I apologize as I know this has probably been covered before.

From looking around at a lot of school websites, many did not say if there was a limit on how long ago you took the pre-reqs. I only found one school where explicitly said it required you to have taken the classes in the last 7 years.

I will be taking BCPM for the first time, but as a non-trad when I apply, my English classes will have been 8 years ago. Do most med schools follow a seven year rule?

I'll take them again anyway just in case, but I'm just curious if I need to fit my second English in the Spring before I apply, or if I just need to take it before starting med school.

Thanks.

I would always advise to call in order to get a definitive answer.

This one could depend on the school.

Call up the medical schools that you're interested in and ask them about it. Some schools don't care how long ago you took them. Others have a limit (5-10 year) expiration period.

Honestly I don't think programs treat the English and math requirements quite the same as the science prereqs. I know when I was applying, I was advised to make sure all the science courses were relatively current, but nobody cared how old the English was. Most schools don't have an explicit "expiration date" on courses. Someone did a survey of schools a while back, and I think something like three schools had explicit requirements, while others simply wanted "recent" science coursework. Many schools request and many advisors will advise that you have the science courses in the last 5, 7, or 10 years.

When I was applying I couldn't find a single "written-in-stone" rule about pre-req expiration dates. I graduated from undergrad in 2000, so ALL of my coursework was completed in the late 90's (i.e. 8-10 years earlier). I applied to about 10 MD and 10 DO schools. Not one of them had a problem with any coursework being old. I had a master's degree from 2004, which showed that I hadn't dropped academia altogether, but all of the required courses (english, chem, ochem, physics, bio, etc) were done way back in undergrad.

Interesting. I guess the best course of action would be to just call each of the schools I apply to. Since it's just English, I doubt they'll care too much, but we'll see
