How important, if at all, is class rank in undergrad when applying to medical school? Is it only a big deal if you go to a top school for undergrad?

Well, it should be your last worry.

You have to be in the top 5% of your class or you won't get in. So if you are not, then you may want to consider another career. I just thought I let you know so you won't disappointed.

josejalapeno

Are you suggesting that the 5% rule applies to all medical schools?

That rule may have some truth for your school. However, for other schools the rule is TOTAL BULL**** ..... like YOUR POST.

Thanks for the replies everyone except Jalapeno.

hey UGBoI: All of the people in this room you are the only one that figured that I am just screwing around. Obviously I just made that up. You'll make a great doc man. Good luck to you! Anyonw with a bit of common sense would know that it's not true.

Have to go with Jose here. Don't people realize that when the majority of people apply to med school they don't know their class rank for undergrad? They (and I) haven't even graduated yet, so they are not yet assigned a class rank.

Don't take posts so seriously, it makes life less stressful.

Jamie

It is funny how Jose chimes in with the truth when someone calls his bluff. Although I am not sure most of his posts merit responses, I am glad to see that no one is backing down from him.

It isn't asked for on the med school applications. Probably because a lot of schools don't even keep that information - I can imagine if you went to an undegrad school with 20,000+ students like I did - that would be the worst job in student records - ranking the 5,000+ who are graduating every year!
