I am in a bit of a pickle here. We just began the winter semester and I am a junior and I was registered to take Microbiology but now because I will be studying for the DAT this semester so I want to drop the class. Is that a good decision or is the class really helpful in studying for the DAT?

The school will not allow me to take biochemistry due to prerequisites. What courses would you recommend me to take? The options I have are cell biology, anatomy and physiology..the point is I want to keep my schedule as less hectic as possible. I am already taking 3 other classes so would what give me the most time to study for DAT but at the time prepare me better for it, if at all.

Thank You

I would probably trade in cell bio for microbio, just because it covers such a wide variety of topics and is a good foundation to upper biology in general. There's some A and P on the DAT, but not a whole lot. I know you want to get the DAT over with this semester, you may want to consider taking the DAT during the summer. Just because you really want to focus on your gpa while you're in school and dividing your efforts with school and DAT is a little more difficult. It definitely can be done, but honestly taking the DAT in June or July (early-ish) in terms of making sure your application is complete by August is probably a better option because you can concentrate on it 100%. And believe me, you do not want to be dissatisfied with your score and be in the predicament of having to decide to retake it. This is all assuming you're applying this upcoming summer. Good luck!

I did not take any upper level biology classes, but I did take Cell Biology and did fairly well in my Bio section. The concepts I learned in Cell Bio gave me an edge in studying. I agree that studying for the DAT will be difficult while concentrating on your classes, but not impossible. I'm not a person who can focus on two important tasks so I decided to study in the winter break, away from distraction and school, but everyone is different. You can check out my breakdown if you want more info in studying. Good luck!

I felt that there were a bit of A&P, cell bio, genetics, not so much microbio.

Yes I actually intend on applying in the summer but I want to apply as early as possible. So do you think that if I take my DAT by June or July that I would be able to get my apps done by august and submitted? Is that realistically possible?
