The worst thing about being at home is the ridiculously slow internet connection :bang:

lol, it's a high of 14 here, real feel is -1. Woke up bright and early to snowblow/shovel the 6 inches of snow coating my driveway.

The sad part is it's Philly, the real northeast has it a lot worse.
:scared::scared::scared: That sounds horrible. It's like 45 degrees here and I can barely take it:hungover:... How do you guys do it?

Lol. That's crazy... What if you don't drink? lol

@nOchemallday what did you use to prepare yourself for the PS section on the MCAT?
If you don't drink, that'd better be a heated blanket.

As for MCAT stuff: I used the SN2ed. I was doing a lot of stuff when I studied, so I fell behind schedule by like day 3 (I think officially I only ever made it to day 46/98). I had to change my gameplan to attack weakest areas stopped being able to keep up with the chapters.

I did well in the TBR passages, and did a lot of EK 1001 questions (maybe did 250-400 in total). Otherwise, the math tips in TBR helped for gen chem/physics; I don't think I used all of them, but I remembered a lot. #1 rule for physics is learn all the equations. You don't need to know diddly-squat about half the types of problems if you can just use the units to figure out the answer. I didn't take physics 3 (quarter system) until after I took the MCAT so I had to self-study fluids, pressure, SHM, and optics....all equations.

Recognize the high-yield topics in each of the subjects, there is always, ALWAYS, a question (or few, or even a whole passage) about translational/rotational motion, optics, energy, and waves/harmonics for physics. And there is ALWAYS a question (or few, or even a whole passage) about electrochem, chemical equilibrium, periodic table/trends, acid/base. Mastering the real basic chemical principles can help you rationalize anything you don't remember (things like electronegativity).

Otherwise, I think PS is easiest because it's a 'practice makes perfect' type of section. I had the privilege of a chemistry major behind me with plenty of practice.

Hope that helps? I can clarify if it doesn't. I feel like it's not really all that much useful info

Nope it definitely helps. I have done well on my practice exams but I never know how I'm going to do on PS. For me, bio and verbal are the easiest but I'm too inconsistent on PS. I have mainly used EK and TBR. TBR helped alot, however I have not seen that much of an improvement in the last month or so. I just picked up some of Princeton Review stuff so I thought I'd give it a shot. Thanks for the tips though.

I didn't see any improvements until I started on AAMC practice tests. I would consistently score 70-80% on the TBR practices for each section (even when I went back for the last 1/3rds of the sections); but solid review of my first few AAMCs started the upward trend in all sections. If I had more time, I wish I would have gotten the self-assessments, AAMC content was by far the most helpful to review from.

Fml, just took a full-length (TPR) and got the same sum score as I did on a Kaplan mock before studying D:< turds.

😊 @turayza and @silverturtle feel you man 😊

I live in the PNW 🙂 It's been 40-55 degrees all week! ...and endless fuzzy rain, but that's normal.

played games with my family!! it was nice. my boyfriend was home sick with pneumonia, so that was too bad 🙁

i decided to start my personal statement pretty much over today.... argh so frustrating hahaha.

No New Year's kissing for you 😱
Ah I totally agree, every time a rewrite is complete it feels pretty good, and then looking at it a few days later is like "what is this garbage"

Awwww. Keep in mind that TPR tests are way harder than necessary. My TPR scores were 5-8 points lower than my AAMC scores.

Similar forecast here!!

I know 🙁 it was very sad!
So far, I like my rewrite! I think I'm gonna put it away for a while though and revisit it closer to app time.

Impossible. Drinking is essential for life.

Pffft, I beg to differ!!

Heyyyy! Happy 2014. I still don't have all my school grades and I'm procrastinating MCAt studying.

Oh are they? Hmm... I haven't gone over the answers yet, but it looked like a lot of wrong ones heheheh

Maybe closer to application time, those of us who are comfortable can exchange PS for editing 🙂

Try using 0 (never) or 10 (always) for more accurate results.

Haha I'll take you up on it once it's got some more work on 🙂

The PS Reader thread will help you a lot. Highly recommend it.

Yea I took it for a spin:

Pathology - 78% :uhno::help::dead:
Thoracic Surgery - 74% 🤔
Internal Medicine - Infectious Diseases - 74% :hungover::barf:
Anesthesiology - 74%

Orthopedic Surgery - 58%

Oh well, I don't even know what half of the specialties on that list do on a daily basis; would seem awfully foolish to commit to 1 this early.

Try using 0 (never) or 10 (always) for more accurate results.

I'll have to try that and do it again :xf:

My list makes zero sense.

Hey guys @turayza @nOchemallday. Feel free to PM me your PS and i'll help oit. I helped with some 2018ers and they have a successful cycle so far
Just a thought, since I don't know quite how AMCAS works yet. You write one generic PS for the whole app right? It's not like college PS where you try to include a few lines of why you think you are a good fit at X school because those are asked in the secondaries?

Yes PS is for all of them. "why medicine / why you'd be good". Secondaries you throw in some school-specific ass-kissing 😀

I saw a baby delivered... haven't been the same since... lol

In all honesty, it wasn't that bad just not interested in it. Although nothing was as boring as the time I shadowed an endocrinologist :hungover:

Hahahah my favorite part is when they grab the baby's head and just pull, it was such a "wtf, babies are delivered like this?!" moment oh my goodness.
Uh oh, what did you see?

Good lifestyle in residency and work.
Ah I see. Radiology seems lonely 🙁

I took it too... I don't think it's very accurate, as I said I liked time off and wasn't too keen on super long work hours, and my highest match was thoracic surgery :wtf:

I'm not even going to take the quiz. It'll prob match me with something I'm so not interested in. Like internal.

I really want to go into sports medicine. I think I'll do it by way of orthopedic surgeon or something of the like
Yea that's something I am also interested in. Namely sports med. The idealist in me wants to pursue ortho, but realistically I know it's a hella competitive residency. So I've been looking into physiatrics (PM&R), gen surg, and my pre-med interest in surgery makes me think aneesthesiology could be really cool even if you aren't doing the surgery itself.

I'm even debating doing the athletic trainer route, even though it would be hella different then my plan a
