Hello friends,

I'm starting med school next academic year. AZCOM let me pick where I want to rotate. I was deciding between LA and some regions in arizona. I live near LA.

I called up my med student friend. He told me that the most important thing I will be looking for is just making connections, which can make residency placement easier. He said that this, in addition to audition rotations, can help more than only audition rotations.

(If I understood correctly)

My question is:
Is there anything else I ought to look for besides connections?

I don't really get along with my family so i'm not concerned with being around here for that reason. The only reason I might have for staying here is I have childhood friends - these guys i'm going to miss more than my family :<

In addition to forming connections, maintaining them, and rotating there, I will be looking for places with good clinical research programs in place. I am interested in clinical research and academia so this will naturally be a concern of mine.

Go wherever you think you would enjoy the most, whether it's by family or trying a new place or whatever you value. If making connections is sufficient to make you happy, then do that. The amount of time/distance/investment you make into a program is much larger than the benefits of doing such as often times these get overplayed.

thanks for the feedback. i guess it's not a very big thing to worry about?
