How do y’all set up your clinic schedule?

Ex.
How many new patients a day?
How many follow ups per day?
How long per NP vs follow up?
What are your clinic hours?

I’m in my first three years out and seeing 18-21 patients a day and feel like I’m getting burned out. I see 99% lung and GI onc.

My colleagues use APPs more but I really try not to unless I have to and we don’t have paid anything for them seeing our patients.

Trying to get feedback on how to make this more manageable.

3-4. If I already have 3 on the schedule, my schedulers check with me before adding more.
How many follow ups per day?
The rest of the slots in the day. 12-20 depending.
How long per NP vs follow up?
FU: 20 min
New Onc: 60 min
New Heme: 40 min
Transfer of care: 40 min

8:30-5

What's burning you out? The numbers? The number of new patients a day? The level of complexity? Non-clinical needs?

This all depends on what you're struggling with. The simplest thing is to see fewer patients. That will mean less money of course. Whether you do that by just seeing fewer people or using the APP more is up to you. Maybe you need more non-clinical support by your nurse/MA. The range of answers is too broad to be useful without knowing what the "problem" is.

How many days per week are you in clinic?

IMO average should be around 4 or 4.5 but old-school sweatshops will have you doing 5 full days and that sounds like burnout city to me.

I'm in clinic 4.5d/w, generally around 8-5. 3-4 news like @gutonc. 15 or 30m follow-up slots, 60m new. I decide who gets a 30m f/u usually someone who I'm waiting on biopsy or restaging / anticipate a longer conversation. I have like 2-3 patients in my practice that get 45m slots because they are masters of keeping me stuck in circular conversations.

I have what I would consider stellar support by nursing/MAs answering phone calls etc. and patients do not have a method to message me directly.
