Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Dear god, Ryanair was horrible. Missed flights, airports way out of the way of anything, causing me to spend extra on bus fair, no refunds. Never again. Never. Again.

Don't forget their incredibly strict baggage policies and exorbitant overage fees. IIRC, it's like an 80 euro charge if your carry-on doesn't fit?

Just don't bank all your hopes on them, because you will be disappointed.

I decided not to go with RyanAir because you have very limited carry on options and have to choose how much your luggage weighs beforehand(within 5 kb) and you can't change it at the gate without a huge fee. I found very cheap tickets to and from Dublin with aer lingus.

Edit: they are also the airline that was lobbying for removal of seatbelts on airplanes so their planes could be standing room only.

When are you gonna be in Dublin? I'll be there May 13 and 14, leaving the morning of the 15th!

I did the post college Europe trip with my sister way back in 2005. It was a blast and a half. With some guerrilla tactics, we managed to do the 3 1/2 week trip for about $2000 including airfare. We hit Spain (Valencia, Barcelona), France (Paris, Lyons, Strasburg), Austria (Vienna), Hungary (Budapest, Lake Balaton), and Germany (Munich).

We limited our eating out and tried to find local, cheap, authentic places. Churches are great cultural destinations as they are usually free. Most of the hostels were decent with the exception of Paris and Barcelona (got there late in the day and got stuck with beds in the hallway next to the bathroom with the light that never turned off). Most of the time the easiest solution to getting stuck in a crappy hostel was to just get drunk that night so as to guarantee the ability to sleep 😀.

We did one overnight train and got lucky to be staying in a section by ourselves so sleep wasn't too hard. They also had paper Eurail passes back then so with a little creativity we were able to stretch a couple extra days out of a 10 day pass.

lol, wouldn't put it past them to do something like at. Ryanair is terrible. Never. Again 😡

Also, all this talk about Europe makes me miss my time I spent there. So amazing, except for the whole Ryanair incident. But I guess it wouldn't be a good Eurotrip if there wasn't some sort of mess that happened. 🙄

I only hope that my fellow 2018ers can appreciate the joys of EtOH as much as you guys do 😀

Haven't drank since new years.

Quit alcohol till I reach my first weight loss goal. 10 more pounds to go! (lost about 30 so far)

So how about that new Robin Thicke mv...I can't link it here since I don't feel like getting banned.

Had some red, had some rose, had some white and repeated this for a while. Awesome. 😍😍😍

I'll stop posting before I make some ridiculous promises like a one Dr. Strange. :naughty:

That's quite a bit of weight to lose! Congrats!

I am finally back down to below 180. I wouldn't mind losing a little bit more but I can't go much lower and still be healthy looking.

Wow, $2k!? That's an amazing budget. Great advice, thanks. Did you find it difficult traveling between countries? How was the customs experience? Nothing like the US, right?

Travelling between countries was a breeze. In the EU zone, there are few limitations to travel. Not sure about the travel to England. They're a little more exclusive there.

We booked our hostels in advance using hostelworld.com (I think) which ensured that we had some place to stay no matter where we went.

I am a little jelly of some y'all that get to go there. I would love to go back with my boyfriend or do some kind of trip (I was thinking like the national parks out west), but I think he will be starting a job around that time so we will have to settle for some weekend trips.

It's sad. I have the money now (I make my Europe budget in about half a month), but not availability.

Well, I've done the National Parks tour and can tell you that you won't regret it; it was among one of the best experiences of my life. You can buy a season's pass for about $150 with something on the order of 12 visits, which pays for itself very quickly. It covers your entire vehicle, so no per person BS. If you like, I can give you a list of some of the best parks, three of which are in Utah. You really can't go wrong in Utah. It's funny, before I visited Utah I thought it was just a state full of fields and Mormons, lol. I was stunned to find the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen on this Earth, hands-down. My absolute favorite is Canyonlands, which blows both Grand Canyon Rims out of the water, seriously.

:sigh: Just as you're getting nostalgic about Europe, I'm getting nostalgic about my "Great West Roadtrips" with my ex.

Anyway, just let me know if you want more info and I'll PM you. (Btw, some amazing parks are state/local and not covered by the pass but definitely worth the money and time to visit.)

As we grow closer to the May 1st opening date for AMCAS, I'm thinking those of you that want to join me for the fireside chat should try to plan on completing it by around April 15th to give the c/o 2018 a little more time to incorporate whatever advice we have for them into their applications.

Thoughts?

Also, if you're wanting to star on the chat, please PM me so I can keep track of who wants to participate.

Sounds like a reasonable timeline.

PM sent.

Canyonlands is great but man I love arches in Moab.

Nice to hear someone extolling the virtues of the Utah scenery!

Good morning everyone,

I have been learning about Hep E in a refugee camp in South Sudan. So thankful for clean water. Have you guys thought about working with MSF?

Arches and Bryce Canyon are both exquisite! I have insane pictures of Arches during a freak Spring snowstorm: simply breathtaking!

I definitely intend to do work with MSF, especially if I end-up in a surgical specialty, as there aren't nearly as many 'free-clinic' opportunities for surgeons. 🙁 But there are plenty of opportunities with MSF.

P.S. For those of you not familiar with the acronym MSF, it stands for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders).

I could be interested, I'll PM you for details.

Cuse game is on tonight! Woo!!! This day needs to pass quickly.

FYI, it looks like we may only have room for one more participant if you're interested in doing the fireside chat. I'm still waiting to verify that we can only have 4 people at once; so we might have more room, but better to let me know now and be safe rather than sorry! 🙂
