I finally asked my Organic Chemistry and Zoology professors for letters of recommendation...and they said they'd be happy to do so!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 I was so terrified they'd say no. That's a huge relief off my back.

Haha yeah I kept freaking out that people I asked to write my letters would say no but in the end most people have been super nice/happy about it.

That's awesome! The professor would have to be the biggest jerk or would have to hate you to say no

so far i have 2 letter writers writing; bio, and a physician.

i asked my chem prof, and she said yes, but i still haven't gave her the information etc.

How many schools, or do almost all schools require a non-science letter right? I can't think of any prof to ask....i barely taken any non-science classes, the only ones were my intro courses and i never spoke with any of my prof back then

Not me! Just a letter packet from my school...

I have 2 letters in, 2 in the process of getting done, 1 meeting this week and 1 meeting to set up. Never ending process ftw.

My school has a letter service so I guess thats letter packets

How many people here have committee letters?

In my school, the professors send their letters of recommendation to the committee and they send a letter based on what they read plus other material I have to send (including an autobiography).

For some reason, I thought my Orgo Chem professor was going to be annoyed that I asked her, or would say that she was too busy to write a letter. I'm so happy that was not the case. 🙂

Congrats! I've asked one so far, and he said yes so I'm just in the process of getting it all done. I know two more I want to ask, but I'm uber nervous and can't figure out when the right time is.

An example is my job: I've been working there for a year, and think they could write a great LOR BUT I may be too overwhelmed to keep working there next quarter so I don't want to ask and then quit or vice versa. Should I make space (somehow) to work, ask, and then quit at the end of the schoolyear? Or explain my busy schedule and as I quit ask for a LOR. The boss is super chill, loves me, and constantly hiring, so quitting is not as detrimental as in another workplace. Still, I don't want to be rude.

My boss knows I'm in the med school process, already I asked her to lower my hours for MCAT studying this quarter, so she wouldn't be mad I don't think. I just don't know how to slide in the LOR thing in there. Also, she wasn't the original boss when I started working (but she's grown to like me as well). Comments?

Maybe bring it up at the same time? I am a proponent of being as honest as possible. Maybe go in ASAP and ask if they can write a strong letter and in the process explain what you will need to do to get ready to apply to medical school. This will allow you to show how busy you will be and you can broach the subject of quitting by explaining that you might not have enough time to do this + focus on school work. My guess is your boss will understand.

Hey I was wondering what everyone is doing for the summer.

I am still undecided, I have a research position but it is unpaid, or volunteering and shadowing.

If you're planning on working full-time for your research, you could possibly broach the subject of salary/stipends with your PI. 🙂

Yeah I did talk about it, and I forgot but they did offer money but it does not cover my rent 🙁

I don't know either. I am graduating and would like to do research(though I am pretty picky about this...). I should probably get on that.

I think it is. There's a thread for 2016, and 2018. It's only fair if there is one for 2017. By all means, if you don't see this suitable, then there is no need to post sweetie 🙂

(i know this thread is crazy long.... but still)

what if you aren't accepted this year? then you will be class of 2018 (at least). yadda yadda, something about chickens and hatching....

It is 4:10 am and I can't sleep BC I'm nervous about my psych test in less than 4 hours.
I might just get up and continue studying...

Exams and more exams for everyone. Good luck to you all! :luck:

By our powers combined....we are the CLASS OF 2017! 😛
