CCLCM is a 5 year program. I intend to get a master's degree within that time frame, free of charge. It's a very unusual program, anybody interested in research should consider it - they train you to become a physician investigator (at one of the top 5 hospitals in the country). Those who have a year of research under their belt before applying should really consider Cleveland Clinic - especially women.

It's co-located in their main research complex, a powerhouse of medical research. It makes Mayo Clinic look huge, with a class size of 32. Oh, and it is tuition and fee free! 😀

Plus, it is run through Case Western Reserve, which in-and-of-itself was my #2 choice for med schools! You have all the rights and privileges of a Case student while there.

The secondary application is part of Case Western Reserve's. All you have to do is a couple of additional essays in the app to apply. After that, they are separate application processes.

Thanks! I actually just sat here and stared at my reply for 10 minutes and realized the other part of my "problem." I don't have crazy good emotional reasons/life changing events for wanting to be a doctor like in lots of the PS' I've read but I feel like that's what adcomms want to see from all the stuff I've been reading.

You dont need a crazy story and trying to fabricate one or trying to force one out is only going to hurt your PS and your chances as you will come off insincere (among other things) to adcoms. I did have a crazy life changing story but as JJ said he didnt. We are both accepted at great schools. Not everyone has to have some crazy story about overcoming something or something that made them want to go into medicine. As long as you are honest and passoniate, you should be fine. Of the 15k or so accepted each year you can bet the majority are more your "average" applicants who arent non-trad or have crazy stories🙂.

For people considering applying, be sure you know about CCLCM's pretty unique curriculum and evaluation system. I didn't, but applied anyway and then ended up canceling my interview. It's not "bad," it just wasn't for me.

Another consideration is that all students at CCLCM get a full tuition scholarship.

First off, to each their own! I understand that! No hard feelings, right? 🙂
I can understand why some don't like CCLCM, but it works for me. Remember too, I am much, much older than many of you, and maybe I am looking for different things in my med school?

Dress code: It is literally attached to the #4 ranked hospital according to USN&WR and co-located with the research institute. Out of respect for the patients and family and professionals, I think proper attire is a reasonable expectation. I think its a small price to pay for outstanding and personalized education. Besides, at some point in your career, you can't show up in your PJs and flip-flops, why not start now?

Grading and evaluation: Life beyond medical school is not grade based, so at best you are delaying the transition away from grade based evaluation by a few years. Once again, works for me; not for everybody. In light of their published [post=7887155]match list[/post] and the Step scores I have personally heard, I think the program works wonderfully. They are pretty darn impressive results -- but caveat emptor: not for everybody.

i understand you feeling about the dress code, obviously it's something that works for you. from what i understand though, the dress code is enforced in the lab setting as well, and that strikes me as quite odd. plenty of other fine and highly ranked institutions which will have the privilege of rejecting us don't have such rules. like you say though, to each his/her own.

blacklisted more likely. You have to report acceptances on future apps. not to mention lying to an adcom isnt exactly + points in the ethics department.
 
doesn't matter what he/she chose to do, it's their life, it's not our position to judge them, i don't know their circumstances.
 
wonder if i should include in the PS my story of accidentally starting a fire as a high schooler...

i spent the part of the day reading, at the gym, and cooking one of my fav dishes mango chicken!!!! mmm

now im gonna sit back watch starcraft while eating and then start playing starcraft well into the night

yay video games

Haha I've been in school for like two weeks. So far I like microbio, love hearing about pathogens. Ecology is pretty simple, same with vertabrae (like bio 2 over again). Civic engagement, planning projects to work with community partners, and I started working with my new assistant (she's pretty cool, applying to med school now) and I gotta get a start on my thesis (I was told it will probably be around 40 pages...I hate writing 15 page papers 🙁, 40 pages?)
 
i am applying this year as well! but i havent really started my aamcas app or anything. how many of you guys have actually started and gotten into your PS. other than the PS, grades, and activities, there isnt much else is there?

im kinda concerned, because i want to wait until after i take the mcat to fill out my app (april 17)...enough time i hope...

Definitely. It's a great place, just not somewhere I'd be happiest for 5 years.

I took the MCAT around April of last year and didn't really start working on my PS until sometime after that. Start getting your LoR in order earlier than that, though.

how long does it take to get all my LOR into aamcas? i am still waiting for two more LORs which are from school, and then i need to get a few from the hospital i worked at and researched at.....a total of two science LORs, 1 non science, 1 research, 1 volunteer...im sure thats enough for most schools if not all
 
Yea, I'm working on my PS, I'm aiming to get one nonscience, 2 science, 1 personal (required by UCF I think), and 1 from my Honors program director

i wonder if jefferson would be okay with 2 science 1 non science and 3 personal...

instead of like 3 science 1 non science or something stupid like that
 
one of my friends applied last cycle....one of his professors from community college told him he can write his own LOR and the teacher would sign it....craaaazzy

haha, our's forces us to get to know the director (i.e. requires us to set up meetings with him atleast once a semester). I'm actually thinking of running for president or VP for next year.
 
but doesnt that take the validity of the letter away? if its a personal letter and the school is aware of it is another story, but lying so the school thinks a professor wrote all theese "amazing doctor-like qualities" about you is really bad. i hope people dont do that and cheat the system although i know it happens all too much

Haha, I've got that covered already, I just really like the honors program here, I've done a lot of work with it already and I think I can get some really cool things going

A few days ago, I walked in to my honors office to get more information about some honor society; the director looked at me and, with a skeptical and accusatory tone, asked if I had been actually been invited. That's how well they know me lol.

Seriously? Haha! Our director is trying to do everything he can so everyone gets to know everyone. I'm the event coordinator for the 2009-2010 year, and my next assignment is to schedule "fun outting" events. Anyone have any suggestions? So far we've talked about movies, bowling, and stuff like that, but I want to do more unique and different types of events

well I cant just make up anything, i write it and then send it to her to look it over. I think one of the reasons she's letting me do this is because her english isnt very strong and she doesnt want to give a ****ty letter because she cant articulate herself very well.

Yea, that is a good reason. I think it's fine as long as the professor looks it over and edits where they feel fit, etc...

Once AMCAS is open and your writers get the letters sent, it will probably take around 2 weeks.

Email the professors and ask if they are willing to meet with you. Explain the situation etc etc. Then at the end if they meet with you, ask if they feel they can write you a stong letter. I was in the same situation as you. I hadnt taken a non-sci class in 3 years. A few of my profs met with me, one said he couldnt write me a strong letter, but he would write it. The other said she understood the bind i was in and said she would write a strong letter. In the end, it ended up being one of my strongest letters.

Try to stay away from this situation. If possible. One of my teachers wanted me to do this, I just passed and thanked him.

They are somewhat flexible but when i applied last year, they required 4 letters for sure. As long as you get 4 chances are they will say its fine.
