Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another rejection.
Another waitlist.

::sigh::

sorry to hear, Cougs 🙁 gchat later

One of your waitlists will turn into an acceptance :xf::luck:

I just got rejected from my #1/top/favorite. I knew it was my Hail Mary application and a 1 in a million attempt, considering my gpa, but was hoping my mcat, being an employee there, and a LOR from an attending/faculty member there would have helped. Oh well. Not surprised, so not upset, disappointed I wasn't so mature/motivated freshman year, but the past is the past.

sorry Cougs 🙁. e-hug!

Question to those more knowledgeable than me:

I just got an interview invite to Albany Medical College. I'm debating whether or not to go, since I already have a SUNY Upstate acceptance. Should I even bother going? Albany isn't even ranked and costs more than Upstate.

IMHO, if you have the time then go. I haven't had this confirmed but I believe you will get more financial aid with more acceptances, as schools that accepted you can see your other acceptances in February. With that said, if there is absolutely no chance you'd attend and it will cost too much time or money, then I'd pass.

I have a similar predicament, an interview scheduled next year while already holding a few schools I'm happy to attend.

1) Schools won't see where you are accepted until May.

2) Financial aid should be determined before that.

3) State schools seem less likely (than private schools) to adjust financial aid awards b/c most of them base their aid on need, not merit.

hey Guys I got a B in a class this semester. I am really worried whether this will affect my matriculation. Any advice will be helpful

Thanks

What if Albany was going to offer you a full-ride and you miss out on it 😱

j/k. But if you really think Albany is so much worse than SUNY Upstate, then don't go to the interview. But if you go, you might find that you really love the location/faculty/student atmosphere/etc. and that you would rather go there. Or you might find that you hate Albany, and then when you attend SUNY Upstate you will never have any doubt in your mind that you chose the right school

Edited to add: Cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooougs!

I was always unclear on this too, so I did some reading up on it.

The AAMC shares acceptance information across schools in order to assist medical schools adhere to AAMC recommendations. These data are shared as follows:

  • a) Beginning in February of each year, a medical school that has accepted an applicant can view the other school or schools that have accepted the applicant, if applicable.
  • b) Beginning in April of each year, a medical school can view the school or schools that have accepted an applicant, even if that applicant has not yet been accepted by the medical school.

Tell them you can't make it because of a medical emergency?

That reminds me of that thread about silly reasons you want to be a doctor: "I'm sorry I can't make it to your extremely boring shindig and make small talk with you people I can't stand, I've just been called into emergency surgery!"

I like the emergency surgery idea. That or you're sick. Bored housewives do not sound like fun.

Is there anything in particular that might draw you to Albany? Also, how much will it cost for you to attend the interview. It might be worth it if it's possible you will really like the school.

I was always unclear on this too, so I did some reading up on it.

Wow, I had no idea it was that soon. Thanks for checking that out. 🙂

I'm through the worst part of finals, thank God! 3 down, 2 to go.

🙂 👍

Well that certainly is interesting that they will see where else I have been accepted, but I'm not sure whether going on the interview for the sole reason of increasing my chances of financial aid is necessarily a good idea. If there's absolutely no chance of me going there, then the only advantage is to help me lower my tuition at the other schools to which I've been accepted. So investing $300-400+ for an interview for a slight chance to lower my tuition seems like a big gamble to me.

Well to be honest, not really. Of the schools I applied to, SUNY Upstate is ranked 3rd to last and Albany is ranked dead last on my list. At this point, my goal of additional acceptances should either be go to a higher quality school or save money. Since Albany would do neither, I think I have my answer as to whether or not I should even bother with the interview :d. Although the thought of making myself appear more desirable for financial aid/getting off waitlists by getting an extra acceptance is a little tempting.

Nope, it doesn't seem worth it to go, then. Keep that money and go on a trip with it or something, haha.

I got another rejection today too. E-commiseration.
I like you!

WTF is a lady party? I hope you can get out of it, Cougs!

Time to get chocolate milky.

Like I said, if you feel like $400 is a big deal then I wouldn't go either. Heck, I skipped an interview before my first acceptance.

The most important thing is you already have an acceptance and successfully completed your goal.🙂

Did you end up going to the lady party, Cougs?
I did. I called my friend who was also going and we met up for a drink around the corner from the party so that I could tolerate walking in there. The ladies were just as horrible as I remembered and I realized why I dread parties with them. I have resolved never to say yes to another🙂

On the good side...I got some cute ornaments and had some yummy pomegranate limeade.

Do any of you all have Rockband 3 for 360? I am waiting to play with Sun but he needs a wireless adapter first. Someone needs to play with me🙂

It's supposed to rain a lot here tomorrow and I am THRILLED!

Not that I love the rain, just that it's not an epic amount of snow, because it's Chicklet's birthday party.

Hey all! Got my first acceptance today! I'm so excited, relieved and thankful! It's like a house of bricks was lifted off my back. I still can't believe this day has finally come, I just hope I'm not dreaming (watched Inception last night 👍).

I agree, rain is way better then snow. Hopefully it clears up quickly!
Normally, I prefer snow. Last year for Chicklet's birthday, we did this "Winter Onederland" theme, right? At first, it was just forecast to be a few inches, so I was all excited. Then about a day before the party the forecast started skyrocketing. We wound up getting TWO FEET! This was my face from when we found out we were supposed to get snow up until the final forecast...

