HI everyone,
I know that is totally last minute. but could someone give me there input on cleveland clinic and mayo. I am struggling on which one to rank 1 and 2. I liked both of them. I am from cleveland so part of me wants to stay in Ohio but on the other hand Mayo is awesome and has a great reputation. I have switched my rank list like 8 times already going back and forth. I think I will be able to get a good fellowship from the the Cleveland Clinic but my advisors say it is not very resident friendly. Has anyone heard differently. Also anyone know anything about University Hospitals-Case Western and how they would rank that compared to Cleveland Clinic. Any input would be appreciated. I am so confused right now🙂
Thanks

I would pick mayo hands down. CC may arguably give you a slight benefit to matching in-house to a great fellowship if you are positive you want to do cards. Otherwise, would be hard-pressed to say CC offers better training than mayo in GI, critical care, nephrology, etc. So mayo hands down.

Mayo is definitely a stronger program of the 3 and the margin is somewhat big at the level of residency. With regards to Case vs CCF, I've been advised time and again that for residency and education Case>CCF but CCF is quite prominent for fellowships. So essentially Mayo>>>Case>CCF.

For whatever reason(s) Case seems to lag in terms of their IM residency (but not fellowships...cards is particularly well reputed). If you really like Ohio than have to consider where you'll be happiest. Look at the match lists of Cleveland Clinic vs. Case to see which one is more well thought of...for some reason CC has had a reputation of being more run by the attendings and fellows and less by the residents...also too much subspecialist domination could be a bad thing for the residents potentially...but would think Mayo would be prone to that as well.

Clinically, Mayo is superior. If you want more of the city feel, go for CC. I felt like at CC, residents were just being the bitch of the fellows and didn't really do too well for giving their own residents fellowship.
