Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The EK books are good for content REVIEW if you took the classes and understood the concepts well. The BR really have the best practice passages imho so even if you use something else for content review it might be worth it to get the BR books just for the passages.

👍👍

I guess you are right. Anything above 30 is really good and I should be happy... KP, when are you taking the MCAT? Are you done with your content review and FLs?

And yeah, I think it's considered the hardest. Just a quick search yields these threads: 😀

BS was really hard! Which PS passage did you think was the absolute killer? My bet is on the one about magnetism 😀

I'm actually taking the MCAT on 9/2, just like you 🙁 I am nowhere NEAR done content review or being done with FL's!!! That's why I'm feeling so screwed.

Oh wow... I didn't think AAMC 8 was THAT much harder, but I definitely thought it was a notch above AAMC 7, especially BS and VR-wise. There were at least two passages on VR that were WTF-inducing.

8 definitely had some crazier Ochem imho and too much physiology for my tastes.

Yeah the emphasis on ochem was much smaller than 7 (I loooved AAMC 7, three lovely, medium-difficulty ochem passages), but the ochem questions were WEIRD. I was relying heavily on random experience in orgo class more than anything else. It was crazy physiology/cell bio-heavy. Loved the physiology, hated the cell bio. A couple of very strange BS passages, focusing on really random aspects of biology.

Definitely, the EK books are excellent for reviewing content that you already are familiar with. That's why I liked my Kaplan course, because it introduced me to topics I had no idea about, and then EK was good at explaining those topics in more depth after I already had a background in them. Like anomeric carbons in ring carbohydrates, for example.

Hey, can someone post the site for the AAMC scales? I can't seem to find it.

can someone link some good TBR books for mcat prep im not sure if im looking at the right ones

is kaplan mcat material worth it. when i was looking through the books it seemed as if they were really well written and good info.

I initially liked them, but ended up not using them too much. Some of their chapters are great, but some are just... crappy. I wouldn't buy EK as your only book source (not good if you have no background in the material).

of course, and yea i have all the EK books for each subject including 101 passages, but im thinking about getting kaplan?? I heard a lot of bad things about barron tho?

So is the general consensus best review = EK/TBR and best practice = TBR passages and AAMC FL's?

What TBR book tho? I heard a lot of negative things on barron, haven't yet to see a positive one. I know EK is good, i'm set on there series have everything.

TBR=The Berkeley Review :laugh:

I really liked them but I was taking TBR class so it came with the class. Not sure if I would buy them knowing what I know now. IMHO they are great review but AAMCs are really the only true "practice" FLs.

so might as well get all the AAMC's? I was thinking of getting all aamcs and just have a few TBR FL's to change up a bit in between.

but idk yea i might just stick with aamc.

Thanks👍

TBR FL's worth it? kinda expensive

I heard they are. But you're right. they are ridiculously expensive

But then again, so are AAMCs. Why must everything about the med school application process need to be so expensive? 🙁

Yea definitely get the AAMCs. Depending on what schedule you are trying to follow you will probably have MORE than enough passages in TBR books. I did not do them all 😳 and I have extra passages for each chapter from in class too.....that I also did not do. 😳

I'll be sending my spare copies of TBR books tomorrow! 🙂

You should be good with TBR and EK and down the road...AAMC practice tests! 🙂

Oh yea. Assuming this test goes well in September I might have my books available for sale in October. I'd probably want to sell them in packs(ie All TBR books, all EK books) but I have:

  • All TBR Books(as of 2011) + In class passages(a passage set per chapter, + additional packets of passages, like a whole 1.5 inch binder of stuff)
  • EK MCAT Complete Study Package(Bio, Ochem, Physics, Gchem books + 1H paper test)
  • EK 1001's: Bio(little used up), Gchem, Ochem, Physics
  • EK Verbal 101
  • Kaplan 45: Advanced Prep for Advanced Students(has difficult passages and strats for taking on tough problems)
  • TPR Hyperlearning Verbal book(the 40 freestanding passages are unusable because previous owner wrote all over them but the 4 complete passages are usable)

ohhhhh god......i always get that mixed up!!

your right lmao....i was talking about this a few days ago!!!

Thanks man, thats what i was talking about👍👍👍👍

🙂

👍

How did the 2 a.m. PS session go for you last night? 😀

Not bad  Should have been better, but it tested a lot of stuff I wasn't familiar with...it was a Kaplan PS section test, so a lot of minute details that I forgot about 🙁
