Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah I'm happy I picked such a small school. If you demonstrate an interest in the subject and show that you're working hard professors just eat it up. I've been really lucky to somehow get the chair of the Chem & Biochem Dept. to LOVE me 🙂 She introduced me to her daughter 😀 I'm not interested but I'll pretend that I am until she finishes her part of my committee letter

Nice!! You go to school in cali? Keep working your magic 😉 At least one of is known to the faculty...I'm just a number to my dept, which is why I feel like doing a humanities major instead.

More competition 👎

My competition has been....less than expected. Everyone is pre-med but I avoid the crazy people and try to keep non-premed or sane people as friends. Also my school hasn't been thaaaaat hard. I try to be a secret premed :ninja: though I have been recently more open about my intentions.

Can't seem to find out how many students apply/get accepted at my school. It's like a big dark secret...I tried talking to everyone...

My school only published it for a short time. I think because it made them look bad(see attached file.) :scared: If you ask your advisors they should know....who knows if they will actually tell you though.(they can see it in the health advisor portal)

But definitely not a huge amount of premeds. My ugrad only has ~5,000 undergrads. Definitely not as big as the UCs

Aw....my school has almost 5,000 bio majors!!!(about 4,500)

Wow...UC Irvine has 36% acceptance rate 😱😱 Is that below national average? I actually asked my advisor last semester and she didn't tell me 🙁 I try to meet people outside of my major, but it's really hard especially with huge class sizes. Although most of my friends are pre-meds, I think I've picked moderately sane ones :meanie:

Yea but as shown in another PDF I apparently don't have our average acceptee has about the same stats as the national average. We just have a lot of applicants with subpar GPAs apparently. Also I know some people that fell in the 30 - 34 3.9+ range that didn't get accepted. At least one of them only applied to Ivy Leagues....

Edit: Also applying from California is rough?

Doesn't california love in state students? It's probably the same way in ny. And that really sucks for the 3.9 30-34 people...I'm gonna be one of those subpar people applying 😛 I'll probably be applying to all the DO schools. Hopefully somebody accepts me in america 🙄

Doooooo it!!!! if you are interested in something else. 👍👍

Yeah, I thought I should. Of course I want to be a doctor, but I don't really care for a bio/biochem degree  Almost done with my pre-reqs...Just need another english class and orgo lab. I took two film classes and really enjoyed them. I'm thinking of doing a film studies major or something like that.

California does love instate students but there are sooooooo many of us haha. Haha Don't count yourself out yet. You still have your MCAT and a year of school! I am sure you get accepted in plenty of places in America 👍

:xf::xf: I'd actually be happy going to a DO school. I'm sure my ego can handle it 😛 It's the same difference. It's not like I was hoping to get into derm or something. DO/MD, makes the same difference to me. 👍

Yeah but NY has something like 16 in state schools (VERY rough number) and California has 8 or something (again ROUGH number).
So we just don't have enough med schools for our population size, though our schools do love taking us, but who wouldn't 😎

I have no problem with going D.O but considering the fact that i'm international, i would like to practice medicine in my country someday and with a D.O degree, the doors are just shut on that one.

👍👍Good Attitude. I wouldn't mind going to DO either. My MCAT score will ultimately determine my list of schools.

You're gonna be fine!!! Just keep up the great work you've been doing! With a GPA like yours, all you need is like a 30 :xf::xf:

i'm a citizen but i was born somewhere in Africa. i don't want to name the country yet cuz some of my friends might spot me on SDN 😀

You can tell me someday 😛 That's really cool though. I admire your awesomeness 👍👍

i'm sure it's all good. class of 2017 would not disappoint. everyone is gonna make it 👍

They're gonna open up enough med schools/residency spots just to accomodate us 😀:xf:

My school thinks I'm a commuter so they're not giving me a resident parking permit...I need to call some people and get some people assassinated (In my dreams).

yeah. lot of med schools are already in the planning but the problem now is residency spots. we have new med schools opening almost every 2 years but residency spots just remain the same. this might be a problem since we will have more graduates and less residency spots to offer. they better do something about it.

I know...Not sure what they were thinking...Yeah, sure it's great that I'll have a better chance of getting in somewhere, but what will I do to pay off my loans? Run away to mexico?
