You are seriously worying too much over this question🙂

Well at all two of my interviews (i know, i know...2 whole interviews makes me such an expert...) I got asked this question, and the interviewers always gave me weird/knowing looks after I gave honest answers and listed some schools. It really made me miss a step each time : ( I hated wondering whether I had just screwed up really badly. Urg. Anyway, I have no secondaries left to work on, so I don't consider it such a huge waste of time to worry about this 😎

Wanna do mine? 😀

hey for the optional secondary essays, do you guys think its cool to include grade updates? it doesn't really go with the rest of my essay but i wanted to update them on my Spring quarter grades....what do u guys think? just take it out and then call the schools and tell each of them, after i send my secondary, or just include it in?

My email is eerily silent today... no secondaries, no rejections, no interviews... Weird.
same here... I guess I'm starting to get anxious... I know it will be even harder to wait once all of my secondaries are done.

Heheh...no thanks, I'm going to start working on some of mine in advance, based on last year's prompts.

But then again, I've been saying that for nearly 2 weeks and haven't done any of that AT ALL. That is completely typical of me 😛

 I don't suppose batting my eyelashes will help?

I'm mostly just picturing Duke as this storm that I can see coming, it's been on the forecast for weeks, and yet somehow I know I won't be prepared. I hope you're ready for some hardcore whining, guys.

Well friends, I may have just discovered a new potential specialty to look into. Spent my first day in the ER today--so cool. 😀

Im not sure id include it as its not really an update persay....personally i would call the schools and ask if thats ok. I did that and some said yes others said no.

no worries its not a waste of time i was just saying its not a big deal. i know its hard not to freak out and especially since i guess your a reapplicant. One thing about interviewers "looks" and "responses" is they likely mean nothing. Just reading through sdn and my personal experiences it seems its not much to put stock into. For me last year when i interviewed at UCI, he told me i was "the best applicant hes seen in years and was going to get accepted." he also said he would "write a glowing review and make sure i was going to UCI." Guess what my end result was? I was waitlisted.

At drexel my interviewer gave me odd looks after i said anything and was constantly scrutinizing me and made it seem like i failed with everything i said questioning it and saying that "thats not a very good reason." At the end i thanked him for his time and such and his response was "the door is that way." Guess what I was accepted one month later to drexel...I know its anecdotal but ive read and know of people who have so many stories like this that in the end i just really question any interviewers comments to you. Remember you never know what they are trying to do, their agenda, what type of interview they are trying to throw at you, or how they are making you feel. Some interview techniques will involve them making you feel very comfortable and like you guys are buddy buddy, and then guess what you fell into their trap and likely they will be less then impressed and you failed.

awesome🙂! The ER was never that great to me. I do love critical care as of late though. Ill probably regret saying this but 3rd and 4th year seems like it would be great to finally know what you want to do instead of changing your mind and never really knowing.

yeah i know what you mean. for the schools that give you an optional essay (SLU) i'm going to include it, because it's optional so you can say whatver you want, whereas in the essays that have prompts, i won't include it and just give them a call and update them over the phone...

Until about a month ago I had no idea who Justin Bieber was.

Links to the weirdness please. Or Suncrusher narration of the weirdness, please.

i didn't know either until i saw the cilp where he didn't know what germany was

 I like your approach. Maybe that's why it's taking me so long; I usually scour the websites of the schools for programs that might be a good fit. That's at least a little digging, and elaborating about why my past history fits well with the school also takes time.

I really want to send an essay like "I'm applying here because the city your school is in is tolerable, you give MDs, and I have a shot. Oh, and I heard your aid was good."

hah yea, i did the same thing, it was the city size, and then a program that they emphasize on their website, which I assumed to be something fairly unique to them. i sometimes picked curriculum too, but if you go that route, make sure you actually know what you're talking about 'cause i definitely got quizzed on what an integrated curriculum is and just how xxx school's curriculum is unique.

 I don't suppose batting my eyelashes will help?

I sent a primary to Duke, then I got their secondary.

