Hi:

Let's say I have this indicator that is clear when deprotonated.

Why does this mean that the absorbance by the deprotonated form is beyond the visible range?

when things have color that you can see, it absorbs in the visible range. most likely you are talking about some clear organic compound which absorbs UV, which is beyond the visible range.
