Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I can cook and bake, I was thinking about making him a giant hamburger cake (since ever since he left that's all he's wanted). We could go to a spa, if the doctor says his shoulder isn't too messed up he'd probably love a deep tissue massage. Maybe we'll drive to the keys...I'm all excited now 😀

Dr. Grumpy's blog is hilarious

yeah. I was gonna make a pie for my boy (his bday is this weekend) but then he pulled tonight. so, um, no.

After texting another nurse regarding some baby chickens, I found out that he's actually working the ICU and has a guy hemorrhaging.

whatever. I'll think about the pie.

that sounds good 🙂
whatever you decide, have fun!!

I just found these (on my sisters computer) and thought some of you might find them interesting. She had a class project on "Sensatia" (using color to set a mood) and went for a medical theme of nurse, patient, and doctor. She took two pictures of herself and one of my bf to alter. I thought it was neat that she digitally added all of the medical garb. Sorry I couldn't make them any smaller, she her computer is set up weird.

peace out peeps, got to finish the work before i pass out

Howzit homies?

This lab work I'm doing is killing me. Just got home late again and have no energy to study. Oh well 🙂

SMP = Special Masters Progam. Sorta like a super formal bost bacc. Some programs grant certificates, others degrees. Some programs have linkages to med schools. i think the difference between Post Bacc and SMP is that SMP kids have taken most or all of the pre reqs and/or the MCAT before entering the program.

B is in a pretty good program. He's definitely gonna be a doctor.....unless he makes a sign of his avatar and whips it out at interviews when people say dumb stuff.

Plans for the summer B? Besides primaries, secondaries and interviews I mean??

And good morning MissB. I have another Calc quiz in about an hour.. 👎

haha oh i know what an SMP is, i was just asking which one he was in...i should probably edit that

and good morning to you too hoody! good luck on your quiz! :luck:

Hey all! Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. I myself am awaiting my MCAT scores :scared: and trying to get myself to finish my PS.

Congrats Bleargh!

i just got an interview for a research position at georgetown! yay!

I went through the schools list and added every school I thought I'd be competitive at (and had interest in) that excepts a decent amount of oos... now my list has hit 30. When I think of what all the secondaries will cost me it makes me want to trim that list down... but at the same time I'm from CA...

Edit: maybe I'll go through the list and take out any school that doesn't have at least 1 good sports team haha j/k

Like I said above I've been considering cutting down my school list and I decided to look into the "difficulty" of some of the secondaries. I thought some of you may find this list interesting in regard to the length of the secondary app essays. The schools in the beginning of the list have no secondary essays:

NYMC
Drexel
Mayo
Rochester
MCW
Indiana University (no secondary)
SLU (optional essay)
Vermont (optional essay)
University of Wisconsin (optional essay)
Penn St. (very short)
GWU (very short)
Emory (short)
Wake Forest (2 essays, 3-5 sentences each)
Creighton (2 essays, 250 words each)

Feel free to add/correct/fix schools on this list. I made this by going through the prompts on SDN from last cycle.

30 is fine for a cali applicant whos not a 3.8+ 35+ mcat person. I applied to 43 but nevermind my idiotic decision haha. If i were you and you can afford it id apply to 30 assuming you arent applying to only like the top 25 and 5 safeties😛. Without seeing your list only thing id say is i assume you are applying to schools like: BU, drexel, nymc, gwu, gtown, temple, etc. AKA the schools that every person and their mother applies too. If all of those are on your list i would highly recomend removing a few of them. Honestly i would recommend almost no one apply to BU, gwu etc unless its your number one.\

Also not all "optional" essays are optional if you know what i mean. I would say UW madison might fall under that category. Or at the very least you should be able to write some interesting things there. Btw you should apply to UW if you can actually see yourself there rhino 😛

have you decided what school you will be attending?

MissB! Congrats!!! 😎

I have no research. 🙁

I definitely didn't apply to a ton of the top schools... my list is mostly mid-tier and fits my stats very well. I included BU, Drexel, gwu, & g-town (although I have really considered removing all of them). Didn't include the others. I am applying to UW & mcw... I have never lived anywhere cold so I probably don't know what I'm in for there .

dude uw is freakin sweet. I so wish i could have attended there but i had to give up my acceptance. If i was single id be there right now. youre gonna be in for a treat if/when you get an interview, and you have a great chance at one i think and for your sake remember that optional essay you HAVE to write something. Especially with your background it should be easy 🙂

drexel is fine id leave it, I would def not apply to BU or gwu. Replace those schools or just save money. Gtown is kinda a coin flip if you want to add it.

43? 😱

have you decided what school you will be attending?
yes i did. I decided on one school and am waiting on only 1 WL to pan out. But for the most part yes im done🙂. and while i did 43 (actually i think 47? i forget) it was all free so i went crazy haah...looking back still a waste of time though.

free? Do you know something I don't know?
hospital i volunteered at and a few other places gave me 1k to apply to schools. All secondaries were free since i had FAP. So FAP + free money to apply made everything just about free.

Dude. the school specific threads are up for this cycle!

aww...i don't really have much research, that's why i'm looking now for this coming year lol

Thanks for the info Elijah. It is hard to know what some of these schools are like (glad uw is cool). I'm afraid I'll go on an interview and say "what the f--- was I thinking applying here?" haha. Maybe I will remove BU (just wanted to see what all the fuss was about) and gwu (figured since I applied to gtown then I might as well).

I plan to apply to every MD/DO school short of a handful. I need to though. I have been told I am being way over ambitious when it comes to filling out secondaries, etc. for that amount of schools.

oh, and how was your quiz hoody?
no quiz. the prof apparently forgot a folder which contained yesterdays graded quiz and today's quiz. so no official grade today and two quizzes tomorrow. 👎

I got a headache just thinking about filling out that many apps 😱

Some of those schools might have lowish stats, but they get like a billion applicants so the way they select is very random, and applying extremely early is crucial. Also, if you're applying to a ton of schools, try to get an early start on secondaries, I think schools like it if you send in your secondaries soon after you receive them. I tried to get around it by applying in batches. Your list of short secondary/no secondary schools is about right, I'd add that SUNY Upstate and Vandy have little to no secondary before granting an interview as well. You can check out my mdapps profile(18155), the schools I applied to the earliest were all short/no secondary schools and/or schools that prefer early applications. I didn't bother with the likes of BU, GWU, Drexel, or Georgetown. The only high applicant ones I applied to was NYMC, and that's only because I'm a reapplicant there.

You'll probably like every school you interview at. The only school that didn't have impressive facilities was SUNY Downstate. BU rejects like crazy and rejects very fast, ala Mayo. Mayo will take your $100 application fee and reject you the next day. They also have very random admissions standards. They look for "interesting" character more so than stats and academic accomplishments(Mayo, that is).

its so lame. i don't have ANY schools on my list...none until i have an MCAT score :/

i think im going to go through the MSAR book and just pick out some safties and oos-friendly schools for now so i can make sure to apply on june 2nd (i get my score june 1st)

pumped for my interview tomorrow!

finally got my appetite back!
