Hopefully, this isn't a sign that I'm in for some serious f***ing disappointed come May 1st, but I am the only one that thinks a decent amount of the questions that come up in the MCAT board are beyond the scope of material covered in the MCAT?

Yea! I notice a lot of people ask really in depth question that I've never seen in practice or came across in review...

yeah people over there get wayyyy too into the nitty gritty. if something so detailed comes up it'll be in the passage. you'll be good geekmama!

watch me get flamed, but i honestly think the MCAT is a reasoning exam, it involves very little fact recall. I mean, we all sat through premed classes, and rest assured you should know your stuff- but the key to acing it in my opinion is to read the passage with absolute concentration, don't freak out, be systematic - at least 80% of the questions draw answers directly from the passage.

as far as verbal....... I have no idea.......... 👎
 
Yea, that's actually why I stopped going to the mcat board. It freaked me out too much.

That's what I thought! I see it a lot with biology questions, A&P-type stuff a lot of the time. Despite the fact that I took Biology 1 & 2 the 2003-2004 school year, I KNOW that wasn't covered in Gen. Bio. I'm just trying to make sure I've got the basics and the concepts down and will be able to figure other things out from the context of the passage (which is the point, anyway, if I'm not mistaken). Phew!

BTW, Geekchick 2.0 had her 15 month appointment today, and she is a rockstar. And she's got a big head like her momma. 👍

I completely agree with you, actually. Biology is largely where I'm concerned because, while I've taken A&P since 2003-2004, a lot of the stuff they might ask about, I haven't gone over in more than 5 years. :scared:

Honestly, I think verbal is the same way. You just have to have your bulls*** sensors on maximum, because they intentionally word things to trip you up, IMO.

Yea, and something I notice with it, is sometimes they're ask overvie questions, they tend to want a broad answer (atleast in the questions I've gotten) not specific

Yeah, I think it's all about zoning in. I'll give it what I've got.

Also, if all of us, assuming we all grew up speaking English are having to work on verbal, I can't imagine how tough it must be for the foreigners who are trying to take this exam.

i dont have a problem with my 2015 comrades knowing who i am, but i don't want an adcom to be strolling through here and connect the dots and know who i am before they interview me.

yeah, i would probably fb friend you guys (at least on limited prof) before i met you...but adcoms, they be scary


technically i'm pretty googl-able, my sorority has pics of me on the site and my lab is apparently going to post pics soon ..so it prob won't even matter.

good idea. story time: this kid friended me last week. i didn't want to be friends with him (another story). i ignored the request. an hour later, i get another request. i'm like, wow, ballsy. so i wait a few hrs, then ignore him.

2am that night i get a msg: hey, curbye, i see you've ignored my request twice now. i'm not gonna bother you, but i just wanted to see how you've been.




seriously??? it's called ignore for a reason. you're supposed to IGNORE it. not acknowledge the awkwardness.


edit: IV, if anyone from my school reads this they're gonna know who i am because i told this story like 3 times last week. hahahaha anonymity fail.
