Do you guys ever use your silver tongues to charm an otherwise hostile person at work?

Do you Rizz Up a Grumpy RN to turn the encounter around?
Charm the Chaplain?

I do it all the time, and it works 60% of the time, every time.

Think about it, you have some stressed out torta named Yessica in scrubs who is mad at her job and all the sudden she has someone complimenting her work, telling her they really appreciate her efforts in a low growl?

It's magic baby

When I was an intern, I once had a nurse snap at me. Unfortunately, it was witnessed by some colleagues, and it became a whole thing. there was a meeting between the DON and DOP and the nurse and I were present. The nurse was told to apologize to me and lectured about professionalism. I said that I thought the only reason that she snapped at me was because she was anxious to take care of her patient (she was waiting on a med of course) and that if I was a patient in the hospital, I would want her to be my nurse. We were basically best friends after that.

Not exactly flirting, but probably my best use of a silver tongue.

Something I do in retail is anytime I notice a woman in line who looks grumpy or upset or like we might have a negative encounter, I preemptively complement something about her. I would say that practically always works. Again, not exactly flirting, but it is flattery adjacent.

Any female, aged 18 and older: "Hey 297.1, can I ask your opinion about something?"

297.1: "Sure. Your hair looks fantastic!"

Never fails to deliver.

You attract more flies with honey than vinegar. I do the same thing you do in my own way and it’s great.

I truly learned how to do it during rotations with the floor nurses when I needed to hit my consult numbers. I basically did 4 rotations within the same health system. My preceptors there wanted me to do discharge consults for the meds. Once I played my cards right they’d direct me towards the nice easy patients and I’d save them a ton of work. The nurses figured out I also bumped their ratings up so they loved me even more lol

You sound like a predator in disguise

You sound like a predator in disguise

I can totally see an angle where this behavior is predatory if done wrong.

My angle on it is its to your advantage to be nice to people. I have an “I scratch your back you scratch mine approach”. Nothing wrong with making an overworked underpaid nurse feel better.

We all know the creepy customers in retail vs the genuinely sweet ones we want to go the extra mile for.

That's probably what I'd think if i was a 4'16" person of Reddit too.

I'm talking about complimenting people's work, smiling at them, and being pleasant and bubbly generally.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Okay, I don't know if you guys are stuck in the 1950's? In this modern age, with the Me2 movement, and an overactive HR, you can't really say a thing. Silver Fox, until you are dragged in front of HR. I try not to say a single thing to any female. Just the facts, Ma'm.

What about the other way around? My choice group is male MDs (especially in the 50s-60s range, but any age really). I don't know, it works for me.

Though to be fair, I generally try to get along and play nice with all of my colleagues, male or female. But a little light flirtation or witty banter helps to smooth over many a work situation.

I genuinely feel sorry for the romantic partners or spouses of people who think that flirting must be an unwanted, reportable event.
