Today at work, I had this client come in with a stray kitten who got hit by a car. She was an inactive client meaning that she hadn't been in in a long time. I'm preparing a new chart and I ask her if the information is still correct. She says it is. I took the kitten straight to the back for the Dr. and the tech to look at. They decide to leave and wait for the Dr. to call them with news on the kitten. Well, the Dr. called the number that they left and it turned out to be a bogus number. He does a little more research and finds out that this client has been hard to locate and has ripped us off in the past. I felt horrible for being duped like that. Anyone else have experience with this?

It's definitely not an unusual occurrence in the business. You cannot be expected to know every single client that has ever been to the office, nor can you scrutinize whether or not a person is telling the truth. Do not worry about it. Veterinary medicine is dealing with clients both honest and dishonest.

I'm just glad that we were able to treat the kitten and that he/she is ok. We should be able to place it in one of our cat rescue groups and find him a good home where he will be loved and well taken care of.
