Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, it always falls to the husband, doesn't it. 😉 Might I suggest a snowblower as a worthwhile investment? (Not that I have personal experience, but my friends at work seem to like theirs.)

He volunteers himself so I don't feel too bad. A lot of times he might shovel while I clean off the car. Fair enough of a trade, I guess. And I would LOVE to get a snowblower when we have a house. It's definitely something we want to look into.

Sorry to hear it. 🙁 Sucks when everyone in the house is down for the count--who's supposed to take care of you then?
It sucks a fat one. Hubs and I have been taking turns. I think my throat hurts more but he is more achy. Chicklet doesn't feel good either so when we got home this afternoon from looking at houses, he took a nap on the bed and she just wanted Mommy so she was napping on me while I was passed out sitting up on the couch, but I didn't get much rest. But then he made me soup and then made something for himself and Chicklet and walked the dog. It's almost easier when she's sick, too, because then she doesn't want to do much beyond sit in her little toddler-sized chair and watch Pixar movies, ya know?

I could see that, sure. 🙂

The solution seems to me to be to teach the dog to make soup.

mmmmmmm soup 👍

the last 2 weeks I have had soup for half of my meals. And I have been regaling Daisy via gchat with highly interesting insights from my experience, including such gems as "I <3 soup!!" and "'tried progresso french onion soup instead of campbells and it is disgusting just fyi"

I love soup! Especially chicken and dumplings. Yummm.

I feel bad for Nadal. He's so much better/more likeable than Federer. Was really pulling for the Rafa-slam. In the Aussie final I think I should be rooting for Murray but I really like Djokovic.

The rafa slam definitely would have been cool. I'm rooting for Djokovic right now due to personality and playstyle and because I am covetous of his hair. Also because it is infinitely entertaining for me to watch how excited the brits get every time one of their own gets close to winning a major and then how they always fail...and I just don't want that to end! 😛 ETA i especially dont want it to end after i just called it "infinitely" entertaining haha

Sigh. Have to present at journal club on Monday. Only starting to make my powerpoint now. To be honest though, I actually really enjoy giving presentations and teaching. These past two weeks have just been brutal regarding how much time I've spent in the lab and I feel burnt-out at the moment, which is not helping me make this presentation at all.

Also, damn you SDN for distracting me! Hi, my name is Kaushik and I'm an SDN addict. 😳

burnout abounds here, too. I feel yo pain.

Nothing. But I didn't equate my success with that thread.

I would point you to my wall of accomplishments for proof, but my Pee-wee basketball league took down my Most improved trophy back in 2001.

I am entertained 🙂

Haha. I'd subscribe to that.

One of these days I should try making soup from scratch. Of the things to cook at home, soup should be the hardest thing to screw up.

I've never been fond of french onion soup. I think it smells like BO. The only soup I make is pasta ***ioli (Oh Good God, really? Pasta fαgioli), and it's more of a stew, but it's SOOOO good. It is my favorite comfort food. I would be happy to share my recipe if you want. It's really easy and the ingredients are pretty cheap but it makes a TON. I definitely want to learn to make more, though. I wonder how many kinds are crock-pot friendly. I have a feeling hubster and I are going to get really familiar with crock-pot recipes once I start school.

I feel kinda better today. My tonsils are still huge and swallowing hurts like hell, but I'm not having chills or the fatigue from yesterday. I didn't really appreciate that after already feeling wiped out from the tadpole.

Oh! And you guys all need to rent Date Night. It was hilarious!

It's great with salad and either regular Italian bread or garlic bread.

In your biggest pot (I use our 8 qt. pasta pot but you will need another big pot as well), saute 2-3 stalks sliced celery, 2-3 cloves diced garlic and bacon (totally optional, I use 4 or 5 slices, sometimes more, cut to be about 1" square) in olive oil. Add pepper and oregano to taste. Salt is optional, but the broth is usually enough salt (obviously, if you're using low sodium broth, you may want to add salt).

Add 1 small can of tomate paste & can of water, stir and let simmer. Add 2 regular-size or 1 large can of chicken broth and let simmer.

While your letting this stuff simmer, you will also be cooking a box of ditalini pasta to al dente firmness.

Add 1 or 2 cans of canellini beans. Simmer for a few minutes more.

Strain ditalini pasta & add to pot. Finish cooking pasta in the sauce. Ladle and serve. We usually top with parmesan cheese.

This is how I always make my pasta ***ioli; it's a family recipe. I know some people add more tomato paste or sauce to make the broth more tomato-y, or actually add diced tomatoes. I know at the Olive Garden they use ground beef instead of bacon, and I think they add some pepper flakes or something too, which makes it spicier. Honestly both of those changes sound amazing right now. Mmmm.

Word. I got my bf one for Christmas, so he's already starting to see the magic that is a crock-pot dinner.

And sorry you and your fam are sick 🙁. And sorry to all you snow-invaded people 🙁.

i'm more of an artist than a scientist in the kitchen, but tomato paste is key for tomato-y soups

edit: i totally just noticed you also used "tomato-y" in your other post.. must be whedonspeak
👍

I think the next time I make it I'm going to use a bigger can of tomato paste. I'm kinda jonesin' for tomatoes right now. Hell, I'm half tempted to go to the store and get the ingredients to make it tonight.

for me usually a small can does the trick just fine, but i also cook the pasta in the soup so my soup/stews get considerably thicker than it would be otherwise.

so you guys will be seeing less of me 🙁

the tech guys at my work came and put password-protection on our internet browsers. now they know who goes to what sites and if it's work related or not. i guess i would do the same thing if i owned or ran a business or other work place, it just sucks.

Hey guys! I'd like to formally introduce myself as I am now an official member of the class of 2015! My name is Spleenic. I have been in and out of this forum for the past few months. I am a dude (mid 30s), married, and have a 1.5 yr old son. I am a huge Phish fan. I also love snowboarding and NHL hockey (Blackhawks!). I am generally pretty sarcastic, which does not always translate so well on forums. I am currently employed as an organ and tissue recovery specialist. I am interested in surgery (general, ortho, transplant). So, yeah...hello.

This is true... soup talk abounds on gchat.

:welcome: O hai Spleenic and other newcomers to the thread! Spleenic, your name makes me think of "Spleen" in that bad 90's movie "Mystery Men." I trust you're a little less flatulent than him though

Edit: I went to a monster truck rally this weekend. It was quite a cultural experience. I want to fast forward to Thursday and go to Tahoe already.

Yeah but spleen. C'mon, that's just fun to say. Spleeeen

<~~~ Mother of the Year.

Chicklet is sleeping with this tonight. She insisted on it. We just took the voice box out so it wouldn't wake her up if she rolled on it.

Haha yeah I kind of hate my job anyways, so maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing. We'll see! lol
