Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
🙁 that's a shame. It's probably cause of all the Asians. after all, UCLA stands for "U C Lots of Asians"😛

@torshi - Yeah, I'm gonna apply to some DO schools just in case, but I don't know if I'll take it. The goal is to be a doctor, but I personally would rather get an MD than a DO. I guess pride is an issue with me. (I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with a DO degree.)

I'll take either 😛 What pride? 😀

I know a couple of people who got into UC schools who got rejected from schools in Texas.

Rumor has it that UC schools are looking to attract more OOS for undergrad for the increased revenue (via OOS tuition).

It's a great idea.

lol....that's what's wrong with the Texas system.

The idea of having low tuition is to entice people to come to the state to practice medicine, but then students leave for residencies elsewhere at the first opportunity

If you're bored of Texas, living in the Dallas area for four years of med school certainly isn't going to help. :meanie:

yea ill just suck it up tho. Because then i will know when it comes time for residency I'll have a chance to leave. I mean i complain, but i can handle it

yea but all you have to do i believe is once you get there go get a Florida driver license and that should automatically establish your Florida residency and they should drop the tuition to in-state tuition for the following semester and years.

Also, besides that if you live there for a certain amount of time you can establish residency

Oh I didn't know about that. But school wise & residency I definitely wanna stay in the Northeast (family reasons) if chances permits :xf:Than move to FL!!!!

Yea I'll find a way, cause I will not pay that much OOS just to be in Fl, that's beyond ridiculous.

yea I just meant it in a way as to say that's messed up. But yea smart idea for them makin money.

They're just going to raise the tuition by $300 every year in NY state schools. Not sure which is worse

I think every school increases there tuition every year or the majority does. My school even raised it.

Torshi you mentioned Boston, my neighbor's daughter is PA student at Northeastern University and it cost her $960 just for a studio!!!! not including utilities.!!

They have raised tuition by more than 300 a year since I have been at the UCs. It was less than 9K when I started 2 years ago and now its 12k a year! =(

😱 Well...cali is broke. My tuition was 6k 2 years ago and it's 7.5k now, but now they get to raise it $300 more every year on top of what they normally raise it by. All so they can close down food courts and build new infrastructure that I will never be able to use 🙁

Education is so heavily subsidized. When you have a budget as bad as Cali's, it would be naive to assume that you could maintain the status quo.

Yea man! Boston i beleive is the most expensive city.

It's still is a great place to be though.
Some of the hospitals (brigham, MGH, Children's, MEE) are pretty up there in ranks. They see some of the most complex patients.

The trauma surgeon I shadowed told me you wanna be at hospital where you'll be expose to different commodities so that you'll be well prepared when your attending.

I agree. Its necessary and I would rather pay more than let the schools go to hell. Its just a disappointing considering the how money is spent in California.

I saw stats of loans of med graduates from different institutions and I saw Mayo graduates coming out with like 30K of loan!! 😱 I would give my left leg for that!!

But knowing Mayo, I ain't gonna set my hopes up high haha 😛

That sounds wayyyy too cheap for Boston.

Idk why, but housing everywhere in Massachusetts is incredibly expensive.

Idk man, I'm just the messenger.

Not everywhere in Mass, my best friend lives in Fall River and a 3 bedrooms apt for $750 compare that to the studio is crazy!

Have a good night, guys. I'm heading home and going to bed! 🙂

Sup 17 brahs...

will most likely be applying next year

feelsgoodman

What is the rest of '17 doin' tonight? I just enjoyed a delicious cigar with some friends, but now it's time to study for an o-chem lab test for Monday =/
