Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
my intention is to walk in with full confidence. as my friend Salty has told me, I should read the verbal passages like i'm a harvard english professor.

yes, yes yes yes.

Salty knows best.

i 😍 salty, but to be honest...i didn't really read the verbal book.

this might make me a weirdo, but... most of the passages actually interest me. well, more than 50 percent anyway.

MEEEE TOOOOO!!!!! there was only 1 passage on 1/29's test that I was bored to tears by, and that was about governmental structure and how it's taught throughout history (talk about mixing heavy subjects: history of education of governmental structure). idk how i do well on VR (i got a 12). i would try to help, but...i just kind of read the passage closely (not slowly, just so i understand it) then read the questions and pick the answer that is closest to what I would answer. so, i guess my only advice is the same advice princeton review gave for the SAT verbal: read the question and try to form YOUR answer (i do it almost as i'm reading the answers--don't spend a lot of time on it, though, obvi), and, idk, i remember SAT books saying don't stop @ B if you think it sounds good because D might be right.

sorry that all sucks.

Alrighty, folks, it's been real, but I'm supposed to be up in 4 1/2 hours. Dammit. Later.

man you guys were early birds last night.

did you guys make flash cards or a formula sheet for the PS section?

Not yet, but I plan to at least memorize the most common formulas. I think there's a post somewhere around here or elsewhere on the webernet about the 20 or so physics formulas you should have memorized for the MCAT.

I've always felt like the MCAT physics is one where, if you understand the concepts, you can "derive" the equations in your head. I don't remember having to calculate anything major, actually. Know your essential, basic kinematics. But if you want to be safe, I do recommend memorizing everything.

Thanks guys. I just went through and made a formula sheet that I'll look over a few times between now and doomsday.

What sort of pace are you guys going with the EK package? Whats your strategy with it? I guess its a little late for me to be asking that, since I'm getting about done with content anyways, lol. I just read one chapter a night, three times a week and then the in-class exams for those three chapters on Sundays. How have you guys gone about it? I only have a few chapters left, then I have a month to hammer out my week areas, review notes, and take more practice tests.

advice i got off an MCAT thread:

right when you sit down, before you hit start (or during the tutorial, whichever) immediately write down all the physics formulas you remember. all of them. there is no rule against writing before the test actually starts (or during the tutorial) and it is so helpful to get thme all down there in front of you to use as reference during the test.

Except some test administrators WILL make you give away your paper...

oh. well, this didn't happen to me...and really? after the test starts, meaning the tutorial, they'll take your scratch paper?

They might not trust sociopaths with pen and paper. Someone in the room could get hurt.

or void your test if they feel like it. it's a stupid plan anyway, if you need to rush to vomit out all the formulae you can't recite off the top of your head, you didn't study enough.

Yep. Agreed.

whatever. i liked it. i did it for endocrin. and phys tests for names/formulae. it helped then. and as i said (typed), i was repeating advice given by someone in an MCAT forum.

Congrats, now you have to be the thread party-pooper!

JK.. congrats!
I am only asst. mod on the MCAT boards for now. I don't believe I have any obligation to be a buzzkill over here. 😛
...
Yet.

ETA: Also, this was my 1000th post. Dontcha feel special?

So a friend of mine... great guy super smart would want as my own doctor... just got rejected from our state school (and UCSF/stanford before that) with a 40R and 3.85BCPM from Yale. We think it's age discrimination (he was told by the A-hole VP of admissions that he was too old at one point.) Man I really don't like this school sometimes.. still debating if I'm going to bother applying.

What state school? It sounds like has to have gotten at least one acceptance.

I'm not gonna say just because I don't want to mess up his anonymity, but I bet you can figure it out if you look through my posts haha. I also don't wanna list the state school name in any of my posts because I may still apply even though I don't really like the school =\

But he really did apply kinda late/few EC's/only to two other schools (applying to UCSF and Stanford late is probably a bad idea...)

Just goes to show: numbers AND a great personality doesn't get you into med school. That's like two out of 5 hoops.

the guy who posted his picture in this thread is worried about his anonymity? haha i understand though.

I think he means his friend's anonymity. yeah, I guess you really have to look out for everyone when you post on the internet lol

yeah but what are the chances adcoms read every single post of every single poster then take the time to figure out who's SDN handle matches their application. if that's why it takes so long to get processed, well, then it all makes sense.

God I love being mean to these insecure pre-meds.

I think I am a good bully. :meanie:

It's much more likely that they'll search "University of xxxxx" and see what comes up. That's why I didn't want to put the name in. There's no way they're going to read through all 50 million pages of this thread otherwise.

no sleep for me. i'm gonna workout at 6 eat a big breakfast then nap for a couple hours

Ha!

I totally LOL'ed when you told that story, especially when you said it was PMSing. I thought, "Damn! I suppose my husband is lucky I don't maul and relieve myself on him every month."

Found a DO! and saved us from going to the 2nd page.

To shadow? Is there a website or something to look up ones to shadow that will write you an LOR for applying to DO? I know a few that I could shadow, but I don't know if some doctors have offered themselves up for it.
