Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
letting nelson shoot the final shot of the game when you have gunslingers like lewis, carter, and redick is stupid.

Carter missed his freethrows, his nerves were probably shot or he was messed up after the minor wrist injury. But Rashard Lewis and Reddick are straight 3-point shooters.

haha you're crazy if you think carter's nerves were rattled. he's a professional for a reason. watch some highlights of VC's game winners.

That's true that he has hit some insaneeeeeeee game winners. But I'm personally not putting the ball in Carter's hand after he misses two free throws in a row especially when you have 2 other three-point shooters on your team.

i guarantee he stopped thinking about those free throws as soon as they were over. i'll let a proven clutch shooter take the final shot any day.

tbh i thought he missed the second one on purpose after he missed the 1st

Either way, I would take Carter before I'd take Nelson for sure.

its only day two and Im already lost in calculus. haha. quiz tomorrow. ****. :scared:

and I hate these new online components to courses. back in the day when I started undergrad (2001), this sort of extra busy work didnt exist. I miss those days.

Oak, did you like my lists of schools? cloud nine right? haha. a girl can dream can't she?😍

Not gonna lie to you Hoody, I don't have an MDApps (being a sophomore and all) and it wouldn't let me see yours.

I just assumed that your GPA was probably the main reason holding you back (due to remembering you mentioning that) and I realize that you are a nurse and have amazing clinical experience. You don't have research though if I recall, which can hurt you to big name schools.

What's your list though? I'd love to see it.

yeah Hoody, your mdapps didn't show up for me either when i clicked that link.

Oak - my profile ID #18846

MS - yeah, summer school. it started monday. I have calc 1 for like 4 weeks followed by calc 2 for four weeks. m-f, 1.5hrs. oh god.

Yeah honestly your app is kind've what I had expected, but you have insane clinical and awards. The one thing is the GPA could use work, but I don't think it will hold you back a ton if you kill the MCAT or if you apply broadly and to schools that are not Harvard and Yale lol.

I like the MSU being on your list, I think you should add Wayne State too especially if you get 32-33 on your MCAT. Although MSU has that Grand Rapids location now that is sweeet, so maybe it will be the better option by the time we apply.

Pretty legitimate that you have a 4.0 post-bacc gpa, I haven't recorded a 4.0 in any semester yet. My highest is 3.95 and second highest is 3.89. My lowest is a 3.4 and a 3.51 (FML why did I screw around so much those semesters).

My gpa does suck. especially my undergrad. I did very well in my sciences (all A's and B's) but not so well in math (two Ds, two Cs). I have to Fs in nursing theroy classes that I had to repeat (and got Cs. haha). and what kills is that I have a TON of credits for like 30% dont count because they were pass/fail. I even have a 12 credit P/F course. GAAAAHHH.

I probably killed my chances even more by not doing a formal post bacc at a more well known univerisy or SMP program. oh wellz. I only need one (and I probably wont be getting that from my list).

this vince carter needs to come back now

I have it on my list bc its the alma matter of someone very close to me. they really liked it. except for the library. and the meal card plan. maybe those things have changed in 10+ years?

hi hoody :hello:

i don't think you killed your chances by doing an informal post bacc...it looks like you are on the right track
i just finished taking some courses at harvard extension to try and give my GPA a little boost...i'm hoping it helps :xf:

you'll be fine.

i just watched a hip replacement video. pretty standard, pretty fast (less than an hour), and seemingly easy. another tally for ortho.

Hey MissB!

ooooOOooO Harvard. I actually looked at that program. I would've totally gone for it but I have a pretty good job and I was really naive when I restarted all of this (school). SDN, the good and the bad, has really helped me. I have a friend who is an attending and I showed him SDN. He was blown away by the amount of information we are privey too. He said he would have killed for SDN back in day (the dinoaur age ...okay, not really, mid to late 90s).
you'll be fine.
thanks. im talking the calc to prove that I can do math (I think). I figured it would be better than retaking college algebra and stats.

if thats the only reason do NOT take calc 2. calc 2 will give you nightmares.

I agree, I got a 2.4 in Calc II and I had a 5 on my AP Calc I exam. Even if I were to retake Calc II I would probably only get a 3.5. For some reason Calc II is notoriously hard at my school, but even if it was easier I still would consider it an unnecessarily hard class. Calc I should suffice for most Math requirements for med-schools anyways.

yup, it's a good program, and cheap! and yea, i've learned SO much from SDN that i didn't know before...it's a great resource

is it tough to get into MissB? I dont think I am competitive for most formal post bacc programs....well, the more prestigious ones that have the most impact anyway.

at the time I figured it would worth it to just take the classes at my state school versus spending a lot of money on a program that may not have much more weight than the school Im at now. If I had a chance at Columbia, Harvard, Hopkins, Bryn, etc., I probably would have gone that route. Those programs are probably (more) worth the $$$.

