You shouldn't post gay porn on SDN...

11/12/12 on AAMC #9. I'm kinda disappointed in the PS score since I pulled a 15 on #6 last weekend, but the composite is 35, which is my goal, so overall I'm pretty pleased. 🙂 I feel like more than half of my mistakes on the science sections are stupid test-taking mistakes like misreading the question that I'm getting better at, and hopefully won't do when I'm actually at the test site and sans home distractions. 6 more days. Shiiiiiiiiz.

if you are pulling this before a test i mean seriously no need to worry. Many score higher then their pre test scores and you seem to be doing solid. You are probably well on your way to a 40 and a upenn acceptance 😉

I went grocery shopping yesterday and bought milk. I can get back to my nightly oatmeal routine!

Thanks man, I hope so! 🙂

you are pacing well. You are primed for 35+ 👍

btw, this cracks me up... are you really putting this on your app?

- Group leader in 2 successful groups in an MMORPG for about 3 years. Also coordinated/ran countless raids/trials/task forces in the 5 years I have played. I was told this was legitimate leadership experience. *Thumbs up*.

tip of the hat if you are 😀

I always feel weird responding to banned users... I feel like I'm holding a seance.

I very well may. It'll be down by the bottom, though. I may just put it as a hobby/interest and if it comes up in interviews, I'll put the leadership spin on it, but LizzyM DID say it was legit leadership.

Might be interesting. I know someone who wrote about their time with their pet turtle and was accepted so who knows lol. Personally I wouldn't put that and would only mention it in interviews wen asked about hobbies and such. But either way probably won't matter. Btw what game was it I'm curious🙂. I have only played one mmorpg in my life and it took up way to much of my time. That **** is addicting lol. I wasted much of high school on it😛

It sounds like you already got advice on this that you liked, but 2 things come to mind. First, if you have any area of your app that you are somewhat deficient in (volunteer work, research, etc) then it will be hard to say you were busy with classes/kid and had no time, b/c the interviewer may look at your lengthy online play and ask why you didn't use that time for something else. Second, leadership is necessary b/c right out of med school you will be in leading a medical team of nurses, techs, cna, etc and you will need strong people skills face to face. Whether or not online leadership will help in that regard may be questionable to some people.

These are good points geek. Like I said I would not use this in an app bvideo games have bad connotations and most will see it as a waste of time in which you could have done something better. Like volunteer etc etc

Good points. Like I said, I think I'll probably just put it as a hobby and if it comes up in interviews I'll talk about it. I have a little bit of everything else on my app. I was a TA for a semester, a volunteer assistant director kinda thing at my old high school for a semester. I h (stage combat class), have other volunteering/community service, a semester of research, and an metric crapton of clinical experience. I also have the plays I did in college and some other things.

Now that I think about it, I might not have space for it. They only give you 15 spots, right?

And Rhino, it was (still kinda is, but to a MUCH lesser extent) City of Heroes/City of Villains. I did most of my playing in college when I was a theatre major. I haven't played nearly as much in the last few years since working towards medical school, getting married and having the Chicklet. The groups I ran were like 2005-2007.

If your app is strong in all other areas then it shouldn't hurt to include. I was just mentioning it incase you hadn't thought about those things. I think showing adcomms you know how to relax might actually be beneficial. With your theater background maybe you could spin it as part of exploring another career path (like developing, writing, designing these types of games). I know carnegie melon has a multi-disciplinary graduate program and one of the undergrad majors they recruit from is theater (b/c these games have a huge story/art element that is combined with computer programing).

That is freaking cool, and VERY true. The hubs and I are a big fan of RPGs with a great story. We pretty much buy anything Bioware churns out. Hubs would be the one to go into game design, though. I think he'd be fantastic.

And, as I'm sure you already know, BioWare was founded by MD's, although I don't believe they're licensed/practicing anymore. Mass Effect/ Jade Empire/ but especially KOTOR are all great games.

