Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
AND keep the opponent to under 100? lame. Portland goes crazy for chalupas. they literally chant "cha-lu-pa" over and over when the Blazers are within 3 points (okay maybe a little sad). Everyone loves fourth meal I guess.

So...anyone watching the game tomorrow? I don't think I'll sleep much tonight.

yeah we scream ta-cos ta-cos hah it is lame, and the tacos are only $.99 anyways

the SEC is basically NFL Jr. you can't deny that.

sorry, duckie. I'm a west-coaster, and I can't even argue with that. Though I'll say that the top pac-10 teams can hold their ground regardless of what conference they are in and who they face

oregon wins 37-27

edit: maybe a higher-scoring game if newton and the oregon run doesn't get overexcited to start the first half

Neither am I. But I need to wake up in 6 hrs to go into lab. 🙁
which coast do you belong to Kaushik? just curious. i dont think you've been around for any of our east/west battles.

Midwest. Central time FTL (at least, at the moment). :meanie:

Good thing you're in the middle and don't need to get involved with those dirty West>East battles...it can get dirty....and unfair

Our football team is such a great analogy for our city/state. Game crappy, get lucky.* Nevada.

Just completed the SDN pre-allo pwnage triple crown.

Drank beer, ate pizza, watched football, watched dance, danced. Good night!

West would be best if we had more private/OOS friendly MD schools 😡 I don't really want to leave the west. (although I probably will) There are nice things about the EC too, of course.

*(although it might all be truly attributable to skill)

ugh, they completely changed the route of that train. the M train was MY train 😡

eh, its actually more convenient now... but not for those wall street losers.

interesting concept for the video and performance however.

For serious.

It is silly, too. Everyone knows the west is the best.

Otherwise...why would they rhyme?😀

+1

Agreed! I'll miss it if I leave!

Good Lord. We got snow Friday, and Saturday, and now they're saying we're supposed to get another 6" or more Tuesday into Wednesday. I LOVE snow but come on!

Yes, I am tired of the white stuff. I was hearing anywhere between 3" and 12" on ABC this morning, depending on the timing of the storm.

Let's hope it's not the beginning of Snowpocalypse Pt. 2. The first one was terrible and really don't need a sequel. 😛

shanks, do you play fifa 11 on live?

I wish. I currently don't have a 360. I was going for the splurge after the acceptance in October, but I uhhh hmmmm how do I say... had a rather expensive speeding ticket which I will be appearing for a few months from now. Then I just spent my Christmas money on clothes. Otherwise I would definitely be on that lol.

For real. Though, Snowpocalypse the original allowed me to stay in all week and cuddle.

That may be the only benefit of getting snowed in. I think I might need to be a good Pennsylvanian today and make a run on the grocery store for milk, eggs, and bread. Why is it, whenever there's going to be bad weather, that everyone is convinced they need the ingredients for French toast? At least we already have the maple syrup. 🙂

Wow, reading my quote I definitely should have reread before I posted. "doesn't" need a sequel.

That's pretty funny. I love french toast. And yes, people here too go nuts and wipe out the stores. The other night trader joe's was practically empty of inventory.

17" in the last 48hrs in Steamboat. 🙂

i hate flying so the hatred for airports comes preloaded for me

edit: but i'd love to fly to you stanford, i didn't mean what i just said

Haha, let's just say I appreciate the destination but not the journey.

Airrrrrrports. Who else is sick of them?

Meeeeeee! Although I have a feeling this trip tomorrow will be much better, now that I have my noise canceling headphones .

Haha, let's just say I appreciate the destination but not the journey.

Very true, but in screenwriting we always say an audience can't fully appreciate an ending without seeing the taxing, tumultuous journey that took us there. But at this point, I'm like f*** that, gimme acceptance!

I'm in the Midwest too Kaushik and I agree

What noise canceling headphones do you have? I've been searching for a pair and don't know which to go with.

Why are so many people actually responding to Protagonistic's question in his latest thread? SDN, I am disappoint. We need Raffle to take that thread in a new random direction.

Pish-posh. Central time FTW. The Daily Show and the Colbert Report come on earlier. 😉

ugh, they completely changed the route of that train. the M train was MY train 😡

Huh. Just checked the map (I moved out of the city in '02) and whoa. It routes to Queens Boulevard now. And the G stops at Court Square. *sniff*

Airrrrrrports. Who else is sick of them?

