Question to those more knowledgeable than me:
I just got an interview invite to Albany Medical College. I'm debating whether or not to go, since I already have a SUNY Upstate acceptance. Should I even bother going? Albany isn't even ranked and costs more than Upstate.
IMHO, if you have the time then go. I haven't had this confirmed but I believe you will get more financial aid with more acceptances, as schools that accepted you can see your other acceptances in February. With that said, if there is absolutely no chance you'd attend and it will cost too much time or money, then I'd pass.
I have a similar predicament, an interview scheduled next year while already holding a few schools I'm happy to attend.
1) Schools won't see where you are accepted until May.
2) Financial aid should be determined before that.
3) State schools seem less likely (than private schools) to adjust financial aid awards b/c most of them base their aid on need, not merit.
The AAMC shares acceptance information across schools in order to assist medical schools adhere to AAMC recommendations. These data are shared as follows:
- a) Beginning in February of each year, a medical school that has accepted an applicant can view the other school or schools that have accepted the applicant, if applicable.
- b) Beginning in April of each year, a medical school can view the school or schools that have accepted an applicant, even if that applicant has not yet been accepted by the medical school.
1.) I hate lady parties
2.) I really hate lady parties
3.) I have to go to a lady party tonight
4.) I hate bored housewives
5.) Please save me from this lady party where they will all want me to make small talk about my medical school apps🙁
I was always unclear on this too, so I did some reading up on it.

I stand corrected 🙂
Thanks for that info, I had never heard/seen that before.
Wow, I had no idea it was that soon. Thanks for checking that out. 🙂
Is there anything in particular that might draw you to Albany? Also, how much will it cost for you to attend the interview. It might be worth it if it's possible you will really like the school.
Well that certainly is interesting that they will see where else I have been accepted, but I'm not sure whether going on the interview for the sole reason of increasing my chances of financial aid is necessarily a good idea. If there's absolutely no chance of me going there, then the only advantage is to help me lower my tuition at the other schools to which I've been accepted. So investing $300-400+ for an interview for a slight chance to lower my tuition seems like a big gamble to me.
Well to be honest, not really. Of the schools I applied to, SUNY Upstate is ranked 3rd to last and Albany is ranked dead last on my list. At this point, my goal of additional acceptances should either be go to a higher quality school or save money. Since Albany would do neither, I think I have my answer as to whether or not I should even bother with the interview. Although the thought of making myself appear more desirable for financial aid/getting off waitlists by getting an extra acceptance is a little tempting.
I got another rejection today too. E-commiseration.Another rejection.
Another waitlist.
::sigh::
Thanks! I'd love it if adcoms would like me too though 😉I like you!
🙂
WTF is a lady party? I hope you can get out of it, Cougs!1.) I hate lady parties

Waaay ahead of you, but still on PST 😎Time to get chocolate milky.

I did. I called my friend who was also going and we met up for a drink around the corner from the party so that I could tolerate walking in there. The ladies were just as horrible as I remembered and I realized why I dread parties with them. I have resolved never to say yes to another🙂Did you end up going to the lady party, Cougs?
Hey all! Got my first acceptance today! I'm so excited, relieved and thankful! It's like a house of bricks was lifted off my back. I still can't believe this day has finally come, I just hope I'm not dreaming (watched Inception last night 👍).

Normally, I prefer snow. Last year for Chicklet's birthday, we did this "Winter Onederland" theme, right? At first, it was just forecast to be a few inches, so I was all excited. Then about a day before the party the forecast started skyrocketing. We wound up getting TWO FEET! This was my face from when we found out we were supposed to get snow up until the final forecast...I agree, rain is way better then snow. Hopefully it clears up quickly!
Inception is such a good movie! I just watched Shutter Island, equally messed up!
i'm glad chicklet's bday is going to rock. we're getting dumped on right now. supposedly we werent supposed to get snow until the afternoon sunday, UNLESS, it was a 'perfect' scenario, so it looks like things just got furrealz.
pouring here, but I think i'm gonna suck it up and head out lol I hope I can find a drier afterwards
done interviewing finally. one of my friends a year above me told me that 1st semester senior year is consumed by the process. i didn't believe it at the time but that's definitely how i feel now that it's finals week
So apparently at the Penn interview, you get the option of going into the anatomy lab, observing students dissect, and even holding organs. Talk about hands on, I held a human heart for the first time. Gross yet not as bad as I thought it would be.
I doubt I'll get into UPenn, though. I am definitely not a schmoozer plus another school has my heart right now.
Hmm... I have a lot of respect for all you people who have been doing this pre-med thing since the start of college and have managed to stay focused and done well the first time through. For me, I know I didn't have the maturity/work ethic/passion to pursue medicine at the beginning of undergrad so I wanna give kudos to all of you who managed to get good grades/mcat scores while doing this the first time.
That said, I also want to give props to those who recognized that their previous career wasn't what they wanted to do, had the guts to go back to school and make a change, and who are now successfully about to enter medical school. That takes a lot of guts.
So I guess I am giving props to everyone here 😕![]()

But yeah, congrats Raffle, you've had a successful first half of the cycle it seemed like if I remember correctly from this thread.
Ducky, I see you there! The batter alone for the Magnolia cupcakes is TO DIE FOR. And the consistency isn't like any other cupcake I've ever made. Next up is a dozen of the chocolate ones.
Thanks shanks! (ooo that rhymed!) Could you tell that to my gf for me? She'll kill me if I don't get into a Cali school. I'm honestly really surprised about all the love NY is giving me, 3/4 of my interviews are from there 😕
I know, having a SO to think of when choosing a school makes everything more difficult 🙁 I'm rooting for you to get into a CA school though Raffle!
At both of the schools I've been accepted to, I've had "worst interview stories" moments.
🤣At school E, the admissions director told me I should go sit in on a class. I told her "ehh, I don't know if I want to sit through a lecture, I'd rather stay here and talk and eat a cookie." and she insisted "you really should go." so I said "alllriight... if I HAVE to..." came back and said "wow, it is impressive how many students go to class here."
That's all. Good luck. Sometimes I wonder if being human helps during the process. We'll never know. Until next year when we're doing interviews.

Haha. Well good luck, regardless! hey, get her to love to new york. I mean if Cornell works out for you... straight up: tell her to pack her bags lol.
