Would X tech be a good clinical experience for medical school? I would be working with A at B if I would be offered the position.

Hell yea man! You see patients which makes it clinical. Also, it’s a unique experience which seems like a really cool job.

Even if it is an eye clinic and predominated by optometrists?? I guess it can be my clinical experience and I can shadow physicians to make up for this if I do end up working mainly with optometrists by chance? I know the name is ophthalmic but I am still concerned although it would be a super cool opportunity.

Would you know how time-consuming getting certified might be? The position states it would require certification after X amount of months. I am concerned since I have to focus on the MCAT this summer.
Getting certified as an ophthalmic tech is something that will require learning and study of some specific and fairly technical information. If you are interested and willing to do this it will not only be a good warmup for med school, but give you a skill you can use to work and earn money during your application year. You will also learn how to explain things to patients while performing their tests.

It is clinical. The people who walk in the door are "patients" when they are coming in for eye evaluations. Being able to communicate clearly with them, anticipate their needs (facial tissues after the eye drops are inserted!) and their questions are all good experiences. You also learn to work as part of a team of different medical professionals.

I'd say wait until after you've taken the MCAT if you think that the work/training would interfer with your MCAT prep. That should be top priority if you can afford it (and by that I mean if you can afford to go without employment for a period of time).