Maybe you're getting overdosed by the X-ray full-body scanners?

Airrrrrrports. Who else is sick of them?

I'm headed to an airport right now... but I'm going to Vegas for a few days of fun, not an interview 🙂.

Also, I got an interview invite to SLU this morning. Crazy, b/c I was complete there since 6/25!! But, I am staying in CA for med school, so I am going to turn it down. After all those secondaries, I can't believe I never traveled oos for an interview.

Look at the map. Its hilarious, it now starts and ends at two train stops that are within walking distance of each other. Its kind of confusing and odd. But somehow has become more convenient for me.. because now if I want to go to LES, hop on the M by metro. If I'm all ready in the city and further uptown and need to get back to Queens.. take the M towards uptown & Queens. lol. Its a circular mess.

What makes you think WingedOx is a troll? 😕

+1.. opinionated, yea, but troll?

Wikipedia sometimes says things better than I can:

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2]

Completely describes every one of his/her posts. Protag's too.

Instead, on SDN, we ban people who might be less intelligent, or uninformed, instead of banning actual trolls or warning disruptive users.

But hey, what do I know, I've only been moderating different forums, some with 100's of thousands of registered users--just like SDN--for the last 8 years.

Bleargh is a secret troll!

I can't believe I never noticed it before!

P.S. does this or does this not sound exactly like plot of Kick-ass? The wannabe superhero even got stabbed by one of the real criminals! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/09/seattle-superhero-phoenix_n_805004.html

*shrug* That seems like such a broad definition of "troll," if only for the "otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion" part. Aren't the Jesus pics disrupting normal on-topic discussion?

The key part of the definition is not so much off topic as it is off topic and inflammatory/insulting with the intention of getting a rise out of people.

The difference between a "good troll" and an "obvious troll" is how easy it is to believe that they're trying to be on topic/contribute.

IMHO, I haven't seen WingedOx make many inflammatory or trollish remarks. I think people are allowed to disagree on Ayn Rand - then again I'm diametrically opposed to her.

Yeah... actually, no. Quite frankly, you don't have the first clue why some people get banned, Flow, but there is a reason every last time. You also have no idea who has/hasn't received any action from the moderation staff. Mmmkay?

Remember what they say happens when you assume.

I think sometimes it's so hard to tell if someone is trolling or not because there are just so many neurotic premeds in the world. (Specifically the world of SDN.) People post thinks like "omg I got an A- in bio, my life is over" and everyone says they're trolls, when I think a lot of the time they are really just crazy kids with no grasp of reality.

But as to WingedOx and some of the others, I'm just not sure one way or the other. Because yes Geeks, I do know what happens when we assume 😉

In other news, I just realized that one of my friends from college has no idea where the heck I live. I'm not sure if she's getting the name of my city confused with someplace else or if she drives 100 mph through traffic all the time or what. But she keeps saying that since she lives so close to me we should hang out all the time during the week. (We live like an hour and 15 minutes away, maybe 2 and a half hours with rush hour traffic!) I definitely don't mind driving to visit her on the weekends, but there's no way I'm about to trek there and back after work. But somehow I can't make her see this though...

I know what I have observed to date, it really doesn't matter what happens behind the scenes, that part is generally the same wherever you go. Even then, I would hardly say I have "no clue," as it's usually pretty obvious. Granted, I don't generally have access to the IP's of multiple account users, or whether or not some people get warned (generally ineffectual--not just on SDN--if so) etc.

The only major difference is that SDN is less transparent (mostly for good reason) than other forums.

Many other posters have recognized that ignorance/stupidity gets banned on SDN and called trolling more than inflammatory posting. At least, that's the appearance. If the mod team would rather say "you're ignorant" than address a public relations-type issue, so be it.

The nature of forums usually discourages constructive criticism -- or even disagreeing with moderators or "more respected" members, for fear of being banned over an opinion. I've always found this sad. I think it's reflective of larger social issues. Anyway, that's off topic, but not inflammatory. Haha. 😀

Exactly, you're speculating. Also, I don't believe it is my job, or any other mod's, to try and fix any poster's misinterpretation of the moderation of the forums.