 :eyebrow: :annoyed: :uhno: :scared: :wtf: 😱 :wow: 😡

I called everyone on Friday to postpone it to Sunday (it was originally Saturday), and give the area a chance to get plowed (Teehee!). Only about half of the people that originally RSVPed made it. So this year, I'm quite happy with the rainy forecast.

Ducky, I see you there! The batter alone for the Magnolia cupcakes is TO DIE FOR. And the consistency isn't like any other cupcake I've ever made. Next up is a dozen of the chocolate ones.

The city I'm currently in has some amazzzzing food 🙂 wow

i'm glad chicklet's bday is going to rock. we're getting dumped on right now. supposedly we werent supposed to get snow until the afternoon sunday, UNLESS, it was a 'perfect' scenario, so it looks like things just got furrealz.

So what city are you in that has good food and is pouring?? 🙄

The rain is coming down pretty heavy by me. It warmed up yesterday and today otherwise it would've been snow because we had been having temperatures in the 30s... but its 55 today?? What's that about?

done interviewing finally. one of my friends a year above me told me that 1st semester senior year is consumed by the process. i didn't believe it at the time but that's definitely how i feel now that it's finals week

Hmm... I have a lot of respect for all you people who have been doing this pre-med thing since the start of college and have managed to stay focused and done well the first time through. For me, I know I didn't have the maturity/work ethic/passion to pursue medicine at the beginning of undergrad so I wanna give kudos to all of you who managed to get good grades/mcat scores while doing this the first time.

That said, I also want to give props to those who recognized that their previous career wasn't what they wanted to do, had the guts to go back to school and make a change, and who are now successfully about to enter medical school. That takes a lot of guts.

So I guess I am giving props to everyone here 😕

I feel ya. When I try to remember this semester, all I remember is sleeping through my lectures, dance class, and flying on planes. I didn't even go on all that many interviews compared to some of our '15-ers.

So apparently at the Penn interview, you get the option of going into the anatomy lab, observing students dissect, and even holding organs. Talk about hands on, I held a human heart for the first time. Gross yet not as bad as I thought it would be.

I doubt I'll get into UPenn, though. I am definitely not a schmoozer plus another school has my heart right now.

I dunno why you would think you need to be a schmoozer to go to Penn. I had great conversation with both of my interviewers and it didn't seem schmoozy at all. In fact, I thought Penn was the most wacky, fun, and genuine place I went (tied with Case in that respect, probably). The anatomy lab was definitely unexpected and awesome. They were chiseling the spine the day I went 🙂

Big ups to everybody!!

I know personally I wasn't dead set or had any clue what I wanted to do with my life early on in undergrad, hence my very unbalanced stats, with albeit some unique experiences, and ended up doing a masters.

But yeah, congrats Raffle, you've had a successful first half of the cycle it seemed like if I remember correctly from this thread.

Thanks shanks! (ooo that rhymed!) Could you tell that to my gf for me? She'll kill me if I don't get into a Cali school :d. I'm honestly really surprised about all the love NY is giving me, 3/4 of my interviews are from there 😕

I know, having a SO to think of when choosing a school makes everything more difficult 🙁 I'm rooting for you to get into a CA school though Raffle!

Story time

At both of the schools I've been accepted to, I've had "worst interview stories" moments.

At school E, the admissions director told me I should go sit in on a class. I told her "ehh, I don't know if I want to sit through a lecture, I'd rather stay here and talk and eat a cookie." and she insisted "you really should go." so I said "alllriight... if I HAVE to..." came back and said "wow, it is impressive how many students go to class here."

At school C, my interviews were all mixed up. So I had a makeshift student interview first. Then my faculty interviewer was late. I'll just say she had a very... unappealing... appearance and was clearly reading my file in the lobby after she got there late. Even the admissions lady seemed to be like "I'm sorry you have this women" (it was all in the body language) so I said "aw man.. you sure I can't talk to Dr. X instead?" The lady who showed up turned out to have no emotions as I was talking to her which made explaining things really hard since I wasn't sure if she knew what I was talking about.

That's all. Good luck. Sometimes I wonder if being human helps during the process. We'll never know. Until next year when we're doing interviews.

Thanks daisy 😍. Fingers crossed for an interview or 5 for you!

Had bad interview moments at both of the schools I've interviewed at so far, but my paranoia prevents me from telling them until this cycle is over :scared:.

I think I would really enjoy being a student interviewer. Hearkens back to my days as a director where I had casting sessions of 30+ actors at a time. I made it a habit of unwittingly "inducing" particular emotions in these actors in an effort to see how they portray that emotion. If that emotion was fear, I would have someone stand 2ft from the door so that when the actor opened it they would get scared to death. I was such a jerk :meanie:.

Edit: Someone made a SDN profile as a ColeOnTheRolll imposter. He must have pissed off somebody. For your own enjoyment, please read all threads/posts made by this imposter:

Haha. Well good luck, regardless! hey, get her to love to new york. I mean if Cornell works out for you... straight up: tell her to pack her bags lol.

Haha I wish it were that simple. I don't think she's ready to move to a different state just to be with me. She's not ready for that kind of thing yet. If I end up out of state it'll likely be over 🙁. We're both way too needy to be able to handle a long distance relationship :d.