Im also banking on my linkage to UWash via WWAMI.

I was gonna tell you that its probably a lot easier for me to get a 4.0 as my school runs on the 10 point A/B/C/D/F system. no plus/minus. the only college within my school that runs on the 7 point system is the college of education (93-100 A, 85-92 B, etc).

i don't think you understand what calc 2 will do to you. that was easily the hardest class i took in college.

the way i did it was i signed up for whatever course i wanted and just paid the tuition fee...i wasn't interested in getting sponsorship.
if you are talking about being part of the actual health careers program, i heard it is not that difficult to get into, but there are still people who get rejected. going through the threads in the post bacc forum, it seemed like a number of people do get in.

hope that helps!

oh no, I agree. Calc 2 will probably kill me. I guess I'll look for another class to take. Besides the med pre-reqs, Ive already taken anat, phys, patho phys, general micr, med micro, pharmacology, cell bio, genetics, med ethics and an upper division zoology class on hiv/aids. pretty much all A's, a few B's. my weak areas are clearly math.

I just mean overall, its probably easier for me to get a 4.0 cause there are no plus/minus things going on.

ballerrrrrrrrrrr. sup yo.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend calc II, by far my worst class in college.

Umm, you've taken every science class imaginable lol. Maybe endocrinology, immunology, etc. Also take some bs classes for ur gpa like Medical Terminology, Medical Ethics, etc. That is if you're not doing anything else and you don't mind spending the money to raise ur gpa the .01-.03 points.

im not really letting a lot (read anyone) at my work know about my med school plans. it would just complicate things. i have no shadowing. so far i've asked two docs, separately, who are both my good friends, and they both laughed at me and told me just to say i did. 🙄

🙁

add biochem. and this is exactly what I would be doing all of next year while waiting for the 2016 app cycle. and I am trying to stick to upper division courses that are either either 3500-4000 level or 5000+ (graduate) level.

I was thinking in the fall I would do immunology, graduate level pharmacology, and graduate level health assessment course (for nurse pracs)...though that one is P/F (god Im like that kid that slaps his girl around. I cant seem to learn my lesson for P/F classes :meanie:). Spring would be virology, and maybe a upper level physiology course (gets old after all the phys Ive taken). I do not believe my colleges offers an endocrine course (wtf).

I have like 150hrs worth of credit. my gpa creeeeeeeps.

When I'm at the hospital I don't ever mention that I want to become a doc. Even at school, I've kinda stopped telling people I'm pre-med and I just tell people I'm a biochem major, of course people ask what are you going to do with that? I mention there being a lot of options, of course one is graduate school. I wish I wouldn't have told anyone, not even my parents, so that it would all come as a huge surprise. Oh well, I'm sure it'll be exciting enough when I get that first acceptance, I'm just scared for my liver that night.

Yeah, my mom laughed at me when I told her I needed to shadow because everyone and their mother in my family are different types of docs.

So apparently LSD stays in the sac around your brain or whatever and so when you crack your neck apparently you get a trip if you have had enough LSD to build up... that is interesting.

Yeah, you're really going to have to depend on that upward trend. If you can get to 3.5ish and you have a 33+ on the MCAT I would say you have really high chances just based on your experiences.

If not at 3.5 I'm still sure you could have a decent shot with a baller MCAT, but realistically you will be prescreened at the big name schools.

Maybe have your "friend" pull a few strings at MSU for you? Actually, I wonder if doctors can get their kids or their friends into the med-school or at least an interview or something for their alma moder (have no idea how to spell that).

specialty?

pediatric genetic disorders and dysmorphology and prenatal counseling...any good?

im also waiting on an interview for neurosurgery, but that one's going to take like a month, which i don't have time for

A friend of mine has a father who is a neurosurgeon, the friend just gave me his dad's cell instead of actually talking to the father for me. I'm pretty nervous to actually call up this guy and be like, "hey I went to highschool with your son now I'm pre-med please let me shadow you. " Hopefully he's cool with it.

neurosurgery FTW!!

the hottest guy I ever knew was from sri lanka. he was my partner in that hiv/aids class. I totally earned him an 'A' too.

oakland, are you referring to my cGPA or sGPA? I dont think I'll ever get my cGPA to 3.5!

i wish i could do the neurosurgery, but how i guess i will do the peds one for now and then come back to neuro later on during my app cycle just to get a good experience

sounds good. sounds like you'll be learning a fck ton.

haha yeah should be interesting i guess

anyways, i have a quick question guys

whats the difference between r and r^2 in statistics?

its been a while but i think r is the correlation, and r squared is the variablity. something like that. i need to go to sleep. night night.
