Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Can someone clear something up for me with LORs? My situation is that I only have one science letter as of now. It's really hard to get to know profs at a large university. I was hoping to use my PI as my other science letter, the reason being that he knows me far better than anyone else plus he "technically" was my instructor for a class (research = Surgery 699). Does anyone know if this is allowed? I don't wanna take a risk of getting rejected right away because it isn't, but I just feel that my PI can show my potential a whole lot more than some BS letter from another prof.

Why not get a LOR from your PI AND try to find another science professor who you took a class with to get you a letter. Will it be the best letter you ever got? No but why risk not being able to apply to schools because you don't have the required letters?

Well, I mean that's probably what I'm going to have to do, I just think it's dumb. Especially the schools that only allow three letters (pre-interview) and require it to be two science/one non-science.

Trust me, getting LORs at my school sucks. None of my science professors even have office hours this semester.

I gots me 6 letters( 2 science 1 non science 1 research 1 clinical 1 extra)....and since my letters are set as a packet by my school I get around most of the 3 only or specific requirements. I knew my school was good for something.....

So your school does the committee letter? mine does too but I'm wondering how much ill fit into one letter...

If you have a committee than generally that letter(with or without your other letters attached) will supersede any requirements I think. But no my school just does a letter packet(compiles our letters into a packet with a cover letter about our school).

This is what I'm going for. So far I have a sci, non-sci, and research. I might have another sci coming up with my current PChem class. Although the funny part is the sci letter I have right now is already from a PChem professor XD That's not bad is it....?
For the last two I was thinking from my job because I work with kids and want to be a Pediatrician, and from someone I shadow maybe? I still don't know...
But yeah, the packet thing is a real time & money saver!

I've been meaning to jump on this thread for awhile. And with all the free time I have in my final semester I have ample time to both Reddit and SDN.

Good luck to all you guys still studying for your MCAT! Lets goooo class of 2017!

May as well 😀, im still in the process of reviewing though. hopefully ill be ready by then

Good luck guys! And have fun at THAT UC school 😉

So as for my first practice exam I got the score I expected. It isn't a high score, but for only being halfway through my studies, it's good. Now to increase it!

Until then, pchem midterm tomorrow. Yay....

I feel like key thing to increase our MCAT score is to take the practice test as many as possible... the more we take, the more experience we have, and the more we learn from those tests.... Reviewing the materials is only building the basement for a house.

Which practice test did you use?

Pretty standard knowledge

Any specific reason?

I go to the guy for info on the comittee letter and how the application process works at my school and he starts going off on a tangent about how I should get research dealing with art in medicine/medicine and cinema. If only that were something more plausible...🙄

Well he's just trying to help you! What if something about medicine in cinema comes up in an interview?

My advisor kept telling me to double major iin Bio and Chem. BC Med schools would like to see that I could handle 20+credits a semester of science. He was HIGHLY disappointed when I said I'm doing Biochem. I'm glad I didnt listen...

Dayum. But yay May babies! *points to self* ^_^

I had PChem last monday, I'm anxious for the scores because I thought of all my mistakes... as soon as I got home -__-" This coming Monday I have an Inorganic Chem midterm. Not at all excited for it, the prof is known for long-***** tests even though the material takes time already. Boo.

Is inorganic really that time-consuming? My friend had an adjunct teach it and for the final, they went from 8am one day to 9pm and continued for another 4-5 hrs the next day. Needless to say, that and tthe professor was changed ASAP.
Makes me feel cautious about tthat class...