In sad news, my Xbox died last night. I'm trying to decide if I want to buy a new Xbox "Arcade" (basic xbox w/ controller) for ~180 total and just slip on my old, small HDD, or if I want to buy a 360 Elite Bundle for ~270 total including HDD transfer cable. (Gonna resell Forza 3 since I already own it and keep ODST if I go that route)

The couple that plays together, stays together! That's what we always say. 😀

I didn't get far through Dragon Age (I couldn't decide which character to play through first!). I got it for the hubs for Christmas so I gave him first crack at it, and then I started studying for the MCAT and swore it off. I'm going to play through it starting after the MCAT and through the summer. I know I'm going to finish through ME and ME2 again, too.

I remember reading that before! NWN and Dragon Age are awesome, too. Did you know they're making a KOTOR MMO? The teaser rocks!

Haven't played Dragon Age yet (blame this academic year lol) and forgot about NWN!

That looks pretty awesome, but I was hoping for some gameplay footage, although the story looks pretty sweet!!!

just got back from the rehabilitation hospital for my grandmother post op, shes doing well after hip surg. now eating a turkey sandwich and laughing at this thread: Doctor shortage: A nurse may soon be your doctor

I can't even look at those threads. I'm sure my eyes would roll clear out of my head.

I'm glad you're grandmom's doing better! Did she have a replacement? My mother in law had her hip done in July, and my father in law had a knee done earlier this month. He needs the other knee done in a few months, and she needs one of her knees done, too (on the other side from the replaced hip).

Brewing up some Dunkin' Doughnuts coffee to go with my "fund raiser" box of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. A dozen doughnuts + supporting the local high school football team to afford equipment = awesome 👍

That box is gonna get it when my coffe is done! mmmmmm...

Hey, guys. Writing a paper that's due tomorrow (oops) and studying for finals. I went to my friend's baby shower...her high school aged sister is also pregnant. I felt weird there.

My two former next door neighbor girls had their kids at 14 and 16. One claimed she didn't even know she was pregnant until her water broke. Sketchy.

Most useful thing I've ever learned: How to fall/roll/dive-roll properly.

I would have felt weird, too, Arti! What did you wind up getting her?

Haha, I felt weird because I knew NO ONE but her and her parents there. I've been friends with her for 15 years, back when we both lived in WV. Then I moved to FL, and like 3 years later, her family moved to FL, but a little north of me, so she had a whole bunch of friends there. She's like "Come on, converse with people!" and I'm thinking "I don't know anyone here", it was weird.

But I got her diapers, a foam float thing to bathe her baby on, a little outfit with a monkey on it, a baby health kit, safe wipes, baby shampoo, and baby oil.

Solid. 👍

Though, truth be told, the only thing I ever used baby oil for was cradle cap. Nastiness. But she'll be happy she has it if she needs it!

Haha, she asked for it so I got it

Sometimes I think LizzyM tries to be more "politically correct" than giving true advice. The medical field is extremely traditional, and many old-school docs unfortunately hold many stereotypes.

See, I think you ooze maturity all over your application - you seem to have a lot of leadership experience, other work experience, research, and on top of that you're raising a family, etc. I think this actually puts you several bounds and leaps ahead of a fresh college graduate. But putting your gaming experience on your app, many old school docs will consider video games to be a big part of your life, and your perceived maturity might be shot.

This is similar to listing an activity such as "alcohol consumption from age 21 to present at local bars." "This activity has taught me how to become very socially affluent, I'm very much at ease in conversational skills, and comfortable meeting new people."

Wait... what? I had that in volunteering non-clinical except it was from age 16. I though that had Harvard acceptance written all over it! 😛

WHAAAAT, I was successful clan leader in Counter-Strike, I shoulda put that!

Man, the truth is, you won't believe(well, you in particular might) how hard it is to manage a bunch of competitive teenagers over the internet. "OMG, WHY THE **** DIDNT YOU GUARD THAT SPOT, I QUIT!" "STOP ****ING BAITING ME, YOU #$!%@$#@$ !#$!@#$@#%^ &^%((%^ $#%@%"
