My transcript, which my email says was sent, has still not been received by AMCAS. I may not be able to submit on the first day like I wanted. But it's okay, first week should be fine.

BTW, do any schools want LORs as part of your primary? I should have them all by May 30, but if you have to wait after Interfolio sends 'em, that'll also take a while. Agh. Stressful process.

It takes a few days for the LOR to show up on amcas after sending from interfolio. I estimate ~2-3 days, but it seems like things are taking longer as they get backed up.

I'd also like to know if there are schools that require LOR with the primary.

Thanks bro, that is good to know. I decided to have my prof mail his letter direct to AMCAS with the small hope that it arrives by June 1st so I can submit with everything ready to go. I'll probably have to assign my letters after I submit, I figure it will take amcas ~ week to verify transcripts so the schools won't receive anything until that is done anyway.

Schools that screen for secondaries will require your lor with the primary. Schools like gtown and non screenng schools wouldn't care. However to be complete and to gain an interview lors are required
 
i hate my LOR writers. i almost regret asking them now. they are the slowest people i have ever met.

its not that hard to use a template you probably already have and add a few lines. i can probably do it all in 12 minutes, sealed and mailed

Hey Everyone,

you guys seem to be on top of it! Since I'm not taking my MCAT till July I won't be submitting till late june/early July. I have my PS done mostly but have to update it because I wrote it a few months ago... I also have to contact my letter writters because I have not talked to them for a while and should give them a deadline for when to have the letters in to me. Are you guys just having as many people as possible read over your PS? Anyone else with a later MCAT or retake? I feel like my first MCAT is going to bring me down even if I score well this next time around. I guess I will just have to call around and see what each school does with previous MCAT scores.

yeah i might be retaking, depending on my score.

as far as your first MCAT, it depends on the school. Some schools give you a secondary and some dont, it's school specific

Amen, but I'm just outside of Philadelphia. The school is in Manhattan. Not a trip I feel like making just to put some rejects in the registrar's office in their place.

What really amazes me is that it's NYU (there, I said it!). They HAVE a freakin' medical school. You'd think, maybe, that they'd understand why I'm getting pissed about this? Doesn't seem that way. And let me tell you, before the hubs got this new job, I probably would have been applying to NYU, among other schools in New York, and after this crap, if it were still on my list I would have cut it.

One of my LOR writer told me he cranked out a standard, easy one for one of my classmates, but was taking his time to really think for mine. I think that's a good thing. But I agree, this LOR writer has also taken 2 or 3 months... not cool.

I take July 8th. I am submitting mid-June.

I will have maybe 3 or 4 people read my PS. Need to finish that thing soon. I got 4 letters already, I gave them a packet with info and a clear deadline of June 1st.

I could also rant about the insultingly small scholarship they offered me fresh out of high school, and how, in retrospect, I should never have applied early decision and gone somewhere that would have given me the full ride I deserved, but I don't want to do that right now. 😉

Maybe their medical schools knows their arse from a hole in the ground, but I can't say the same for their undergraduate offices.

Oh, so when I called today, I got the guy I talked to the first time I called (several weeks after my first request for the transcript). He said it was mailed last Wednesday (the last time I called). I never got it. He said he had another copy in his hand and he was mailing it today, and to call again if I didn't have it by Tuesday.

I'd REALLY like to know where the other 3 copies of my transcript are, though. 😡

NYU undergrad is no better, dude. When I started there in 2002 (I only stayed the one semester, too), it was $41K a year with room and board. GTFO!

I WISH I was kidding you, man. And that was 8 years ago. I just looked up the tuition for the area of the school I attended, the rates for the dorm I was staying in, and the meal plan prices.

If I was starting this fall? $57K. :boom:

And I mean it when I say that they ripped me off and that plenty of schools would have given me a full-ride, but I was a dingbat and applied ED to NYU. When you apply ED they tell you it gives you first shot at scholarships, but really all it does is remove any ability to haggle you might have, because you're contractually obligated to attend that school if you're accepted.

That's just my personal experience with it. They say it gives you a preference for financial aide, but then you can't say, "Well, I really DO want to go here, but West Bumblehump U. gave me twice as much scholarship money so unless you guys have a better offer I'm going to have to go there." KWIM?

I have no idea! But I'm about to ditch you, too. I have to do some dishes then I'm crawling into bed.

I should just save myself the money, write some rejection letters and mail them to myself in about 8-10 months. :laugh:

Three letters are in!

One professor actually provided me with a copy of the letter he wrote (which I didn't expect). I feel super flattered/humbled. With this LOR stuff almost/essentially done, a major source of my recent stress is gone 😀

I went lap swimming for the first time in 8 years today. Boy, that was a hoot!

Yeah, I could've went to NYU for undergrad, but decided I'd rather go away for college at a SUNY and spend 1/6 of the money than I would to stay home and go to NYU. A teacher of mine in high school who was an alumni told me they basically milk the undergrads for money and didn't recommend it; I hear their grad/professional schools are a lot better though, in the sense of how they treat their students.

Hey I thought I remember you signing up for the July 16 date? I am looking for an opening on the JUly 8 date because that is the day I initially wanted but was closed...I think I will burn out if I wait till July 16!🙁

add all you schools that you want at the same time. If you dont have your LORs ready when you submit and are verified by amcas, all that means is the school wont even look at your app if they screen for secondaries and therefore you wont get any consideration for a 2ndary until your lors are in. Also some schools that do screen only lightly screen. For example, UW madison i believe only screens to make sure you have a 8 or higher in every mcat section as well as a low gpa like 3.0. If you are above those stats you get a secondary. I dont even think they care if you get your lors for them to get you a secondary.

Like i said though w/o lors you cant get an interview or be "complete."
