Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, I had to learn three nerves in anatomy this week. The year long approach isn't looking so bad.

Good luck, you'll be done soon!

Agreed. So far I don't mind it. I think it is better to spread it out, even though it would be nice to be done.

Did some shadowing today in the hospital. Man, I feel so stupid--I know, like, nothing. There's no way on earth I'm going to know all that stuff in four years.

I've got it in 1.5 years. We haven't even started yet.

In other news, Immuno is a foreign language.

:wow: Say what!? How is that even possible!? And where are you? I can't remember :/

And vasculature, so much damn vasculature!

So... many... nerves...

Hopefully this thread picks up when all of our anatomy classes are over. I am jealous of you guys that are taking a year long anatomy that you can spread this stuff over. Rushing through it is stressful, especially for the people that have a weaker background in the subject. I have been putting in extra work to help the dental students that are in my group. Hopefully they repay me with from cheap dental work in the future.

:luck:

I wish I had dental insurance 🙁 Not looking forward to paying for a cleaning by an academic faculty member of the dental school :/

Pls excuse typos, sent via iPhone.

I like anatomy when I go and study it alone. Then I go to lab and get gunned down every two minutes and start hating anatomy again. It's a vicious cycle.

Also yeah, dubya tee effe, anatomy is for first years.

Go Blue.

🙂

Our head & neck exam is in 3 hours and I feel like I should maybe be studying, but I also killed our practice test, so...

P=MD

The multiple choice test was kind of difficult, but I am like 99% sure I at least passed it.

Man I haven't posted here in a while. I have my first block final coming up soon... 8 weeks of information, the test spans several days, and the final is 100% of my grade. I'm kind of terrified to be honest.

Whoa that sounds brutal

Yeah man, it's really harsh haha. I haven't taken a break since we started and I'm getting burnt out. On the plus side I have a 4 day weekend after my final 😎

How's school going for you dude?

I have like 5 beers in me right now... and my anatomy professor bought them all for me! Now time to go to a "medical malpractice" party and have a few more. Head/neck is over! Long live abdomen/pelvis (for 2 weeks)!!!!!

Nice man! Enjoy! I'll be in your shoes in a couple of weeks (hopefully)

As a food snob, I have to say I have unfairly high standards. Tonight, we went to Vetri. Holy mother of god, I didn't know food could be that good. Or that expensive.

One of our professors goes on like a 5 minute tangent about food in every lecture. Wednesday he talked about foie gras and yesterday he talked about wine and oysters.

Is it Histo? Lol. Our histo prof uses ONLY food analogies in class. He taught at Harvard for like 13 years and he constantly reminds us. Lol. He is really really good at what he does.

Careful dude, you might become part of that ICM lecture if you're not careful 🙂

Lipid biochemistry... but he did do his post-doc at Harvard.

Its goin man. 2 weeks left of anatomy and I'm donzo. I'll have a week off and then I start genetics/neoplasia. I'm gonna love that break! Haha

I've seen so many people with colds recently that I've considered wearing a surgical mask and arming myself with a bottle of Lysol every time I leave my apartment.

Or I could just travel like this:

I'm curious. What classes are you guys taking for your first year? I feel like ours I a lot, even for med school, because of the new "integrated" curriculum. Our is:

Clinical Anatomy (includes gross, embryology, and neuro)
Osteopathic Principles and Practices (OMT&OMM)
Medical Genetics
Doctoring Skills (H&P, etc)
Medical Physiology
Histology
Medical Biochemistry

All of these courses are spread out over the first year, meaning we have 7 courses going on all at once. Each with their own readings, pre- and post-quizzes, etc. I have no frame of reference, so I don't know if this amount of work is normal. We just completely finished our first block, so I am just getting a chance to breathe. But I still can't stop or risk getting behind.

Yep, pretty much the same material under different class names minus the OMM/OMT. Instead of OMT, we have about 30hrs of precepting plus PBL and clinical correlates. We're all freakin swamped 🙁

^ We have a hybrid Biochem/Genetics/Cell Bio course, which we finished today 🙂 then Anatomy till Dec.

We did Behavior and Development with the Hybrid course plus our Doctoring course.

So now, we just have Doctoring plus Anatomy. Then Physio, Immuno and Doctoring in the Spring. I don't believe we have anything else for first year.

We are on the integrated curriculum as well. This block we have:
Cell Biology
Genetics
Biochemistry
Microbiology
Clinical Skills
Histology
Anatomy
Embryology
Pharmacology
Immunology
OMM
And those stupid BS lectures on Friday I think it's called FMP and PCC

It's weird though because next block we just have:

Physiology
Pathology
Anatomy
Clinical Skills
OMM
FMP and PCC

I think it's because we are systems based, so they just provide us with a foundation to build off of then we go into more detail in block 3 once we start systems. The hours that we are in lecture is pretty much the same from block to block at around 30 hours per week or so.

We have PBL and case studies built in as well. Just doesn't seem like there is enough time for everything! I'm definitely not the gunner type. Ha

Yeah, we have those too, but it's fairly chill. Sometimes I wonder why more people don't drop out just because of the sheer volume of material. I definitely feel you though, I'm not the gunner type either. Sometimes I look around and I'm like, "these people enjoy this stuff too much." Maybe I should have sat in the back row of the lecture hall with all the other non-gunner types. Haha

<------ ALWAYS sits in back...when in required lectures, anyway. I don't attend the non-required lectures. I loathe class and lab. :/ Can't wait to start rotations. ::sigh:: It's like taking my undergrad pre-meds in the summer all at once.
