Can we post clinical materials that were not really cover in school here. DI questions and responses etc... what you guys think?

I was never taught this : - /

Thermometer Route
General Instructions (may vary depending on thermometer brand)
• Lubricate the tip of the thermometer with petroleum jelly.
• Lay child face down across lap or on side in fetal position on flat surface.
• Insert the thermometer no more than one inch into the rectum.
• Hold thermometer in place until it beeps and temperature is displayed.

• considered the standard for temperature measurement.
• Always recommend rectal route for infants <3 months of age if feasible.
• Invasive, potential risk of rectal injury.
• The child has fever if rectal temperature >100.4°F (38.0°C).6

costs: $2.99-$17.99

Wow, when I started reading clinical stuff not covered in school I really wasn't expecting how to take a rectal temperature to be the first thing covered in the thread. 😀

Is it really necessary to quote pharmacists letter here?

Thanks. I just saw this and thought the same thing.

BTW once you are out of pharmacy school, what are the best sources to look at the method of action and mechanisms for enzymes? Obviously while in school they are textbooks.

Professional databases? I'm interested in enzyme method of action for pseudophedrine compared to ephedrine since they are enantiomers of each other but they can still sometimes work on the same enzyme (from what I hear.)

Nothing more than being bored, it makes organic chemistry interesting to me.

I agree, I would rather see the OP present their own opinions on the topic to get a conversation a brewing, rather than copy & paste Pharm Letter...

Original thought is good!

stop whining and start learning. Not everybody has access to drug resources.

I spend plenty of time learning these days, thank you. I understand not everyone has access to drug resources, I just don't understand the point of copying and pasting from them. It would be more interesting if you actually posted your opinion and tried to start a discussion. At the very least, you should reference the source of the things you copy and paste.

ETA: Medscape (the terbutaline source) is free, so everyone can have access if they want. I think everyone should register, it can be a useful site for up to date medication news.

I noticed how some of the users were unprofessional and rude specially the pre-pharmacy and pharmacy students here on SDN. So I decided to avoid giving a lot of opinions and don't argue with them. That's why the info posts only!

Any other users out there shutter every time they see this word? I feel like the administration at my school uses that word to mean every action/attribute/alliteration they don't want us to do. It makes me want to gag. Who feels the same? Or inversly feel like it is used just right or isn't used enough (anyone)?

they are not copy righted 😉 they produced it to be shared with the public.

Don't be cute. They are not public domain. Both Pharmacist's letter and Medscape are subscription services. Besides, you didn't cite your sources for anything you posted.

This thread needs to be compliant with SDN policies.

Trust me it's ok if you give it to patients and don't make money off of it... Do you constantly cite yourself when you talk to your friends when not publishing! That would be a long and awkward conversation 🙂

discussions are by definition informal and does not need
to be formalized by citing references/etc. unless in cases
where ppl are clueless whether websites such as this is
a trustworthy source for info, then its out of the question
that these ppl are clueless and yes u have to follow proper
APA guidelines in citing works not produced by u.

FYI APA was used in my undergrad english class! In my pharmacy school we have our own medical guidelines we follow! As far as I know it's better to use APA for social sciences...

True, discussions don't need to be cited. I don't think copying and pasting counts as discussion though.

i dont think theres any referencing standard thats proven to be better
than another. APA was just an example i use bc in a certain ethics class
where med students along with allied health come together, that is the
style we use. and as expected even though they specifically specified
APA style, i didnt follow along bc i knew as long i cite it properly they
wont be clueless as to where i found the info. its a 10 pg essay but i
knew full well they wont even look at the reference page other than
counting how many i had.

by the way, is your school medical guideline from some national standard?
bc if theres one im sure my teaching hospital would not recommend APA.

Isn't there an AMA standard?
