Are you asian? =P

no, but i am in touch with my eastern side (there's only 2 restaurants in the area the serve bubble tea. when i try to order it other places the waiter gets giddy because i know what bubble tea is)

Yo, chillin in orlando 🙂 passed by the new ucf med school

mm bubble tea is really good,

I took a girl to a place once for a first date and we ended up getting kicked out cuz we were shooting tapioka balls at each other. but that was actually a good thing cuz once we got outside we realized we had more room to play lol Have u guys ever played the game tanks? where u have to shoot the other tank by choosing your angle and adjusting your power meter? It's even funner in real life with tapioka lolll seriously try it its freaking hilarious

I have an exam the morning after st. pattys 🙁 x 100000

i feel like this happened to me every year. luckily, halloween was always clear.

your professor will give you bonus points if you're still hammered when you take the test.

whats up in orlando?

Absolutely nothing haha! I'm visiting my sister for a week, but she's still got class (I'm actually going with her to her triq classes to translate what the professor says so she'll understand it haha) I got to study mcat and write a good chunk of my thesis and prepare for my presentation, then cruise next weekend! Bored now, listening to the killers. Anyone like 30 seconds to mars? Planning on going to their concert at the house of blues here.

feel free to contribute at any time. we should get a day time group and a night time group haha

Hey, there's an idea! I'm usually on here during the day while I'm at work. It helps me pass my day!

Sweet! This qualifies as "leadership experience" so I can put it in my AMCAS application. :meanie:

you can list me as a reference. IndianVercetti appointed me bouncer of this thread so it's a legit reference.

oh I am here friend, trying to cut down the hours online during this stretch.

you know how vercetti rolls
always cool as ice

I'm "studying," whatever that means nowadays.

IndianV, looks like you got competition. There's an indianjatt around.

I'm here! I'm here!

So I've been thinking, and this will depend largely on my MCAT score, but part of me is REALLY tempted to just apply to the 5 medical schools in Philadelphia. You can check my MDApps though I think I need to tweak it. My stats (MCAT notwithstanding, but I'm confident I will get an above average score) are competitive for all but UPenn, which will be a reach but I don't think it's beyond my reach, especially if I spank the MCAT. My EC's are pretty good, too. I'm going to gain some more volunteering starting at the end of the month and some day soon I am going to shadow a few different docs (that reminds me, I need to get on that).

It's just that most of our family (my in-laws retired upstate, but there aren't any schools within less than about 1 1/2 to 2 hours of them anyway) and our friends are here, and with kids I think it would be foolish to leave our support system behind. As a side note, one of my uncles is a mechanic who takes care of our car for next to nothing, we just have to pay for supplies.

It would take a significant scholarship, stipend, or a good job opportunity for my husband for us to consider moving for me to attend medical school if I were also accepted to one of the schools in Philly (PCOM included). My worry is that applying to medical school can be such a crapshoot, what if I DON'T get into any of the schools in the area? Then I'm boned for this year, and I'll already be 30 when I graduate if I get in for Class of 2015.

I know a lot of you are traditional applicants, and I think I'm the only one posting on this thread with a kid, but any thoughts anyone would care to share would be appreciated.

dude all of us might end up in philly. i've been thinking like that too, geekchick. i love center city.

but i mean then again i could be waiting til next year depending on what 5pm brings :-/

It took me a minute! I was like, "5PM... que?" Then I remembered you guys get your scores today. Good luck!

And yeah, I noticed a lot of Philly love around here. It's fun to think about how some of us will probably be in the same classes together in 18 months.

I think you just need to weigh the pros and the cons. What is more important - being close to your support group and maybe having to wait a year, or getting in now without a support group? Having a family limits your opportunities, but it doesn't mean you won't get in, you may just have to wait a little longer. And, worst case scenario - you don't get in this year, so you have a full year to make your app stronger. It'll happen when it is supposed to happen. :luck:

I think BWSTW gives one way to approach the situation. That you should decide the circumstances that work for you (staying in Philly), and let it happen at the time it happens (either this year, or the next, etc.) This is an entirely positive way of handling this, but I take a slightly different approach.

I try to remind myself that fate has a path for me, and the only thing I can do is give this process my 100% and maximize my chances for what was meant to happen to click. If I was meant to study medicine in a place I want, it will happen, yet if the only acceptance I get is from another state, so be it, that is what fate had in store for me. I guess as a result of this approach, I'm going all out and will be applying all over just to maximize my chances. I've always tried to adapt to my situations.

Maybe people on SDN are just 100x more confident than I am with regard to this applications process, but I'm not taking anything for granted. I'm not sure how you are assuming you are going to get an above average MCAT score. I have been taking MCAT practice tests, and currently scoring 30-31, and will be working to my fullest capacity, but I don't know how that guarantees me an amazing score on the 27th.

Best of luck! 👍

Daywalkers.... unite!

Hey I'm a daywalker! But also kind of a flake when it comes to message boards. I think I have like 10 posts total or something meager like that.
