight forward on the MCAT, I think. The passages are mostly made up of mechanisms and like tables with bp's or something, so less reading=🙂.

ahhhh coming home to the cold darkness that is toronto from bahamas tonight. just realized there is internet in the lobby of the resort lol. probably a good thing i didnt know tho!

Got some ******ed stories to tell :laugh::laugh:

EDIT: study hard for you mcats!! verbal test a day. DOOOOO ITTTTT

Yay! Finally home after 10 days of house sitting. Got my grades for this semester, all A's. I started volunteering in public health and am at H1N1 clinics. I'm really worried about the MCAT. I just feel that no matter how hard I study, I won't do as well as I hope.

i've actually started putting together a list of schools to apply to.
So far Jefferson is really standing out as a top pick for me.
Location looks great and its Canadian friendly 🙂

what about u guys??? any ideas???

it's so hard to narrow it down! I have a list of ~25 schools, but I don't want to apply to more than 12ish

Hello everyone, just thought I'd pop in again. Don't worry about selecting schools. Choose based on their stats and location. That's what I did.

obviously everyone should apply to only harvard, because it's the best school, because everyone says so.

When I came up with my list, I created a spreadsheet to compare schools and gave them scores based on several criteria (i.e., tuition, ranking, location, support system, OOS friendliness, etc.). That chart really helped me narrow down my list of schools.

You also might want to consider how many schools you want to/can afford to apply. Each primary sent is ~$30 and each secondary ranges from ~$75-100.

I wouldn't worry too much about making this list however until you receive your MCAT scores. Also, take a look at the LizzyM spreadsheet. While it's not perfect, it will give you some insight at which schools you will be competitive.

with numbers like mine im gonna wait for harvard to apply to me

Its about time!! WE ARE GOING TO SHINE BRIGHT!!
i have faith in all of you guys!

Just stopping in to say hi to all you fellow c/o 2015ers! Good luck to anyone that's still got to take the MCAT. I'm about to start writing my personal statement (only because our school forces us to).

Jefferson is a great place! It's technically my state school and I know people there. I had the opportunity to visit and it's in a great area and has pretty cool facilities. 🙂

I have a long, long list right now that needs to be cut in half. I'm hoping for 10-15 schools, but I have some pretty specific things that I'm looking for so I'm researching the schools pretty heavily.

Hi guys! I can't believe that I can finally post on a "Class of" thread! It is really starting to sink in...:scared:

EDIT: ^^^^ you'll b fine kirbz (yes i called u kirbz)

Question:

Can a guy and a girl be best friends for years and years without being "attracted" to eachother???

Given the fact that one is not way better looking than the other.

Heard Temple was a state school, got in there. CA resident here. So I guess you're right.

God, I am so happy to be done with this ****.

Hopefully, you can stand the year of application process, the demoralization along the way, and the mental breakdowns.

You'lll never forget this year.
