So, to all stArting school this august, does anyone intend to Continue to work or r u quitting ur job. If u do intend to work then how many hours PER WEEK, what shift and what kind of job. I will be attending TEMPLE and i am thinking of working 12hours every friday and saturday night 7pm-7am (24 hours total) a week. Is it feasible or suicidal. So who intends on working. Also how r preparing for august start date approximately 3-4weeks away 🙂

I'm not planning to work at least the first semester in school (maybe even the first year). I figure it's more important to ensure I can follow along with the school work and worry about the money later. There will be plenty of opportunities to work in the later years if i choose to do so.

That's not to say I couldn't handle a job, but it depends what you're working toward. If you're just planning to pass your classes, then you probably can get away with it. If you want that >3.5 though (for example, if you're planning to apply for future grad programs or residencies), it might prove to be harder. It can be done though. But I'm not taking any chances =)

I'm still undecided whether I should work or not. And it has nothing to do with the money. I just want to get as much experience as I can so I don't look like a complete idiot when I'm out doing my rotations. That's my biggest fear. I think I will wait until my second year to work.

I'm moving back to the area for school in 2 weeks and plan on taking my old job working at a retail store in the mall (very non-pharmacy related). Once school starts, I'll only work Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays (probably 15-20 hours a week). It works for me because I do all my school stuff when I get home from class, and then even if I have the weekend off, I tend not to do any homework anyway.

I don't necessarily need the money (my parents spoil me and pay my rent and bills), but it is nice to have a little extra. I do it more for the discount...the only reason I deal with working at the mall in a store geared toward teenagers. Plus, I just have to keep my self insanely busy all the time so I feel I have the right to complain about something lol.

I must admit, I am quite excited for school to start, to move into my new apartment, have my old job back with the best coworkers/managers ever, and to be with my friends again...I can't wait

i'll probably just start with 12hours per week (friday nights only).

My friend worked Friday nights our P1 year, and she loved it. I liked working Saturdays. It gave me a chance to rest on Friday and have a free day on Sunday before school started.
Side note, I was commuting every day from another city, average commute of 1.5hrs each way so there was no way I could work M-Thurs. Also, I had to wake up at 4:30am every day, Yikes!! Thankfully, I've since moved. Now it's an easy 2 minute commute 😀.

i m weekend pharmacy technician .. and i think i m going to continue working. saturdays and sundays 16hours/week

I will continue to work. I'll do every other weekend 8 hours a day for a total of 8 hours/week.

I am planning to keep my job at the front desk of a hospital. Ill only work on saturday for 12hrs. I can study while I am at work because its usually really dead on the weekends.

This is what I am planning on doing also. I think working every other weekend will be fine and there will still be enough time to study for classes and exams (I hope!)

I didn't work during pre-pharmacy or the first year of pharmacy school. I wanted to focus on school work. Although this gave me time to study, I regret not working and getting pharmacy experience sometimes. Many of my classmates have worked (at least once or twice a week) while in school and still did fine in classes and on exams.

I will continue working retail. ~ 16/week 🙂

My last day at my fulltime job will be August 4th. Once I figure out how much I can handle during school I'm going to get an intern job for 10-25 hours a week.

in 2110, i will be dead for sure so i wouldn't be working

Give it a rest. It is obvious that everyone that has responded thus far apparently understood it as a minor/insignificant typographical error. The OP obviously meant 2010.🙄

Thanks everyone for the interesting responses thus far. Let's keep them coming. Also that's for ur last response princess.

:luck:

Hi everybody. I will be a first year student this year at NEOUCOP. My last day at my job is August 16,2007 and school starts Aug 27. Iam not planning on working, but if i believe I can keep my grades up (my goal is graduate with honors) and if my shedule permits I will try to get a job working maybe 8-10 hours a week to gain experience...since i have none!

just remember that whatever u decide to do is possible. i work 24 hours a week at a hospital Friday and Saturday night
(12hours/day) or sometimes Friodays 3-11 and saturdays 7a-7p but all 4 a total of 20-24hours a week. and i intend to maintain that.

Wow, way to go 👍! And you're working this much while going to pharmacy school full time too? How do you find time to study?

I'm currently working just for the summer and I haven't been told if I will get a part-time job during the school year or not. I hope to work every other weekend while I'm in my second year. And maybe every weekend my third year. I have to see if I can handle balancing school and work first.

its tough but i have being doing it so far without any problems

I'll continue working 15-20 hours at a pharmacy and teaching general chemistry labs 6 hrs/wk. I did it last spring and it wasn't too much. Plus I'm too stubborn to get a roommate to help pay my mortgage.

I'm planning to work 12-16 hours/week. I'm trying to avoid taking additional loans (if i can help it).

haha little errors can have a big effect

Posting on the internet and making a typo is not the equivalent of making a significant drug error.

Also, I admit I don't know much about morphine but 2110 mg and 2010 mg would probably both kill a child!

I don't want to work not cause i am lazy🙂 I am forced to work.😱

im not gonna do it...i wanna have a smooth transition into P😎. HEY if u can y not gooo 4 it 😍

Just suck it up and work some. It's good practice.

I decided to test the waters for the first 5 weeks of school before deciding about work, but now that we're half way through block exams I feel I can sacrifice my Saturdays (8-12hrs), so I started looking around. While grocery shopping at Safeway yesterday I checked w/ their pharmacy and they're specifically looking for student pharrmacists on the weekend. Hopefully it'll work out.
