has anyone out there attended the podiatry school in cleavland, OH? If so how was the education there? How did the professors treat their students. And how was life off campus?

OCPM is a sham and I wouldn't send my worse enemy there! The teachers and administration were horrible. If you want to learn podiatric medicine, go to the philly, miami, chicago, or iowa schools. I think the other schools are depriving there students of a quality education and as you can see with many of the podiatry haters, they went to schools like OCPM , NY, and CCPM.

hey prodpod...good to have you here...
i am a first year at nycpm... not that it really matters now, but why do you think so many of the schools are shams...Ill def admit that the administration in ny is shady to say the least....but alot of the proffessors and dpms on staff do have some good credentials(sp?). I am the first to admit that ny has alot of stupid podiatrists and that some of them are affiliated with the school but they dont seem to be the norm...most of my proffessors for basic sciences are on staff at mt sinai med school so i mean they should be fairly reputable.... however, i realize that there is more to being a good proffesor than your affiliations but they do seem concerned with their students nonetheless... also the clinic at nycpm seems to be pretty buys and seems like the kind of place where you would see alot of unusual pathology...
just curious as to your insight...again good to have you here
by the way...
how far along are you in terms of your education and how happy are you with your current situation?

Hey jconway,
just to give you a little background, I am a 2nd year student down at barry, but I actually started off at
OCPM and let me tell you it was the biggest mistakes of my life. To be honest it supported all of the negativity that some of these know-it-all's blast loudly on this forum. In the present climate of podiatry ,which is definetly no bed of roses, schools that are not merged or bought by universities seem to be the real trouble makers in this field b/c they don't have the university being somewhat of a watch-dog . I mean, you have to consider that in the end, you are a podiatrist from wherever you earn your degree. The real issue would come about in residency selections b/c you might have directors that might be partial to a particular school.
NY has to my knowledge, residency affiliations that are limited to themselves which is definetly cool if you want to go to that program but NY is not involved in CASPR, so there are also
residencies that won't take you. Just make sure you do some research into where you want to eventually go so that you will not be pigeon holed. Also, try to separate fact from fiction in these forums b/c like "Toejam" stated in a previous post, he felt inferior to the MD b/c he clipped nails in some commuinty situation. Well in all honesty, the name podiatry says it all, you WILL clip nails primarily. No field of interactive medicine is pretty. Dermatologists & FM's deal with some of the nastiest infections all over the body, but wow their an MD so it's ultimately not as grotesque! Gimmie a break! It's all nasty! By the way Toejam, I am expecting you to write me about how I am brain-washed b/c I am a student & etc... so please save your breath b/c I have no interest in writing to you. Your angry about some of your life's choices and sincerly hope that you and the rest of the life-long-learning ex pods find the happiness and acceptance you have so sought after. Myself, I can't wait to smell the fungus for 15minutes a piece and make a couple hundred while doing it. When you have those foot problems and go to the orthopod that is more than excited to cut off, rather then fix your foot ailment, we will see how valuble my degree is DOC! Hope this answers some things and glad to be on board! Thanks!
