This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Cool. We good luck to everybody.

On submission date, I was working so I couldn't submit at 8am like some others. They got theirs verified in like 1-2 hours and it took me like 6 days since I submitted at 8pm. Verification time varies.

damn what if i submit by the end of the week, will it make much of a difference?

ok yeah but the longer u wait the longer it takes to get verified, so hopefully i can finish this essay and activities by the end of the week

ah what a lame memorial weekened

Not a fan of Dio? :slap:

No, sir. Not my cup of tea. Just didn't get into him and back when I used to listen to that stuff I felt you had to pick either him or Ozzy, couldn't like both. Just like the classic Elvis vs. Beatles camps.

That's cool. I guess if you're a huge Black Sabbath fan you do have to only pick one.

I love Ozzy's solo stuff and Dio's solo stuff, but not any Black Sabbath.

Working so hard on my PS. On revision 8 at this point. One reader said that I strayed too far from directly showing why all of these experiences would make me a good doctor/are why I want to be a doctor. Trying to reframe some of my stuff back toward that original goal.

:luck:

Do you have any safeties on your list? What state are you in? Sorry, just wondering. You have great stats and the top heavy list probably won't matter that much for you, but I just don't see any safeties at all unless you're from CO.

Here's something to enjoy for all you Ozzy fans... recently he scared fans in a wax museum who thought he was a statue. Hilarious.

How is everyone doing? One more day until June 1st!

Well, I'm pretty much not anonymous on here, so I don't mind answering that question. I'm in NV and have been for 7 years. I have the ability to apply to U of CO as a CO resident and I will be able to get in-state tuition by the time I would matriculate there (we have triple checked this with their fin aid dept). U of CO is def. not a safety because they very very very very strongly prefer non-trads. I love the school, but this factor means it'll probably be difficult for me to get in.

I would like to re-add U of NV as a safety, but they may actually insta-reject me 'cuz the fact that I don't want to go there may have gotten around and because I am reporting CO residency on AMCAS.

As for safeties, I don't really know what else to add. All the schools on my list are places I feel like I would like to attend. I can't apply to any of the other UC's really (they're even more CA-selective) and UC's aren't safeties in the first place. Lots of the "safety" private institutions are so expensive that I wouldn't want to attend, as are some of the "safety" state schools.

Maybe this sounds cocky, but right now I'm afraid of having too many schools of any sort. I've always figured that my stats should get me interviews at most places and then hopefully it'll be fit and $$ from there.

:luck: So close!

Yet so far away! hahahaha. Tomorrow I'm gonna spend all day going back over amcas, esp the work/activities section (I'm afraid I left stuff out) and lots more work totally refining the PS. Gotta cash some of my bonds tomorrow to pay for the applications, as well.

That doesn't sound bad. You'll be good. 👍

I mean, I didn't apply to one my in-state schools that I was almost sure to at least get an interview at because I just couldn't live in its crappy location for 4 years. So I kind of know where you're coming from. You have a good chance of getting into all of those schools, just rock the interviews.

Hey Flow, I think your stats are awesome and you probably will get in to one of the top 20. I thought I remember you saying that your clinical was kinda weak though (your words not mine). I think especially at the top schools ECs play an even bigger role. If you are not 100% your ECs are where they should be then it would definitely be a good idea to throw in a few safeties.

If I am off about the EC/clinical thing... maybe I was thinking of someone else... and you should disregard and carry on with your bad azz app 🙂

The intro is a bit long, but this is one of his more popular songs. It rocks if I do say so. It is a bit corny, but that is why it is so awesome.

Haha, back when metal was all about fantasy and all these crazy things. They were all LOTR nuts, along with Zep, Iron Maiden, etc.

Nice find.

At work (yay for holiday pay!). no patients here. earlier this morning my only patient for the last two days went into torsades and eventually vfib...sent to another facility.

Any chance they'll cancel you and send you home? Or would you rather sit and post on SDN and soak up the holiday pay? 😉

haha. I wish! no I definitely have to stay here in the event of a transfer from the general med/surg floor or admission from the ER (but neither of those are going to happen!). And we monitor all the (long range) tele's.

I really wish I would have been around when all the action went down though. lately Ive been thinking about double boarding in cardiology and pulmonology...but that's probably because I am mostly exposed to these patients at work.

I think I'll just study some math 🙂mad🙂 and play with my application.

Also, I want my bughumping MCAT score.

ETA: I'm pretty much done my personal statement. Blah. A pox on the personal statement. I may change the wording a few more times before I submit but this is it.

If you want any random feedback from a no name pre-med I'm your man. I am editing a paper, so I'm in gear. I'm a tutor for English, so I do have some credentials. 😉

I hate writing.

I hate this personal statement crapola.

Rawr.

Ugh, I know. I'm trying to draft that and get together this material for my advisor's composite evaluation. On top of that should be working on my thesis. So really need to manage this time carefully and efficiently but I want to make sure I submit "early".

I'm ready to click submit on Tuesday!

I used to hate the idea of writing my PS.

Then I decided to treat my PS like it was my only chance at admission, just like a person with a low GPA thinks a high MCAT is his only hope. Now I feel like it's a challenge or a game.

As Leonardo DiCaprio says in Inception,
I think I found a way home, and this last job, that's how I get there.

I used a professional editor for my PS. I recommend using one if you have the money.

Been through that already lol. Yeah if I could put the same effort in my PS right now... that'd be wonderful.

You can do it.

It's the last thing you have to do, think of all you put in to get near the finish line. This is the last job that gets you home.

I can't imagine doing that, but I am also curious about the cost. Although I feel pretty comfortable with my PS already...

Almost ready! Just a couple of activities to add and then finalizing my school list. Another once over of the PS and I'll be done. Although I'm not sure I want to be part of the rush on Tuesday...

I guess I'm just feeling a little intimidated. And its not the writing part that I'm worried about; I fancy myself a good writer. At least, others say that. Its just getting together my ideas right now or deciding what I want to focus on. Been too much planning my attack and not carrying it out at the moment.

I used EssayEdge, it costs ~$140. I thought my PS was already good, but they definitely streamlined it and improved its flow a lot. This was after already having my career services center and several friends edit it.

Does AMCAS tend to lag on June 1st?
