Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have a confession to make guys, I have 6 secondaries for the past 2 weeks, and I have only written 4 sentences combined. I always sit down to do them and just end up filling out the easy information portions and not the essays! My AMCAS hasn't been verified so I'm always like what's the point?
I do this with like all my secondaries. I still need to do the Yalie essay, everything else for yale is GTG. Same with baylor, I think.

Yea but you're already complete at 6 schools and have an interview invite!

Flow you and I have similar stats so I was wondering why you decided to apply to U Nevada, Ohio State, U Virginia, and U Colorado? I'm looking to add more broad schools to my app but was wondering why you chose those school specifically

IS, safety-withdraw due to changed prereq's, good school-might withdraw due to stuff, IS, in that order.

translation: even for ppl with great stats, med school applications are a hellish, nerve-wracking crapshoot which necessitates applying to a broad range of schools.

And for ppl with stats like mine, we just try not to think about it at all. And try to refrain from killing ourselves if we don't get in even on the second try.

Flow (or Rate), how can you be IS for nevada AND colorado?

Just saw inception. I give it a 7 out of 10. It was good but I wasn't blown away.

Yes sir your translation is spot on. But you also should note that I don't want to be $300k in debt.

Luck and happenstance. Hard to explain. I didn't report AMCAS as both, but I essentially get the privileges of both.

No spoilers!! I wanna see that this week. Been looking forward to it for months.
yo tambien! everyone is talking about it and I don't want it ruined!

Claro que si!

Como estas, amigo?

Me siento frustrado con mi tesis! Estaba distraido todo el tiempo recientemente.

I think I'm lost in translation :ninja:

haha

No problems. Admittedly, my Spanish is really rusty so I had to look up "distracted" lol and I probably shouldn't have used the imperfect tense either, but I guess I'm imperfect so why not.

Was asking how are you? And said that I'm frustrated over my thesis, and I've been distracted all the time recently.

Icebreaker: New or Used (car) for going into MD school? (semi-tight budget)
We have a used car right now, which we will probably be keeping. If, however, we could afford a newer used car, and probably a minivan, i'd be all about it.

I wanted to make some sort of pun, maybe about tomarrow = to marrow...like bone marrow or something...but... 👎 Not happening, and everyone is probably thankful for that
I tried, too. Don't feel bad. 🙂

Yeah, at thie rate, with everyone and their mom raving about it, I don't think it could possibly live up to my growing expectations.

I have to bang out a Why Temple? essay today.

That's what I thought you said, because that's what the internet told me, but I wasn't sure lol. I'm well and I know the feeling. Lots of HW to do... hw.. always and forever.

You'd think that, but you'd be wrong. I'm hella boring irl

😱:scared:😱:scared:
I have a tendency to bring out the non-boring in people.

Flow man you're scaring everyone, I'll talk to you. Your taste in cars is terrible
:laugh::laugh:
Awesome.

I am so sad I missed all of this insanity last night🙂 I stopped in for a brief moment because something woke me up, but then I went back to sleep.

Thanks!

Drat! Foiled again! also, ppp is gonna be like the new currency of 2015 jtlyk.

postsperpage/currency

Damn.. I can't rest until we overtake 2014~
!
not gonna happen :meanie:.

well a decent used car if you had to put about 2 grand down (assuming you are buying from a dealer and financing) would likely run you in the area 9k or so (150/month for 5 years). A new car you would be paying about (230/month for 6 years). If you go private party you could get something pretty good for 5-6k or so, if you were on a budget. You could def go cheaper and still find something but it would be around the 100k mileage mark. Both examples financing are based off my last 2 cars which i got a used 04 and a new 2010. If you are going to finance i would go new, i hate buying used cars and wouldnt do it again. If you are looking to go cheap and trust private party i would go that route. 5-6k can get you a lot. The thing for me is i worry about getting some pos car private party and theres no way you would really know. I know nothing about cars and its a pain to take cars to have them checked out at a mechanic...so i just never bother.

.... that was one of the strangest things I have ever read here....

:hello:

LMAO at flow (or rate)...i'm sad i missed that, but i seriously would've just lurked anyway :ninja:

Good point. Right now we're dropping down payments on my used car to fix it, so I wanna shy away from the "gonna break down just as often." segment... Right now I'm at the uncomfortable point of ~15k (depends how much I save, if I can go 20 I'll be a lot happier.) You can get some nice used for 15, but I don't know what sort of reliability comes with a 4-6 year old car @ 50-60k miles, but the new cars for 15 are a bit too anemic for me.

Granted my family is full of crazy bargain hunters, but I bought my 2006 Corolla with 30K miles for less than 15 and it's been absolutely wonderful so far. No problems whatsoever, knock on wood.

honda and toyota all day.

👍

I was just saying that after my current car, I will always be a Honda owner.

He has 119,000 miles on him (he is 4 years old) and ZERO problems. I abuse him so much. I off-road in a really mean way, and forget to put oil in him, and he is fine.

Cake mix is engineered to withstand a lot of screw ups. You can add too much oil or forget the water and it will still bake up pretty well. I call my Honda the cake mix of cars.

honda and toyota all day.

My current car is an old Lexus. Kinda reliable but a PITA to fix when it breaks.

Not a huge fan of modern toyo tho. Might be willing to drive the new model RAV4 + V6, but that's the exception to the rule. Honda is aight. Same deal. Low torque annoys me tho. Especially after driving over 4 mountain ranges and back last week lol.

But beggars can't be choosers...

i love nissan. i have an 04 murano that i got in 08 and it only has 38k miles 😍

Sweet deal on both! 😀

imho, Toyota is as amazingly reliable as Honda except I do not like the styling as much, so i went with Honda for my new car.

Also, before this current car I had a 18y.o. (1990) Honda Accord with zero problems that was still running great (until my sister totaled it). Thinking about my sister's driving reminded me of this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/30/womens-parking-only-china_n_407469.html

Hahahaha... is huffington satirical like the onion? That should be done anyway lol.

one thing though, the women-only garages in korea are about women's personal safety, not parking skills

my 'why temple?' essay was horribad as well.

I have a good idea of what I'm going to write. I just have to do it. Since I'm only applying to 5 schools, I can't half-ass any of my secondaries, you know?

I wanna write for "why emory?" "cuz it's really close to my favorite relatives. what more do you want?"

haha... I mean it's a great school and everything otherwise, but so are the other schools I'm applying to. family is uniquely why.

I really hate 100 word Why _____ essays. As if I'm going to say anything in 100 words that every one else isn't already saying. At least with the longer ones I could put something actually personal in there. Here it's going to be me basically reiterating what they've already highlighted in their website.

PS Geekchick I suspect that you will be just fine. :luck:

Temple's has no character limit and I'm like Ah Mah Gahd! What is too much!?!? What is not enough!?!?

I'm shooting for between 1000 and 2000 characters. I think I can get it all out in about that much.

Formula:
Curriculum _ Specific Point of Curriculum _ Research _ Specific Area of Research _ Personal Anecdote. 130 words. Haha.

I have a feeling you're also doing Emory. This was my quickest turnaround... already submitted. Also second most expensive secondary.

How much is Emory's? Dartmouth and GW were crazy expensive.
