If I take a class in, say, the anthropology department, but it's also crosslisted in the English department, does that count towards the English requirement? Like if I take ANTH 1 and that's what it shows on the transcript but it's also under ENGL 4 in the English department.

Any class with a strong writing component -found in English, but also philosophy, and often in the social sciences/humanities- generally does the trick. It being in the English department does not matter.

You might have trouble at some schools with meeting the prerequisite by not taking ENC 101 and 102
