Hello all.

This is a question for PsyD students at Argosy Atlanta. I'm just curious about class schedules and times, and how many days a week you are actually in class. When I called to ask the school a few questions, they said PsyD students are in class Monday-Friday 9 to 5, and that professors make up their own class times. Is this true? Is it possible to have an outside job, as I may need to supplement my income, at least the first year?

I know that this doesn't include practicums and work spent outside of class and everything else this degree involves. Thanks in advance!

I didn't go there, but I don't understand why your asking when you've obviously been given the answer?

Because some of his other answers have led me to believe he doesn't know what he is talking about. I also don't understand how ten credit hours is all day, Monday-Friday. I have two master's degrees and know a little bit about credit hours.

I agree. There is no way the representative meant you are in class 40 hours per week, but it seems like that is what they said.

Why are you taking classes there anyways? To get into a Ph.D. program? Save your money and just get an RA position for a year. If your interest is purely knowledge-seeking, order some books of amazon and actually read the whole thing, not just the 4 chapters most classes will assign.

What he is telling you is that they have daytime classes (held between the hours of 9-5, Monday through Friday), with no regularity to them from semester to semester. I don't go there, but I know the drill. Prepare to have pockets of time that you can't possibly fill with anything other than an uber-flexible part-time position that constantly change every few months.

Why would someone take classes in a PsyD program to get into a PhD program? I don't know how you got that 😕. Sounds like the OP is investigating the PsyD program.

That would be my guess as well. Basically, it sounds like the the person you spoke with was saying that classes can theoretically fall anywhere between the hours of 9a and 5p, but beyond that, it's entirely up to each professor, and will likely (as Psychadelic mentioned) change from term to term. Thus, your schedule--at best--would only be set for one semester at a time. Tough to find additional outside work during normal business hours that way, although you could always look for positions starting after 5p.
