Well, it's a sexy car, so it's worth it

Infiniti??? Hot dayum, boi, that's sexy. I just share my parents' cars, since they don't think I'm worth a separate car, haha. They're right though, it's more of a hassle to have a car at my college than not to.

Thanks guys! I have always driven my parents' cars before and this is my first own car, so I get really happy when people say they like it. As childish as it sounds, I think I developed an emotional attachment to it... her. (I like to pretend she's a girl) 🙂

Awwww, don't feel bad SU, your AAMC 8 was nothing to scoff at. Anything 30+ is always good. Honestly, if I get a balanced 30 on 9/2, I'm not retaking.

You know what's really strange? On AAMC 7, I got a 34, which was a 121/146 raw score. On AAMC 8, I got a 31, which was a 115/146. On AAMC 5, I got a 30, which was a 110/146. That's a crazy difference between scores, raw score-wise. 5 points between a 30 and a 31, but 6 points between a 31 and a 34. That's pretty harsh, methinks.

And yes I agree! The scoring seemed kinda... off. I don't know. I think with a 115/146 in 8 you should have gotten like a 34 or 35, considering 121 in 7 is 34. It's strange really... Do you know if the AAMC practices are actual past tests? Because if they are not I think their scaling needs readjustment

I feel like a jump from 30 to 31 of four points on the raw score is kind of okay. I feel like five points would be more appropriate, four points seems barely okay, anything less than that makes no sense. But it just shows how hard this beast is: the difference between points even in the lower to mid 30's is really minuscule. I do think AAMC 7 was a bit easier than AAMC 8, which wasn't really reflected at all in the scales.

lol, I'm gonna be a weirdo as an upperclassman without a car at my school, probably. Mostly because my school has a lot of rich brats. 👎

Oh well. I don't mind taking the campus shuttle to the grocery store. Maybe I'll meet a cutie on the bus one day.

I can totally understand that. I get really attached to my things as well 🙂 It's like whenever someone touches something that belongs to me it runs through my head whether they'll treat it as well I do, you know?

I believe they were actual tests in the past, so the scales were adjusted based on how difficult that test was relative to the others from that year.

I'm sure you'll be fine! How was physics as a pre-req. Nervous about taking it this fall, first time with physics ever haha.

I'll be honest: physics was tough. Granted, I took Physics I along with Orgo II AND Neuroscience, so that was a hellish semester. However, I actually learned to appreciate physics. Basically, I was scared crapless of physics because math is not a strong suit, so I threw myself into physics, and made sure I was actually understanding it, as opposed to memorizing equations and memorizing certain instances of problems and how to solve them. The key to the physics pre-req is taking the time to really understand each concept as it comes along, and how it relates to other concepts. Once you have a grasp of that, do tons and tons of practice problems. After that, you're ready to tackle any problem the professor will throw at you (unless he's a craze-o, which is highly possible). There's just no half-arsing physics: you either go all the way, or don't. It's difficult, but if I can do physics, you can too (seriously, though).

I actually preferred Physics II to Physics I, just as an FYI. Physics I develops your physics brain, and II sharpens it.

Hmm, yeah, what I did like about physics is that it contextualized chemistry and biology really well, and gave the scientific world some perspective. I think it's actually a valuable pre-req, though it doesn't seem like it at the time you take it. Basically, you've got to take physics, so you might as well enjoy it somewhat!

My physics labs were super easy. They give you 2 hrs to finish a 20minute lab. Usually I would just collect some data and record it on paper and leave 😛 All the other labs were a pain in the but. 😡

I can't imagine taking labs SEPARATELY, I would fail those epically. I stink at labs like no other, so my exams, etc. make up for my absolutely abysmal lab grades. It's really funny, because most people's lab grades bring up their exam grades, but my lab grades bring DOWN my grades. Every. Single. Time. It really sucks 🙁

My school makes it a departmental policy. Physics and chem do their labs separate from the classes (3 lecture credits, 1 lab credit) and the bio department includes it as part of the grade (4 credits). Bio labs at my school are relatively easy to actually do, except they can be a real pain sometimes. We have practicals every semester, so you basically need to remember every concept you learn in lab/how to do it, and there's always an individual self-designed experiment/paper project. And they get nitpicky with your lab notebook grades. 👎

Chem labs were hard for me to actually do, but then it was usually a matter of BSing some questions/calcualations/a report. 😛

I thought the verbal was similar--maybe even a little easier. Most of my passages were actually interesting other than one really boring one. The PS seemed similar to AAMC's and calmed me down as I started taking it. After reading the 8/19 MCAT thread though, it seems most others had a different version that was pretty hard. The BS was tough for me. It had really dense passages and seemed to focus on my weak areas in biology while ignoring my strength (organic). At this point I am hoping that I did better than I thought and that I won't have to retake

We are really similar scores-wise... Have you only taken three so far? Are you taking any FLs other than AAMCs?

Well, I've taken two Kaplan FL's, but I'm not really counting them into my FL average. I took Kaplan FL 1 wayyyy back in late June, so I don't think it counts towards my average (it would kill it, because it was a 26, lol). I took Kaplan FL 2 in late July, and got a 34 (11/11/12) which I was super happy with, but I'm not counting that either because it was a totally different test from the AAMC's.

I'm definitely not planning on taking any more Kaplan FL's. I'll take AAMC's 4, 9, 10, and 11, and maybe 3 if I have time. Otherwise, no more! I think Kaplan FL's would just screw me up at this point since they're so different in terms of difficulty and scaling.

I took it 8/19 too and I totally agree. Things were going pretty well then BAM! I all of a sudden had no clue what was happening.
