A nine year old girl visits her pediatrician due to recurrent episodes of hemolytic anemia. She visited the emergency room on three separate occasions due to shortness of breath that occurred during viral infections. In each case, she received a blood transfusion which alleviated the symptoms and was released from the hospital. Upon examination, the girl appeared healthy but displayed slight deficits in language and motor function. The following test results were obtained: Hemoglobin 12.4 g/dL; Erythropoietin 19U/l; Reticulocytes 270 (109/L); Osmotic fragility is within the normal range, and Spectrin/band 3 is 0.95. Autohemolysis is in the presence of glucose 1.2%. The patient shows no signs of jaundice or splenomegaly. Any help would be amazing.
