Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think the PS is about being a real person more than an amazing writer.

Besides, the more outside help you get, the more different you will seem in your PS compared to interviews/secondaries.

Original/Real > skillful/adroit

I felt after I used the professional editor, it was still my voice in my PS. Most of the editing is just re-wording in order to make things sound clearer i.e. grammar and diction changes.

That doesn't sound bad. You'll be good. 👍

I mean, I didn't apply to one my in-state schools that I was almost sure to at least get an interview at because I just couldn't live in its crappy location for 4 years. So I kind of know where you're coming from. You have a good chance of getting into all of those schools, just rock the interviews.

We'll see what happens. I would be happy to go to any of the schools on my list and I decided that if I didn't get into any of 'em, then medicine wasn't truly meant to be. I've done all I can to be a good applicant. with the exception offff....

Hey Flow, I think your stats are awesome and you probably will get in to one of the top 20. I thought I remember you saying that your clinical was kinda weak though (your words not mine). I think especially at the top schools ECs play an even bigger role. If you are not 100% your ECs are where they should be then it would definitely be a good idea to throw in a few safeties.

If I am off about the EC/clinical thing... maybe I was thinking of someone else... and you should disregard and carry on with your bad azz app 🙂

This. I have my shadowing covered now (it was fun for the most part), but my clinical XP is definitely on the overall low end in terms of longevity and sheer hours. I totally agree that a lot (most) of the "top" schools take EC's super serious, since everyone with good grades and stuff applies to 'em. As they say "we could fill our class with 4.0/40's, but we're looking for more than that."

For serious. I'm going nuts. If it's not up before I leave work on Tuesday I'm going to freak the F out.

I'd be prepared to go nuts. I prescribe chill pill 500mg q 30 mins on score day =)

starting to freak out now lol. after a reread, my PS doesnt seem like its all that

I think my PS sucks to this day, you just have to realize at some point theres nothing you can do and you will likely never love it. Just finish and leave it be. I went from liking it a lot to semi liking it to thinking its awful 😛

Word. I am not going to let the PS bother me.

Haha, I finally had to decide I was just going to leave it. Also, I know it doesn't have to fill up all 5300 characters, but I'm still nervous that mine's a little short.

Good point! I think they're right - after you submit the AMCAS you should really not look at it unless you have to.

got an e-mail today that amcas received a LOR from interfolio.... pretty surprised considering it is a holiday. Either someone is working today or it is set up to be received automatically. 👍

Not really. Just sick of not knowing, you know? Though I'm terrified I'm going to somehow have a 7 or something in verbal.

You would think that they would have made an extra effort to release the scores before the first day you can submit... very inconsiderate 😛

I think you are ready to interview... demonstrating ownership & integrity haha

ahaha i wish u were on the adcom board

watched lovely bones last night....i feel like the book would have been better the film was ehh

Side effects of a chill pill include: unusually high tolerance for sitting on the couch, long periods of television viewing, lack of interest in amcas & SDN, frequent cravings for snack foods, increased patience when dealing with administrators & bureaucrats, avoidance of social situations involving pre-meds, and... an awesome MCAT score.

Have you read the book? The first chapter makes me sick.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but it's on our Netflix queue. I've heard I'm going to be disappointed after the book, but I want to see for myself. I know a lot of the more graphic stuff is omitted.

I believe it b/c class of 2015 is awesome like that.

Good name 👍, alternatively you could have called it the "18 places I'd like to go, and the rest I wouldn't be caught dead at" 😀

I'm starting to like the idea of NV again (cuz it's so cheap), but I'm not sure if I can apply as a CO resident without getting instantly rejected. And it's entirely possible that they've heard me say bad things about the school... hahaha.

next movie on my queue is the men who stare at goats

anyone seen it?

NV takes so few oos, and the ones they do probably come from WICHE, right? However, if you go to that school and have been in state for a while that probably qualifies as having "strong ties." I think cost is a legitimate reason to attend a school over one that is considered more "prestigious." Besides, you may find out that the school that is more prestigious isn't as good of a fit as you thought... you won't know until you actually go there and interview.

If you think word may have spread about your opinion of the school, if you're asked about it at interviews you call the rumor mongers bold faced liars 😛. Besides NV would be lucky to have you (that's the attitude you should walk in there with).

At first I was like, yeah, I need this. Although, I already have the bolded symptoms. I'm just a neurotic fatass...

I approve. 👍

The prospect of being $350,000 in debt after residency, versus being debt-free.

Yep, almost all have residencies in WICHE or on the east side of the Sierras. If asked, I would say that I am always willing to reevaluate my opinions (because I am). I don't know if that attitude would fly though.. they really eat up the whole "I'm acting like it's really unlikely you'll accept me" attitude; they talk about it all the time at med school previews and stuff.

That made me laugh

You also have the awesome MCAT score too, don't forget to bold that one next time 🙂

hopefully i didnt force any lol

Nice! I have 11, too! =)

PS is down to 4750 characters but I think it's making real improvement, went over it with my mom, which really helped; I hadn't actually talked it over with anyone in person yet.

Also, this was my 1500th post!

i really feel like moms can be good advice lol. the only problem is that they know you too well so they can make the proper assumptions, something the adcom might not always be able to do

I wish I had taken my mcat earlier. Im a decent standardized test taker and Im not overly intimidated by this test. July 17th is going to kill my application. Everything will be ready early...but my scores obviously wont load until late August. I keep having seconds thoughts about applying this cycle.

it wont be so bad as long as your transcripts are verified as well as you do the 2ndaries before you get them. They will all be on sdn so ideally you would be getting your 2ndaries in and turning them in one day or so later. It still sucks but at least its a way to somewhat close that gap as most students do not pre write and take a few weeks or more to do them.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one. You have a great app. Unless you blow the PS or are completely spastic during interviews, you should have your pick of some much better schools. and IMAO, you've worked hard, you've earned it. Do not sell yourself short

...and I have a feeling you'll get some free money anyway.

Funny story - I'm all ready to submit my PS, and I send it to one of my friends to get some feedback. They tell me they really like it, especially one of the little anecdotes I put in there. That's their favorite part?

The catch? I actually sent them the wrong version of my PS, and that story's no longer in there. Now I'm trying to decide whether to put it back in. PS editing the night before submission = terrible idea.

i just looked at my PS for the first time in a couple weeks. Made a couple changes, and I think I like it... maybe not. haha

Oh man, that's tough. Try not to get too stressed. Hey, if you need to work on it for another day or two, its not the end of the world. Good luck!

I wouldn't worry too much, although there's always that backup plan where you apply to you absolute faves now and then apply to a full list next year?

Totally agreed... Trying to finish up editing right now and just becoming less content as I go. But I think I'm about to hit the point where I say "it's as good as it's gonna get."

hey for the coursework, what do we do with AP classes? my friend said to just add the ones you actually got credit for and nothing else

is that true?

also, for the future coursework, how accurate does it have to be, and can we just put relevant coursework like BCMP classes?
