Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That just means all the schools are desirable, doesn't it? Gonna be a tough choice when it comes to choosing which one to go to after acceptances:laugh:
Pretty much! People on SDN make it seem like everyone has a medical school soulmate, and if you don't find that school you'll be doomed to unending sadness. I don't think that's true 🙄

Me neither. That would be crazy.

If an Essay portion on the secondary application is already addressed in your personal statement, do you go ahead and skip it since it's already in your PS? For example in your PS, you describe how you overcame financial difficulties as a family member was ill and in the secondary essay, they ask you to list any circumstances where you had to overcome difficulties ranging from family illness to financial difficulties or other factors that may have put you at a disadvantage towards your undergrad education.( limit to 550 words). Do you go ahead and list the questions in the secondary essay even though it was mention in your PS? 😕😕😕

I finally registered for the MCAT exam.

March 24.

Now I can officially freak out now. :scared:

Is it wrong that I just want to get in anywhere? 😛
Haha of course not🙂
I meant it more as...I wish I hadn't wasted my time with schools that clearly don't like non-trads, because I could have instead applied to a few that did. And I should have realized that by the questions they asked🙂

Everyone is different. I think about 60% of people would be happy at a large number of schools, and chances are the place they end up picking is totally fine. Another 20% would be fine absolutely anywhere because they are just not sensitive to certain things. And another 20% would be miserable at most places because they are ultra-sensitive to certain things.

I just happen to fall into that last 20%🙂

I just really wanna get out of New York...really badly...I'm tired of NY, it's not so new anymore 😛 And it probably would help a lot to know which schools prefer what so I don't waste my time with them. 👍👍

Same, or at least out of upstate NY.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hope you all have a great one!

You too!!! Is it sad that while the food's cooking I'm hiding out doing Physics homework and that I brought my PChem book with me?
I'll answer that: yes.
Oh well, happy thanksgiving!

Posted this in the 2018 thread. Hope it brings you the same motivation for whatever you are working on as it did to me.

Happy Thanksgiving

It's not sad at all! I'm doing physics homework too 😛

This will make you guys feel better.

Since the UK doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving, I was served with a 2 hr genetics tutorial 9-11 then 3 hr medical statistics lecture 2-5.

And I didn't get to go Black Friday shopping! 🙁

Can't wait to go home. I'm not getting back until late Xmas eve, it will be unreal. :biglove:

You've probably had a lot more fun there over the semester, though 😀 Only one more month and you're back!

I love you guys! And miss you!

I'm dreading the rest of my semester. 8 pages each for endo paper and philo paper and Greek civ paper, another endo and bio exam, a lab practical/presentation/paper all in the next couple weeks. Not looking forward to it. 🙁

Also, let's all go to med school in NYC. It'll be fun times.

My semester is looking about the same...I don't wanna go back to school 😡

Can you please show me a sample format?😀

Sure. I think the format that works best is a CV, so you'd list your academic related honors and awards first and then list the courses that you've taken and your grade in them (A, B, C, etc).

Also don't forget to advertise any previous research experience you've had. I think most PIs will give you an interview(usually informal) and that's when you can go more in-depth about what you did, try to keep it brief on the CV(ex. Worked in X lab from Y til Z). Even if it was just basic cell bio techniques and biostats from intro to bio lab, you never know because it can set you apart from others. Of course this depends on your UG institution as more research-oriented ones will be less competitive due to the plethora of positions available.

Haha their academic system makes me even more neurotic than usual, so I actually haven't gone out too many times. But I have seen a lot of awesome places in London and Europe(went to Rome/Paris over reading week) and I'm really going to miss this culture as a whole. Having 2 finals count for 80%-100% of your grade in the class is really really scary too 😱

That's pretty crazy...3 of my classes are similar to that. I hand in 3 essays worth 35% each and then take the finals the next day for another 35%. Not looking forward to it 🙁

How did we fall back to pg 3? Almost couldn't find it! Tired from all that digging.

Hope everyone is doing great and charged up for finals!!!!

Been so busy and worried...not long before the semester is over :scared::scared:

The amount of work I need to do has tripled in the last two days. 🙁

Yeah found out yesterday my genetics final is moved forward to next Saturday, wonderful research paper due(not for awhile) but I'm not sure if I understand the hypothesis entirely at this point, plus a stat final in the last week! I feel fortunate compared to most though, especially because I got my other essay topics early so was able to finish them before getting too close to the deadline.

Anyone have exciting plans for Xmas break?

So I've figured out that by FAR, the best approach to a new semester is to go as hard as you can the first month, and maintain it as long as you can into the second month. Rocking the first round of midterms makes life a million times less stressful. My finals schedule because of this approach:

Stats - skip final due to 95%+
Marriage and Family - skip final due to high first test score and glitch/loophole in syllabus
Pathogenic bacteriology - need 77% for an A
Physics II - need 60% for an A

Only one real final I need to go hard for (microbiology). The rest of my time I can spend on the MCAT and other stuff. Just some advice for everyone from my experience the last two semesters 👍

This has been my approach to college. Every point past the A mark on an assignment or test basically counted as extra credit toward future assignments!

I'm going back home to Bolivia to see my family and friends! So excited! 😀

I've only been here for 4 years for undergrad and I'm already tired of it. One of the main reasons why I won't apply to most upstate NY med schools.

What's a break? Time to do finals in a week and then winter classes a week after and back to classes after that...shoot me now 🙁
