Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My thinking is I'll take one or two a week up until the test. I also think I need to get my hands on some EK books.

The EK books are the best, HANDS DOWN. Their texts are the best texts, explains everything in understandable terms, great picture illustrations, and does not spend too many words on esoteric stuff the MCAT doesn't test on. Their practice problem books(EK1001 series) emulate the MCAT extremely well. I especially love how they start each chapter with standalone questions(for physics) that progressively build in difficulty, which really helps you to grasp all variations of a problem type. Their passages are a bit harder than the actual MCAT, not in the materials covered but more in the thinking involved, which really prepares you for the actual thing. Highly recommended.

OK then, I shall leave you to your protest.

All I ask for is an explanation. Why is a thread consisting of entirely premeds being moved to the "All-Students" forum?

And SDN was able to make a Class-Specific Discussion sub-forum in Pre-Allo, so why not just make a Pre-Allo Social subforum? As I'm aware, Pre-allo is the most populated and has the most hits out of any forum on SDN, so it might be worth to make a sub-forum. 👍

I'll mention it to the other mods. No promises though.

You teach for EK or something? :eyebrow:

Jk, I love them too. Bio is THE BEST but I thought their physics could have been stronger.

I actually teach for TPR, but my last class ended this week so I'm free to trash talk them now  But seriously, their Hyperlearning books are sooooo BS, it's got way more information than you need to do the MCAT.

no, i didn't report him, i couldn't care less, just sayin that i can see why he'd get banned.

I got the 101 Verbal and the 1001 Gen Chem today. They were the only ones at my store. I'm already about 120 questions into Gen Chem. I think that's probably my strongest subject but it can't hurt to really nail down the basics, plus I DO need some work with Red-Ox reactions and some solubility and pKa/pH stuff.

I REALLY want to get my hands on their bio book, but I think I'm going to have to order it, it's not at ANY of the B&N around here.

you know wuts awesome. I just have to do well on these finals and then i dont have to try anymore =D

Got a 37 on the practice test last night, which was amazing! Then I got a 32 on the one I took today. Still very good, but kinda disappointing after the one from last night. I'm not done my content review, though, and there were quite a few questions on it from stuff I don't remember at all. I took notes about what I don't really remember, though. I think I have to start cherry-picking what I review.

I found different videos to review from. This other guy is a lot more to the point, and I'm feeling time-crunched. I'm going to go back to the other ones for O-chem, though. This guy doesn't have videos for organic.

So 2015ers, now that you're getting all psyched for apps, where's everyone's dream school? I answered this before I applied, and it's funny to see how much has changed.

First off, I believe this will be my longest multi-quote, ever!

OK then, I shall leave you to your protest.

:scared: Oh.. I guess I hadn't seen his really bad posts. Was a colorful fellow, for sure.

I'll mention it to the other mods. No promises though.
Appreciated!

I used EK, as well. I think it caters more to the review-oriented learner than the learn-stuff learner.

yayyyy back in pre allo

We have risen up and overcome the man!

(ksmi pulled through and saved the day.)

1. You should be a super hero.

2. Dream school? Gosh.. I am not sure if I'll like Baylor, but it sounds good in theory. Duke, as well. Penn sounds pretty great, too. Harv, Brown, and Yale all also sound sweet. In the end, I will probably choose the least-expensive option if I get into multiple schools. This is with the exception of my state school (85% sure I'm not applying to my state school anyway) and only a couple others on my list (who I'd be happy to go to, but not for solely monetary reasons.)

2016er, but I'll bite anyway...

Vandy, Yale, and Cornell in Qatar....in reality I'd be very happy for Utah or Colorado. 🙂

Did your top choice change?

Haha, yes. It went from WashU to Baylor to Hopkins to wherever gives me the best financial aid. 🙂

Have you found out about financial aid from anyone yet? What's your favorite right now, finaid notwithstanding? More importantly, why is your favorite(s) your favorite? Those are schools I'm interested in, too and I'd like to hear your opinion =)

JHU gave me the worst finaid ever. 👎 And all money the same, I'd probably go to WashU. The choice between there and Hopkins would be tough, but I think east coast people are a bit harsher than midwest people, and I think I'd be better in that environment since I'm used to the whole southern hospitality thing.

maybe so, but WashU is not midwest. West coast is better too though 🙂

It damn well better be - This is probably the dumbest decision ever. The idea was for when more people come to SDN this summer for the application cycle, they will hit up the Pre-Allo forum, and then join our thread. With the way it is now, they won't see this thread, since new members hardly explore out of the pre-med forums. In all honesty, from what I was aware, I thought the moderators liked to preserve these Class social threads in Pre-Allo to prevent the outgrowth of other social threads. Why not keep the class threads in pre-allo as a location for premeds to socialize, and cut down on the remainder of social threads?

Look at the condition right now on the pre-allo forum. Despite all these drastic measures to transplant the class threads into All students, new social threads are still popping up.

dumbest decision ever. 👎thumbdown👎thumbdown

edit: If this really is an april fools, i really got punk'd
..You got punk'd..

:d

What about Tulane and that sweet, sweet 1/2 tuition scholarship they gave you?

MO may not be the "midwest" to some but after living there, it might as well be the south. Southern hospitality certainly applies there🙂. Its part of the reason i love that area, i think i need to move away from the coast😛.

Also as far as number 1 goes, like ksmi (and me and probably everyother person whos ever applied to med school), its 100% going to change likely. One thing i do recomend though is really look deep into programs curriculum, how M3-M4 year is set up etc. I really wish i did this before applying and didnt waste time applying to a lot of the schools i did. My biggest regret actually is i never applied to duke. With my mcat i had no chance im sure but duke has imo one of the most amazing/best curriculums in the country. I dont think anyone else does it the way they do and if i knew this before hand, Id have applied there and made that my number 1 hands down. And everyone applies to schools like drexel, gwu, gtown, BU, etc...These schools really take a hard look at before applying and wasting your money. Not to mention they are all very expensive and offer absolutely nothing in fin aid. I wish i never applied to these schools either🙂. But GL just thought id offer some perspective looking back

Current top choices: Penn, Stanford, & Columbia. When I was in high school, every year I had a new favorite university. As senior year rolled around, the frequency was every couple of months, lol.

Lately I've been trying to figure out which of the "top" schools are also "research heavy" -- I figured most of them were. Unfortunately, the grad student I've been working with and I probably won't have a pub by application season now -- seems like that kills my chances at the "research schools"?

You never know, man. Even the top research schools accept students without research experience (I don't think any school in the MSAT lists 100% for their accepted students with research experience). And it's not like you don't have research experience just because you don't have a pub.

having a top school in mind right now probably is just a recipe for heartbreak in the future.

You are probably right. Applying to medical school in general is an emotional process in my opinion.

Even better if they act more southern than midwest. But to me most states aren't southern. Just like FL, GA, AL, MS, and LA. I guess those could just be the "dirty south" and other states be the south, but MO definitely wouldn't be one of the others to me.

to me, any state that existed during the civil war, and fought on the other side is 'the south'

Do you have a dream school/top choice?
unfortunately, yes i do. i wish i didn't though.

Central and south Florida aren't very southern tho, only north Florida is more like the deep south.