I don't know just how optional some of those essays are, I don't think Wake's essay is very optional, but based on my understanding, SLU's essay is pretty optional.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:
I had to google that....and it was so worth it🙂

lol yea, "german? we don't say that in america"

They meet and Usher instantly takes Bieber on as his protege. Then suddenly they start constantly hanging out and "shootin' hoops" and eating sloppy joes. And Usher buys Bieber a car for his 16th birthday. And it's creepy.

Ew.

At a job I used to have, we called that "grooming".

I don't generally speak of this job🙁

Hahahah🙂

No, I worked for a teen drug abuse program, which actually turned out to be more about teen sexual abuse because the two go hand in hand.

And can you believe that until just now I had blocked it out so well that I didn't even put it on my app?🙂

So, I need help deciding what to wear at the game show. One of you needs to come and be my personal stylist.

so, which part of the program did you work in? the abuse part, or the stopping abuse part? naturally, with your screen name, there's some confusion....

1) It sounds like you could spin that job into an AMAZING activity for your applications. I guess you can always save it to surprise people with on secondary apps or interviews

2) I was reading the interview clothing thread and you were an active participant! (my power color is lime green?! dnk.) Although, I'm sure even the best of us--I wouldn't know(?)--could use someone to check on our style, especially for TV. Do you know whether it will be one of those game shows where your lower body is hidden behind a podium?

Yeah, I left several things off of my app that I could have put on there....I wanted to highlight the things where I had the longest commitment. I only did that for about 9 months.

Hahaha, the original interview thread you mean? Yeah...I was🙂 Though my opinion was not always appreciated🙂

No, no podium; my whole body will be out there. They told me to bring at least 4 outfits, and he said that the wardrobe people like it when you bring a suitcase full of clothes.

bad thing is that you can only wear flats...and I think flats make me look frumpy, at least with a skirt.

haha okay well...i'll keep thinking about it. In the meantime, maybe you can advise me?

I have very pale skin and dark brown hair. Basically, I look very Irish even though I'm only 25%. I like to joke that my Irish genes got drunk and knocked out all the other ones during a bar fight (genetic pun and ethnic joke all in one--holla!). So: navy suit + very dark brown shoes/belt? Or light-ish medium gray suit with black shoes/belt? Does either of those sound good, or are both bad...?

I know some people who were asked to go on the Today Show for an interview. I think they were told to bring lots of clothes. Almost all solid colors; patterns mostly suck on stage, not to mention the dizzying effects some of them cause on camera. Aaaaand...that's all I can remember. Personally, I'd go with simple clothes, but only ones that you know have a really good cut. Less is more(?)

Anyway, good luck! I hope you win!!!

I'm only an alternate. Or a "Wild Card" as they called it. I can't post it but if you want to know you can PM me.

Yeah they said no prints because it messes with their HD cameras and no lime green.

Like any self respecting person has a go-to outfit that is lime green.

As far as your interview clothing, Suncrusher, I think that blue is totally the way to go for you.

What is the general consensus on gray at the moment? I would heavily lean toward blue, but gray might be an option for you as well.

They are making a TV show out of Outsourced.

I don't know how I feel about that. I liked the movie...I don't know if it is TV material.

Does anyone watch Children's Hospital on Adult Swim? It's way funnier than House and Grey's Anatomy

damn no one posted since 9:45...u guys, we're slipping!!
baller did you finally finalize a school list? After all those pm i hope something came out of it 😛. And apparently the Ucs have started screening in people so good luck rhino and baller. 🙂

so i had a school tell me they weren't going to accept a letter, luckily, i called my religion professor from last summer and he is there to save the day.

I finally sent my letters to AMCAS this weekend. They got them!

I need to nut up and submit my first secondary tonight, but I'm skerred!

Guys, opinion on this: citing knowing/working with graduates of a particular medical school that you think are excellent doctors as one of the reasons you are interested in the school.

as long as you spin in right i don't see how it would be bad, but you would have to be tactful in how you tie it back to the school and the specific qualities they encourage, i think

Sounds good to me. Like bleargh already said-- if you do it tactfully, I could see it being a great answer.

This was my plan. Thanks guys!
