I don't see what would be wrong with a pant suit? It's a little fashion forward, but it's not like the women of the 90's didn't set a strong precedent for pantsuits. Although that also could be the reason they're not as accepted. Just don't wear gigantic shoulder pads =P
I think most women look not as good as they could in flats and a skirt... they just don't mix very well.
Not as baller as you! =P
I don't look good in pants suits. My top half is not my good half; my bottom half is. Covering it up with pants? Bad idea🙂I don't see what would be wrong with a pant suit? Haha, I've only done 5. I still have 4 that I'm sitting on.
4 done / 2 will be done today / might withdraw from osu still / a couple I don't feel like doing yet (one isn't rolling so it isn't as important and the other is ultra expensive OOS so I'm like ehhh... ya'll would have to give me lots of $$$)
I keep hearing everyone stressing on the money. I'm not a "money will work it self out" person... at all. However, none of us will know what kind of aid we will get until after we are accepted. It is better to cast a wide net and evaluate our options AFTER we get financial aid packages.
I've got enough to worry about now, I'll stress after I get some acceptances 🙂. For right now, I'm all about creating options.
I'm working on USC's secondary (ahead of time because I'm lame) and I wanted to get your guy's input.
Two of the essay questions are:
Briefly describe any unique qualities and abilities you possess which would contribute to:
(A) the educational environment (250 word limit)
.(B) the diversity of the entering class (250 word limit).
Do you guys feel like there would be a lot of overlap between A and B? I feel like my diversity essay could also work for A, so I'm trying to think of what to write. For A, do you think they are wanting to hear about your personality/how you act in the classroom or more about your educational background? e.g. I have a minor in a non-science field, and I was thinking about writing that for A.
Well to me the first one could have to do with diversity of thinking or academic perspective, so your minor would work for that.
And the second one is just how you are diverse and unique in general, for which I assume your diversity essay would work.
I think what you have planned sounds pretty good to me.

The problem is that I am not going to be eligible for need-based aid. I'm well aware of this, and I feel like going into the process with eyes wide open can only be helpful. Hence, looking for merit aid.
I guess I'm creating a different kind of set of options.

One essay left to write for Brown and I will have finished all 9 that I got plus 1 that should be arriving any day now. I am submitting 2 right now then that last one needs to be proofed.
No one commented on my Brown essay above. I think it is good enough and I should just submit it without getting it proofed.
If my only option ended up being 80k/year, I would probably choose the option of just using my very valuable undergraduate degree which I haven't even had to pay anything for... I don't think that'll be the case at all, hopefully I'll get some in state love, but I realize that the things in life that I like to do cost time and money and if medicine is taking most of my time, I'd prefer it give me money in turn.
What is you guys' opinion on: "If accepted to medical school I would like to" versus "In medical school I would like to"?
Yyyyep. Luckily you will probably get lots of diversity-recruiting aid in addition to your being a badass aid. 🙂
What is you guys' opinion on: "If accepted to medical school I would like to" versus "In medical school I would like to"?
I've been using "In medical school...". More often, I use, "I would like to contribute to the medical school community by...."
most often, I use:
"As a physician..."
hey guys when you're uploading a picture for your secondaries...why does it look so distorted when you use the measurements they want?
SLU wants 250X400 pixels but it looks ******ed....
and im sure the other schools i'm doing have different measurements that will come out like that too

Flow: see above.Dear Brown,
You ask me what you think I will have accomplished in 2030. All I can think of is that I really should have gotten a hovercraft by then. I feel as though I was promised one at least 5 years ago.
I hope that this is an acceptable answer.
Love,
Cougs.

Sweet. Then I'm done with all of the secondaries on my desk😀I think a hovercraft is a lofty and worthwhile goal. I'm sure Brown will appreciate it.

Wanna tell Yale why I want to go to their med school? 😀
Yeah... sometimes I think it would be cool to be "nontrad"I suppose the reason we have a different perspective is that I have lived slightly better than paycheck to paycheck for the past 10 years... things only get better from here on out 😛
Right, the latter is a good idea, too!I've been using "In medical school...". More often, I use, "I would like to contribute to the medical school community by...."
Yeah I'm just trying not to come across as arrogant... that's like the ship sinker of all torpedos.Hahaha, I can see the letter now, "We are writing to congratulate you on your Official 2015 BadAss Scholarship. There were many other candidates for this award, but not one with your level of ass-kicking attitude. Hopefully your sexy ass will choose to attend _____ School of Medicine."
I think "In medical school I would like to" is alright, since you said "would like to" instead of "will". But maybe get more input on that.
Oh that totally made me LOL but I forgot about it!Flow: see above.
This vid seriously made me want to go to Yale... (saw it when I was researching yale a few months ago)Duh....because of this:

I just looked at my UMich secondary (diversity essay) and felt like I really wanted to change some things. Too late. This is what I hate about secondaries--I don't have the time to get them all perfect.
I do hate that. I think I'm going to avoid looking over them unless I end up getting an interview and need to remember what I wrote.
What's your diversity essay about?
The content was fine, it was just about stuff I do that's probably different from the majority of other applicants. But I didn't word the "in medical school" stuff quite "humbly" enough. It's all a game, there's nothing truly humble about saying "if I maybe get accepted to your glorious institution then it would be really neat if you would let me." blah blah blah... it's fake. like just let me say what I wanna do at your md school without assuming that I'm an arrogant guy. Hopefully they don't do that with my div essay.I do hate that. I think I'm going to avoid looking over them unless I end up getting an interview and need to remember what I wrote.

How are you guys attaching photos to paper applications, i.e. Columbia and RFU? Glue Stick? Tape? Sweat?

Flow--I thought it sounded fine when you wrote "in medical school." It's confident and direct, and you're the type of applicant who can reasonably expect to get into medical school somewhere, and the adcoms will know that. Saying something like "If I were accepted into medical school" reminds me of the terribly vapid and flighty answers to the Miss USA interview questions, e.g. "If I were crowned Miss USA, I would be--world peace--a great model for young girls everywhere, and of course, world peace." Whether your secondary comes across as cocky or not depends on everything that surrounded that phrase, and from your posts so far, I doubt that you came across as unbearably arrogant.
I think I'm gonna use tape. I don't like that bubbly/crinkly effect you get with glue after it dries. 😛
Do you guys think we'll get secondaries tomorrow at all? Or not until Tuesday?
I promised myself that this weekend I would look at last year's secondary essays from the schools I applied to and start preparing some of them. Of course, it is Sunday night and I haven't done any of that whatsoever. Must be a lingering effect from the bad case of Senioritis I had a few months ago. Certainly not a inherent flaw in my work ethic. Couldn't be.

Same. Already tired of secondaries, and I've only done 6/20!
