Cowsgomoo (i just heart your user name!) and others who have recently taken the DAT! So I just finished reading the Classification chapter in the big Kaplan book. There are sooo many Kingdoms and Divisions w/ protists and those other complicated names of bacteria and fungi -- do we really have to know all of them? And, is there a lot of ecology or evolution or like, super specific classification questions on the DAT? B/c I am not sure how much time I should spend on studying or memorizing all those little details, etc. Ok, thanks a lot in advance!

The only type of question I've come across on practice tests are broad classification. Havn't seen any specific species mentioned.

Hell yeah everybody loves the COW!!!
Now to business. I would get to know those kingdoms, phylum’s, divisions and specific examples of each. I had a question on it. It was like which one of these belong to prokarya or something like that and they put in blue green algae to trick you into thinking that it is a protist that is eukaryotic. So you have to know these subtleties for some of the questions. It really is not that much more information and if it can get you an easy point why not learn it.
Hope this helps.

Oh, they can get specific........
its about luck.

I've taken the DAT twice and both times, I didn't nead to know anything more than the information on invertebrates and the animalia kingdom with all its phylums (Chordata, arthropoda, annelida, protista etc). There was nothing on ecology. Maybe two questions on genetics. One question on evolution (What is convergent evolution?) Answer is that it's the same as analagous. Which is different origin but similar function. Again, don't worry about hardly anything related to the plant kingdom, or fungi, or monera. But with monera, just know all the trendy characteristics of prokaryotes and you'll be find. Note: prokaryotes have ribosomes. My second score was a 20. Anything else, let me know
