Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do you know about Allen's test?

you should. it might be a bonus question....

yeah we each have a doctor that we spend 3-4 hours with in their clinic every single week for the first 2 years, and mine is a veritable fountain of knowledge

he let me do an allen test as well as tutoring me on interpreting an EKG, teaching me about COPD diagnostic tests, showing me a patient with shingles and pitting edema, and giving me a mnemonic to remember the symptoms of hypercalcemia...and that was all in the first 2 hours of my first week 😱 👍 😍

i love that he lets me ask a billion mechanistic questions and answers them all instead of assigning me the homework of looking the answers up myself or something

some people got assigned to doctors who are too busy to talk to them at all. sucks for them :meanie:

I'm allowed to say stuff like that now that I'm not interviewing anymore

That is really lucky. You hit the preceptor jackpot.

Boo! I hope this doesn't happen to me.

good luck at your interview 👍

Thanks! Good luck with the brachial plexus!!!

Today the professor did an Allen test on himself in front of the class.

Went to an airway management / dummy intubation workshop... got the Mac and Miller and the Bougie tube in on the first time under 30 sec! Yay! Now let's hope I remember this 2 years later -.-

Talked to some upper termers. Apparently it's possible to score a 90% on the NBME Path Shelf exam and score a 60% on the SGU Pathology final...

o hai friends
😍

Awwwwwwwwww
bump 👎
🙁

Histo/cell biology exam tomorrow. I should be studying/sleeping but my brain's fried and all the electron micrograph images blur into one blob...:scared:
+1. 50 minutes until the exam. Most cram info about occulin, claudins, cadherins into brain (plus more!). ahhhhhhh

p.s. Have a great day Maubs! be excited for labor day weekend. Settlers perhaps? or boating?

I have an exam Friday, so I'll be right there with you guys shortly. Hopefully I don't fail this one. 🙁

Good luck Maubs! You're in med skewl now!

Also I will definitely be down for meeting you guys sometime this weekend... except for Saturday. Gf and I are heading to Madison to visit some of her family.

Hey guys. I know I've been MIA for quite a while as I'm reapplying and such, but wanted you to know I got my first interview invite this morning! So excited!! 🙂🙂

Duckie!! Good luck! Let us know if you interview at any of our schools and if we can be of any assistance.

You're gonna do great!

First day in the bag. Yes, it's only orientation, but still. Sooooo many more people to meet...

I fight sleep during EVERY lecture. Just sit me in an auditorium and pull up a powerpoint. Zzzzzzzz

Luckily we only have maybe 2-3 required a week.

I'm pretty much known as the kid who falls asleep during lecture (4 straight hours, 5 days a week).

We have clicker questions for attendance... if I get them all right it means my subconscious has been listening to lecture for me, right?

Yeeeep me too. Histo, biochem, physio = fb or sleep. Only Anatomy can actually keep me awake 🙁

This whole going backwards from learning about treating disease/being an OT to basic science again is kinda throwing me off. I need to study more 🙁

This medical education, it sounds fun.

Our class logged over 200 facebook posts on our group today (not including group chat) during physio, which resulted in bursts of laughter spontaneously erupting throughout the lecture on action potentials.

So, yeah, it actually is kinda fun 🙂

Haha, yeah, fun times were had by all today during our lecture that no one wanted to be in, since we spent the whole time making fun of the lecture/random other stuff.

Facebook chat is the new way to pass notes in class.

Sounds disastrous.

Holy crap, med school is fun. Granted it's still orientation week, but goddamn I love my classmates.

Just wait until the real stuff starts... Maubs is all roses in Chicago right now... everyone else is wishing for a vacation already.

psh, speak for yourself. I'm 3 weeks into classes and I'm still having lots of fun. (we'll see how I feel sept. 26 with our first anatomy exam)

Jealous you have SO LONG before your first one! We just had our first one Wednesday (erm, I passed - but not by much...), and our second is Sept 21! 👎

Whatevs... we've had 3 quizzes and a midterm, and aside from a few wholly unpleasant dissections, I'm enjoying it plenty. Doesn't mean I'm not thrilled about this 3 day weekend, though.

are you on a blocks system? we're running on a semester system, so we're taking biochem, histo, physio, practice of medicine, and anatomy right now - and we have exams for all of those classes the week of oct. 8th. so, that's gonna suck. I feel like I may have preferred a block system, but who knows

3 day weekend...thank god because I desperately need to catch up on studying 🙄 :lame: :srs:

last week, my anatomy group (I wasn't there) cut the boobs off our cadaver and just left them around her knees for me to find when I was alone in the lab at midnight...*unzip bodybag -> surprise!*

p.s. they are still there, just sitting there in a pool of dirty embalming fluid...keeping her knees company... grossssss

Yea, I do love that I only have 1-2 classes at a time 👍

But, why does anatomy have to include embryology, physiology, etc. too?! eeek. Basically, we had 22 lectures to do (online) in two weeks, dissection every third day (but we still go in lab every day for at least an hour), clinical correlations once or twice a week, and team based learning sessions once or twice a week. But on the upside, only six more weeks til we're all done with it!

Fridays we have our Intro to Clinical Medicine (read: doctor class). It's a nice break 😎

Suncrusher... I legit just lol'ed. Were they implants or au naturel?

PS. Her boobs by the knees indicates she was extremely old, yes?
