So I totally meant to shadow this week and then forgot about it... yeah.. if anything keeps me out of a good number of schools, it's my lack of shadowing time. That, or I'll have to shadow a few docs in may between school getting out and applying.

That's what I'm going to have to do. I have NO time to shadow or even hospital volunteer (I have 80 clinical hours now). I found out I wouldn't be able to afford to go to my conference next week, but now my honors director offered to cover for it because he doesn't want me to miss out on such a good opportunity...I don't know what to do

i am not irish. happy ethnicity day!

boo don't take our day from us. What did we ever do to you but offer up some green beer, leprechauns, and Notre Dame football?

That's why Irish people have a reputation as heavy drinkers. . . that way we can navigate St. Patty's day without a problem. We train for this 🙂

Haha, nope. I have a big quiz tomorrow and I'm just now studying for it. Personally, I don't really like beer, and I'm not the partying type :-\

May 1st at 1:30PM I am going to take a massive brain dump.

:luck::luck:

curbs thanks for the love in the sweet 16 thread, i would've quoted you and all that marshmellowy goodness over there but i think sammich really hates it when people derail threads, especially hers.

2015 one love. lets go!

Congrats on the assistant mod-ship geekchick! Now I know who to bribe if I want things to get done around here... 😏 When did this happen? Have I really been away from 2015 that long?

Wait, I was getting paid!? I'll totally be here 10-4 again! I prefer cash by the way...

uh ohhhhhh...!!!

I dedicate this 1000th post to my parents, my friends and family, SDN, and of course the class of 2015.

🙂 I dedicated my 1000th post to the 2014 thread too. AND there was a lucky cat picture. I think they appreciated it...

Tuesday or Wednesday? Specifically, I'm an assistant mod for the MCAT forum. Hopefully that means I won't bomb it and shame myself. I'd feel like a dingbat if I got less than a 30 as a mod on the MCAT board.

Getting below a 30 is by no means 'bombing' the test, or shaming yourself. The key is to work hard, and do your best.

I'm pretty sure olemissbabydoc was a mod who got a 29.

yah i got a 29 now you make me feel bad haha 😛. So glad i dont have to think about such awful tests anymore 🙂

I just got my microbio exam back and did terrible (and I mean terrible, not premed terrible). I got A's on the first two exams, I don't know what happened this time. I feel stupid

Whatever, I got two more exams. I guess I just have to study even harder for them to get an A in the class (my other A's were low).

I'm sorry! I'm just thinking about ksmi, Vihsadas and SN2ed who are all MCAT mods and all got high 30s/low 40s, I think.

Also, a friend of mine who's an MS-4 at UPitt matched to his top choice residency today. Go T!

If it makes you feel better, I just bombed a calc test (and I mean really bombed) that's worth 30% of my grade.... well ****. 🙁

Also, I can't keep up with you people. When do you sleep? Clearly I'm the worst 2015-er ever.

Yay! I'm trying to figure out where my 4th year friends matched but they aren't updating their facebook statuses! :annoyed:

I know we kinda talk about this in other threads, but for our class specifically, how much is debt going to factor into your school decision?

Barring any possible merit scholarships, right now I would probably make the decision to go to the 2nd or 3rd cheapest schools on my list if I got in (the cheapest is not very enticing). I really hate the idea of going into ultra-gigantic amounts of debt for med school. If the military didn't have control over your career path, I'd be tempted to go HPSP. However, if it's still around, I may look into the Navy signing-bonus option after residency.. They pay some people >250k to sign up for like 4? or 6? years.

Debt is a major factor for me, especially since my state school is so expensive. I won't necessarily pick the cheapest, but I'd have to do a lot of thinking before I chose one of the more expensive schools on my list without some sort of aid.

A while back I got an e-mail about UChicago, and they mentioned having some sort of repayment plan, where they gave you $40,000 extra to stay in the area (or maybe just an underserved area in Chicago) for 4 years after graduation. Things like that get more appealing by the day.

I know a lot of people who have the attitude "don't worry about it, you'll make loads of money and pay it off anyway". While I wouldn't avoid medical school because of the debt, I'm really concerned with minimizing my loans as much as possible.

I think as you go through life you will always have problems to deal with. If your doing things right then the quality of your problems get better. Right now my "problem" is getting into med-school. If I'm lucky my next "problem" will be paying for it. That is the kind of quality "problem" I am hoping for.

Basically what I'm saying is that I will worry about it when the time comes. If I have a way of minimizing debt, then of course I will.

because i like to pretend i am a gangster. i intimidate those around me on the highway by blasting biggie. it is hard to translate that intimidation onto the internets with a persona such as lisa simpson.

perfect sunny day for this today!

Bastiges!

So my husband got a job interview invite today. It would be GREAT for him and for us. If he gets it, and he really enjoys it, I think I'll only be applying to the schools in the Philly area and possible UMDNJ-SOM, since it's close by. Depends on what I get on the MCAT, though.

i did it, don't worry hahahaha.

it's so funny to see my highway peers reactions when they hear the beat to "one more chance" and then see little old me behind the wheel.

haha i forgot you were an old man

i seriously would only do this if you're ok with not going to med school.

Why this attitude, bleargh? This is the second time you've said this exact same thing. My cGPA and most of my ECs are standard, my sGPA is pretty much flawless, I have a crapton of clinical experience and I'm also applying to one or two DO schools, so enlighten me.

I think he just means you'd be better off applying broadly, because that is the general consensus for everyone trying to get in to med school. You know that geekchick.

bleargh always comes off with a bit of a 'tude to me, but idk, i think he's just trying to not sugar coat his thoughts.
